@Poolboy isnt there a option to let the AI use allies for offensive wars but not the player? That would surely make for a challange.

This mod is made redundant because the AI will almost certainly not take into account that he has no offensive allies. I'm fairly sure they use their allies in their calculation. When you go to attack someone it shows you how many soldiers you have and it includes your allies soldiers even though they are irrelevant. It's a shame because it would be nice to have the extra challenge.

Depends entirely on the conversion and if it modifies calls to war, so I can't say. Sorry it took me a bit to reply - if you've found it worked or didn't with the total conversion you wanted to play it with in the meantime, let me know and I can potentially make a patch or a note on the description that it's compatible. ^^ If you haven't tried it, can always tell me which total conversion you wanted to use this mod with and I can have a quick look to see if they'd work together.

This mod is meant only to make alliances defensive, so the AI/player isn't obligated to join an ally's conquests. :) I rather not touch the "Join War" interaction with this mod, as I feel if the player or even the AI want to volunteer help in a war that should still be within their power, they just shouldn't be forced to.

@dek Ah! I thought you meant you tried changing the game rules around. Yeah, the 2x rule doesn't require a special relationship or a hook, it just changes the modifiers...though that's actually an interesting idea for another rule.

Thanks, it seems I misunterstood "Added 2x difficulty" rule. I thought it required hook or special relation plus it adds 2x difficulty, but it means just 2x difficulty with special relation and hook not being a requirement for this setting.

@dek I was pretty sure, but I double checked because I know for a fact my memory isn't infallible - but no, there should be no incompatibilities. They don't touch the same things, and I made sure to check I didn't leave any references to interactions they don't change (because they do modify stuff from the same file, but they're two separate interactions).
I can try to replicate the issue anyway. But yeah, my guess is it's some other mod overwriting Defensive Alliances.

Is it maybe possible that some mod features aren't compatible with No Marriage Alliances mod? Playing as count I can call to war ally count who's married to my daughter even though I don't have a hook nor special relation with him (selected these features), and I even have Added 2x difficulty option. I've disabled vassals mod, I'll look through othet mods as well. But just wondering.

@dbix11 Do you have any other mods that mess with warfare or alliances? It is very possible that it's this one, as I still haven't been able to find any files that control what the AI calculates before waging war... It's just since no one else has reported that weird of a behavior for the AI it may be good to check it's not some weird mod interaction.

Oh as of right now I don't remember but I'll play another game this evening and get that info for you.

But what I can say is that as soon as they declared war they simply sat in their territory. I get the impression they would have called their allies if they could, but since it was disabled they didn't know what to do...so they just sat at home.

I think the AI is still counting on their allies to aid in their war. Had a game just now where the AI declared war on me and failed miserably, but they had allies they couldnt call.

Updated! Took a little longer than I thought, but it's done! Mod now has added game rules to tweak stuff should you want to. :D But if you don't or you have an ongoing save - no worries, by default functionality is the same, you don't have to turn on game rules to make it work. Only difference you may notice is you can now use hooks on Calls to War.

Tomorrow I'll work on patches I mentioned before. :)

Currently the mod applies to both player and AI, but next update will make it an option to pick between Player-Only, AI-Only or both. ^^

I'm currently working on an update, decided it was better to get that done before making patches. It should be done soon, afterwards I'll make a patch.

After taking a brief look, seems More Interactive Vassals changes the same interaction this mod does, so one will disable the other's functionality. I'd advise not to use them together for now. Once I'm done updating, I'll work on a patch for that too. :)

Update and patches should be out today or next couple days, depending on what comes up and how testing goes. :p

If I may add, a hook, lover, friend and soulmate should be ready to help. And I really like the idea of kinsman helping in an offensive war like ragnarrson invasions.

@[Army of Two] AXIS I imagine it might not be impossible ...It would work in ths scope of a mod like "A Diplomatic Envoy". But as for this one it's definitely a bit beyond the scope of what I'm willing to make at the moment. ^^;

@Sam² Thank you! ^^ As for your question, well, the truth is...I'm not entirely sure. I don't know if AI's considerations for declaring war are hard coded or I just haven't looked in the right place, but I've tried to look exactly with that in mind and I haven't been able to find them. I'm hoping they only consider their own military strength, because they don't seem to take advantage of OP alliances as much as a player does.

Great Job! I was looking for something like this because is really necessary to balance the Game. Now my question is: The IA takes this into account before declaring an offensive War? Like... does it know they won´t be able to call their allies to that war?

ideally call to offensive wars should be a diplomatic play that both counts relations between the characters, cultures and even history. And then the distance, is it viable to help even if I want? Then ideally dont send all your strength to far off lands.
And THEN the persuasion starts with promises, money, deals etc.

Thats ideally to me at least, but not possible I would guess.

Anyways, defensive is a game changer, as now minor or medium sized realms have agreater chance at surviving because they might have powerful friends, and the big aggressors wont automatically bring other powerful friends along with them to invade.

@isopropyl Yes it does. No need for patches as they don't change the same files. :) Whenever you negotiate an alliance with my other mod, it'll just be defensive-only by default.
