i have 1 thing to notice.
were you put the Superior CPU extenders?
These are square's and not straight.
please explain because now i have to extend the nose with 1 blok.
beside that i love the ships you make!
As for the 3.9G planet, I'm not sure if things have changed. I've been off the game for a bit, however, I can say that according to the chart, the ship should be able to take off with only 10% cargo filled (in the case of copper). Any higher and it will ground you. Also be aware that any ships you have parked on the vessel will add to the weight the thrusters need to lift. Finally, the Orca's biggest thrust will come from its rear engines, (not the vertical thrusters). If you want to maximize takeoff thrust, aim straight up with your rear thrusters (or angle up at 45 degrees).
I am using it as a heavy armed miner
Had some trouble finding all 10 upgrade slots on each side of the core room. Did you intend for some of the LCD's to be removed up in the ceiling access to make room for quants etc.?
Also not sure whats up with the 4g, have some of the values been tweaked or something?
I took it down on a 3.9 g planet and had to take everything out of the ship including 99% of the fuel and it still wouldn't budge.
However two drive thrusters fit perfectly in between the two "nacells" on each side so i just keep those with me along with a spare gen.
Great compact ship.
Looking forward to trying out the bombardment bridge.
Your ship rotation GIF looks pretty much smooth. I usually place a passenger seat in the center of the ship and get myself seated. Then I switch to external camera mode, adjust the distance and height and slowly start rotating by using a game controller. That's all to it. ;)
Also: I love your presentation, especially the animated detail shot GIFs. That is something I may steal from you. :)
Keep up the great work!
How cool it'd be if the game had workshop vessels flying around, and available for sale at shipyards. Also categorical breakdowns (like carrier, combat CV, miner, etc...). I know the workshop is basically that, but it's so divorced from the 1st-person experience. Perhaps if there were a mod...
It is humbling when those you look up to appreciate your work.
@Ente: I've played with your Dart & Warp Shard. I didn't realize how prolific you were; that you also made all those other ships I'd seen such as the Charon, Harrow, and Starflare! Congrats on the Outer Venture! Thank you for sharing such inspiring work.
@CrazyZ: It bothers me just how good you are, lol! I've still more work to go before I reach your level. The speed with which you put out creations is mind-boggling. I'm aware I've yet to make a ship with planned color palette regions like your ships have. How do you manage such smooth rotations on your turntables?
I would love to see JRandal do a review on the ship. It'd also be nice if he got my name right. :)
It's "ay-tree-us," inspired by the concept of "a triple ace." That's why my logo features three simplified A's, with the second forming the negative space for the third.
Now that I'm caught up with other projects, I'll be addressing the concerns you mentioned about too many extensions on the Hauler, as well as optimizing its thrust & CPU. The lighting is broken now that lights don't pass through blocks, and I need to provide room for future upgrades, so a refit is definitely in order. Fingers crossed, I hope to have it done soon.
Thanks! I'm glad you like it, ExotikPsykotic. :)
To be honest, I kept feeling like I was creating some sort of skateboard married to a Tie-Fighter, but the design manifested itself somewhat organically from the intended desire: durability.
I was noticing a number of my ships kept dying the same way; you pop one system and the whole thing had a cascade explosion. That led me to this video by Spanj: Empyrion makes everything explode! . I'm not a fan of huge ships, but explosive damage insulation would almost require the vessel to get much bigger. This is a compromise; 2 generators per side, but those are insulated from other systems. Fuel tanks are isolated to the wings and those are separated into multiple sections. Then running it through survival and letting the AI destroy the vessel provided a lot of useful info on where to reinforce, and where to trim.
The result is a ship that's gone through many revisions. At one time...
- there was an interior hangar built into the midsection.
- the bridge was on the nose, on the bottom deck.
- ship was built on even blocks (instead of being centered on a a single block).
- there was a retractable hangar door over the landing pad as a form of SV "Armor"
In any case, I'm happy with the result. I exclusively play in Reforged Eden, but it does make me curious how these designs fair in Vanilla. Let me know how it goes? :)
Once again, thank you for your kind words. It means a lot to me.
