I always make my drinks with shards of glass. Really adds an iron-y taste.

Great room. Loved the cowbells reference.

This map is actually terrible, I lost the backet ball twice, the shaker is so glitch, you cannot get the second ananas and im too small to throw items in the shaker, terrible map :steambored:

This was really fun! I'm constantly blown away by how good games the top builders can put together in such a short amount of time!

The puzzles were interesting and fun, but it hurt my hands too much to do all the repetition to make things work (I play Escape Sim because my hands are bad and I can't do the repetition required in most games). I had to quit before I was done.

THe cats made me giggle.

Knocked it out the park with this one Franch!!! The puzzles were really diverse and each themed part of the room was so well done! it was colourful and beautiful (no idea how you got those spiral starcases to work, but ill have to assume it was some sort of dark magic XD)

had a bit of trouble getting the top cube in the slot but it wasnt that much of an issue, and i loved the funky animation it played whent he puzzle was done!

I really loved the basketball puzzle, its not often you see a skill based puzzle but it was really well implemented!

@IntrepidSon: Thanks for the feedback! "A montage of classic non-escape games" is essentially what I was going for, based on my interpretation of Versus mode and the contest theme. And right or wrong, it seems the judges liked my interpretation too lol.

I was trying to include activities that are relatively quick and fun, and fun to race with a reasonably tight distribution of duration for each section so that players don't get too far ahead or behind.

I'm not sure some of these are classic activities though... Certainly my puzzles draw a lot of inspiration from the 70s, but I'm pretty sure you've never seen or played most of these before. :D

I attempted to teach people how to throw items in Puzzle 3, so that you've had some practice before the finale. But, I like your creative approach and appreciate you sticking with it even if your opponent bailed.
IntrepidSon 6 Sep, 2023 @ 5:19pm
Fun, and I liked most of the rooms (I hate Simon ), but overall it didn't feel like an escape game and felt more of a montage of classic non-escape games. My versus opponent left the game in the third round for that reason. Ironically, the nerf ball following me from room to room helped me solve the last round. After spending way too much time trying to drop items into the blender, I was able to set the bottle of Rum on the blender rim and use the nerf ball to knock it in. But when that wouldn't work on any other ingredients I finally remembered inventory items can be T hrown.

No worries...I thought about using that song too! But ultimately I like how The Piña Colada song builds into the chorus and then explodes. And the fact that it is actually called "Escape" proved irresistible for an escape room.

I am a fool, can't believe it, was thinking of margaritaville. I'm too sober sometimes, mixing up the drinks. Thank you for the correction lol

Quick update: I determined there isn't enough contrast between the Unlit and Lit red floorplates when using the "Fast" community lighting option, so I made the lit floorplate extra pink. This may not solve the issues below but I suspect it is related. There really isn't anything in the logic that would allow it to show fewer than six colors in the sequence...either all six should show up, or none of them should show up (unless this is a roulette logic wheel issue and it isn't always choosing a target).

In general, I do not recommend using "Fast" community lighting for any community room. It usually looks awful and can even break the room, for puzzles that are dependent on light.
Franch  [author] 28 Aug, 2023 @ 3:47pm
@Brian Kuhn: Sorry about that! Thanks for letting me know. I've never seen it do this. It makes me wonder if the new roulette logic item is misfiring on certain machines. The only other thing I can think of is lighting...Are you using "Fast" community lighting settings? I will have to check if that might keep some of the colors from showing up.
Brian Kuhn 28 Aug, 2023 @ 3:31pm
The Simon Says puzzle is broken. Only 4 or 5 colors of each sequence light up. Please fix it!!!

We were excited to play this room since we loved your other rooms, but the Simon Says room got us stuck. For some reason, my BF got his completed, mine was stuck at just 5 colors. He even looked at mine to help me out, but it'll give me 3 colors then pause with no buttons lighting up then 2 colors so I only have 5. Too bad we couldn't finish this.
Franch  [author] 25 Aug, 2023 @ 3:58am
One other comment/suggestion on Simon Says :

I often struggle to remember the pattern, since it is random; for a while I was trying to write it down, but that gets hard when it speeds up. I came up with a new technique that seems to work well for me. It's like I split the pattern into two smaller sequences...either 2-4 or 3-3 or 4-2 depending on which seem most memorable.

For some reason it seems much easier to memorize two short sequences than one long sequence even though the total length is the same!
Franch  [author] 25 Aug, 2023 @ 3:57am
@Honeypebble: Thanks for the feedback! I've noticed with Simon Says, the floor pressure plates can be a little finnicky, especially if you are standing close to another plate. Sometimes a plate can actually light up but not register...you can tell when this happens if it lets you seemingly enter more than six colors in the pattern before giving you a result.

