What version of the game are you playing on Windows? Not sure why there would be an OS-specific difference for the mod (and if there is it would most likely be an issue in the base game)

update: my issue actually only shows up on mac. On Windows this mod works.

Running this mod as my only mod, it seems that whenever I pick crungle mode, it correctly loads me into the location of the random creature and gives me its body parts, but I have the abilities, inventory, and sprite of the regular character I chose before the game started.

Just tried it out (currently on game version 2.0.207.97) and as far as I can tell it seems to be working fine now. The devs fixed a worldgen bug that I suspect was causing Crungle Mode not to start correctly the last time I played; on the new version it seems to work perfectly fine.

So to the best of my knowledge Crungle Mode is working as-expected now. If you encounter any particular issues with the mod, let me know.

I did end up updating it for Spring Molting (forgot to post about it in the comments)... although it seems to have been broken again by a recent update. Currently freezes on world generation.

Will take a look into it, although the game is being especially unhelpful about whatever the issue is here.

Neat mod but I wish crungling would give you the correct reputations for that creature, like it's weird that as a random spider or robot or baboon or crocodile that you can just waltz into joppa or grit gate and be like "hey whats up guys"

It randomly started working again for some reason-- I don't know what changed, but I don't think it was ever the mod's fault. Probably some wonky business on my end. Regardless, thank you for the help!

Can you give me some more information? Crungle Mode should always give you the sprite corresponding to the creature you inhabit (e.g. if you inhabit a leech, you'll appear as a leech).

Note that depending on what creature you jump into, you may end up with a tile that looks identical to one of the possible character models. For instance, mysterious gunslingers (https://wiki.cavesofqud.com/wiki/Mysterious_gunslinger) share the same tile with the Gunslinger calling; Zealots of the Six Day Stilt (https://wiki.cavesofqud.com/wiki/Zealot_of_the_Six_Day_Stilt) share the same tile used by the Apostle calling.

So if you jumped into one of those creatures, you might look as though you're using a normal player character's sprite, but you're still inhabiting the body of the creature you've become.

I am using the mod and my sprite just looks like the normal qud character's sprite, like not a creature. Is there any way to make it so I am playing with the creature's actual sprite instead of just the normal player character's?

Thank you both for looking into it. I checked out the Mycologist mod and it looks like the crash is being triggered by some code added by that mod (not the author's fault; Crungle Mode does some funny stuff to the game boot process that the author of Mycologist couldn't have anticipated).

I've issued a hotfix that should make Crungle Mode and Mycologist compatible with one another. Let me know if you run into any other crashes.

Seconding Mycologist Subtype causing it to crash during "Generating Static Encounters". Not a major issue since they are both start mods but thought I'd mention it since it was already reported.

Dang youre right! I went back and tested it and choose your fighter definitely works, however I noticed if you have the "Mycolegist subtype" mod on it boots you to the main menu, otherwise I went through my mods and a ton of combinations and I wasn't able to recreate it, so either a different mod was fixed or somehow the weekly update fixed but either im all good on my end! :D

as the author of both this mod and Choose Your Fighter it'd be news to me if they conflicted with one another, heh :) as far as I can tell, when I play Crungle Mode! with CYF enabled, there aren't any issues on either the current weekly version of the game or on the beta. But it's plausible there could be some unique conditions under which they conflict with one another.

I had the same problem as @CrucibleOfHate I disabled the recent mod "Choose your fighter" and was able to get into the game without crashing after I did that

There’s an option in the settings menu that (if selected) will guarantee that you don’t spawn as an aquatic creature, like a prism perch

I'll look into it; I'd like to add some more sophisticated options to do things like e.g. filter what kinds of creatures you spawn as. Unfortunately it's difficult to do so in a way that doesn't massively complicate the mod.

That said, I can tune the probability of spawning as certain creatures up or down (a little); I've just made some changes so that you're a little bit less likely to spawn in as Svardym. If there are any other creature types that you feel like you're spawning in as all the time, let me know and I can also tweak their spawn probabilities a bit.

I probably won't add a mode where you can save at campfires (that would entail some complexities that would probably be better off as an entirely new mod). However, when I have the time I'm planning on adding a Roleplay variant which will automatically save whenever you arrive at a settlement.

@sightlessprodigy there's currently an issue where the reputation shown in the Factions screen doesn't reflect creatures' actual attitudes towards you, but yes, your reputation with other creatures will change to reflect the creature you awaken as

Would sound super cool I think to have a chance to start with a random number of tier appropriate items and if feeling spicy, maybe be proposed a Sifrah game on start for a chance to increase the tier of some or just have items at all