It seems to work better if you go a little slow and to make sure you only hit one color at a time. Some people do this by standing on the inside, but I prefer to stand on the outside where I can see everything. . When I do it this way, I've yet to see it break (though there could still be a bug).
Honeypebble 25 Aug, 2023 @ 12:44am
i loved this one a lot but had some issues with the simon says portion. It would fail me when i got the combo right and would light up or make a noise. , the first was easy but the others took me like 20 minutes

@Franch That's a cool trick! Makes me want to learn more about Sketchfab and Blender for the next contest
Franch  [author] 24 Aug, 2023 @ 12:32pm
@CinnaMon! Thanks so much! The Rubik's cube is a free custom model that I found on Sketchfab. I chose it specifically because it had that built in animation. It is also available in a static state.

For my room, I took it apart and exported separate models of every corner after rotating them to have the same alignment (so they could be slotted interchangeably. After you solve it, it swaps the static model for the animated version.

Ideally I would have started the animation in the solved state; if you look closely it starts scrambled and then solves. But all the tricks I know of how to reverse animations in Blender didn't quite work so I just left it.
CinnaMon 24 Aug, 2023 @ 12:26pm
After playing mostly all the maps, yours was my favorite How in the world did you get that rubik's cube to turn and get mixed up? It all around was a feel good vibe.

@Monkey_Chicka: Thanks! That song brings back special memories for me as well. I could have figured out a way to get rid of the Nerf ball after it is no longer needed but I thought some players might want to keep it as a souvenir...in some ways it eventually kind of takes on 'Weighted Companion Cube' vibes if you keep it around long enough. XD
Monkey_Chicka 23 Aug, 2023 @ 7:47pm
So it turns out the nerf ball from the basketball room will just follow me from room to room, lol. I finally just picked it up. Really cute, and I loved the songs you picked, especially the last. Its one of my favorites from when I was a kid in the 70s :)

@Spleen: Thanks for the update! It does sound like the issue you encountered is the same one that I fixed yesterday. Hopefully this is all sorted now. If not, I'll fix it again. :D
Spleen 22 Aug, 2023 @ 11:25pm
@Franch I was determining using the checklist as you suggest, everything else had no issues but the coconuts simply wouldn't tick off, some additional info: they were popping in and out well before I entered the waterline, the first two coconuts I put in seemed fine, the third was appearing and disappearing quite a bit and I had to be in a very specific location to pick it up without it vanishing, I suspect it wasn't one of the 3 correct ones. While struggling with it I found there were more than 3 and ended up throwing in 6 but it still wasn't marking off the list. Eventually I began throwing other assorted items in and it triggered the coconuts to be checked off (I think maybe the third correct coconut was sitting above the trigger box and throwing the other items jostled the contents enough for it to register)

I've just tried to replicate it on the newer version and despite performing the same actions I couldn't repeat the issue, I think you fixed it, great job.
Franch  [author] 22 Aug, 2023 @ 10:24pm
@Monkey_Chicka: Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean though...you don't need the Nerf ball after Hairball Hoopin'. You can do whatever you want with it...throw it at a cow, keep it in your pocket, etc. The only thing you need in More Cowbell! are cowbells.[/spoiler.]
Monkey_Chicka 22 Aug, 2023 @ 9:15pm
Really cute! But I am stuck I didn't know what to do with the nerf ball in the cowbell room so I threw it at a cow and now the ball is stuck behind a cow and I can't reach it. So, I will have to start over. :( Great room concept though. And I love 70s music!
Franch  [author] 22 Aug, 2023 @ 8:52am
Quick update: I fixed the issue below, or at least a separate issue that I discovered which may in theory be the same issue you found. Fingers crossed!
Franch  [author] 21 Aug, 2023 @ 11:54pm
Just curious, how are you determining they didn't register? Would the green checkmark not show up? The one thing I can think of that might have happened is the coconuts are random...three positions for each of the three coconuts, and nine total objects. If you collect any from the trees and then go underwater, this disables any items that were in the blender to try to keep them happy. Then when you return to land, they show up again. However the current logic causes the additional two random coconuts that weren't selected to fall, and throwing those in the blender will have no effect since it thinks they are identical to the first coconut and don't count, because of the single-use triggers for sets of coconuts. I'll take a closer look at this because I can see how this would be confusing and break it. Thanks again! Really glad you enjoyed the rest.
Franch  [author] 21 Aug, 2023 @ 11:54pm
@Spleen: Thanks for the feedback! Sorry to hear you had an issue with the coconuts . I just double checked the logic and attempted to reproduce this issue, but I was not able to and can't figure out what might have caused it. The first time each item is thrown in the blender it registers and then the trigger is disabled to avoid accidentally triggering it again. Even if items fall out later (this can happen because the physics are pretty wild when you start moving things around), that wouldn't keep you from solving it.
Spleen 21 Aug, 2023 @ 11:09pm
Very impressive room, played in versus, both me and the other player found in the last puzzle that no amount of putting coconuts in the blender would actually register on our recipe, I think I had 6 in it by the end . Really unfortunate when the rest of the room is so well polished, I also noticed that the items in question were popping in and out in unexpected ways as I moved around, maybe it's connected?
