funny, but the hints destroy the self thinking :(

I'm sorry, but I don't get it. What is special about these chambers? Like,y they are well designed, I enjoyed them, but what's the "unique testing element"?
lfairban 21 Nov, 2016 @ 6:50am
I always did like 707.
Petutski 1 Sep, 2015 @ 6:07pm
Nice fun logical map! Thanks!

How to pass the 3rd chamber?
wildgoosespeeder 9 Feb, 2015 @ 7:01pm
99% of the workshop is junk! So many junk maps reach the front page. You are part of the 1% (400,000+*.01=4000 maps).
UMNSE  [author] 9 Feb, 2015 @ 6:58pm
I needed players to walk through with objects and not be able to shoot.

It's literally just a visual indicator for those cheap "no, you can't portal here from this spot" moments. I compared the other fields all to this one . . . this one fit the bill. I might revisit this in the future, but as for right now, it is what it is, mainly because I have other things to do.

But anyways . . . I tried it. Threw stuff at the wall and saw what stuck.

I'm happy that there's actually still people like you on the workshop that aren't brainwashed into thinking everything is great. There's some stuff that's highly rated on here that really shouldn't be, my stuff included.
wildgoosespeeder 9 Feb, 2015 @ 6:46pm
You also have to apply that to the custom fizzlers I pointed you towards as well as the default fizzler that everyone knows how it behaves. What makes your fizzler a better choice than those fizzler options?
UMNSE  [author] 9 Feb, 2015 @ 6:42pm
That's actually the philosophy that led me to make the field in the first place- a map I'm working on [that's suspended due to other projects] would have been broken with a fizzler, but the field solves that and I just needed a way to introduce players to the element prior to them playing the map - hence this map.
wildgoosespeeder 9 Feb, 2015 @ 6:33pm
The best advice I can give you to use your custom fizzler most effectively is to think to yourself, " What configuration would a fizzler make the test truly impossible to complete but my new fizzler would allow test subjects to complete that test? " I think that is the best mentality I can describe that went into "The Inquisition" by srs bsnss:

Those are very good points. While it is possible to play around and see for yourself in room one what the field does, I added rooms two and three for the simpler people to see that cubes are unaffected by it and that the fields can be turned off and on again.

This map was basically made in two days to get the idea "out there" and to gather feedback on what works and what doesn't [thanks for the feedback, by the way - it really helps]

It's sole existence resulted from the need to make a surface "un-portalable" from certain locations in a map without hindering movement or seeming cheap - people hate not being able to place portals on surfaces usually portalable. That said, I'm considering developing some more "Advanced" usage of the element - if time allows.

Thanks again!
wildgoosespeeder 9 Feb, 2015 @ 4:47pm
The idea is good but its usage is not used properly. Room one is a decent way to experiment with the field to see what it allows and doesn't allow compared to the standard fizzler. The only thing I was able to find is that:

1. It blocks the portal "beams" from going through them, just like a regular fizzler.
2. It doesn't reset the player's portal gun when you pass though it.
3. It allows cubes through it.
4. It allows test subjects through it.

Other fizzlers created by Fourth Reaper and Lpfreaky90:
http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=1597
http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=1727

Now the stuff that didn't make sense to use the blue fizzler:
Room 2 didn't really demonstrate it's use.
Room 3 a regular fizzler would have worked just as well.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to ask for tutorials you don't need.

This is your new bible. Pray to it at night. Eat sushi in front of it. Whatever. If you do the tutorials correctly, you will achieve mapper level 1 and be permitted to love Shrek.

Come on you guys... It's a completely unnecessary field that can be replaced with another field in basically any situation imaginable, AND it's a ripoff of both the Matter Inquisition Field and the Area Division Field both at once. Let it go.
Petutski 23 Sep, 2014 @ 6:20pm
Nicely done. Lots of fun!

Nice work, and great looking map. I liked the "New Energy Destabilization Field". I have played maps with them before but they have always been Green. Looks good and worked just fine. Thanks... Thumbs Up..
updownbanana 6 Sep, 2014 @ 7:40am
Nice chamber. Why is it called Chell's Field Day, tho?
The Sojourner 6 Sep, 2014 @ 4:10am
You created a map much like I would've created one :p2cube: This is outstanding! The art design kinda reminds me of my map Coolant.
Talisac 4 Sep, 2014 @ 6:10am
Well, why not ^^ Nice tutorial
cellocat007 2 Sep, 2014 @ 5:01pm

@quaternary: Finally someone who understands! Blimey, took us 6 pages of comments and finally someone of the Mapping kind shows up! Well done, I say, well done! Uhh . . . heh heh. . . . anywho, thanks for the kind words! I believe that the field will work nicely with the inquisition field; I will be releasing the field with a new texture as well as the corresponding emitters on TWP soon so the public can use it.
quat 30 Aug, 2014 @ 6:37pm
func_portal_cleanser with a custom texture and all the flags unchecked? :3 Lol ncrecc's guess was sooo wrong

Gratz on the front page, great chambers, and nice title pun too, surprised no one called you out on it yet. This field is probably the hardest to turn into something useful and you did it! Chamber 2 kinda sucks for demonstrating how it works... maybe launching the box through the field in ch1 could work just as nice

I wonder if this would play nice with the Inquisition fields... could get real cool, real fast.
QuickNinjaCat 30 Aug, 2014 @ 5:59pm
Pissing. Heheh. I'M GOING TO BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!
Walrus King,king of the walrus 30 Aug, 2014 @ 5:51pm
Lol K pissing...
mich_corbin 30 Aug, 2014 @ 5:36pm
This one is great. The last part was tricky but once you figure out how to make that blue shield in front of the wall dissapear, then it comes clear!
♡ Ratt ♡ 30 Aug, 2014 @ 3:44pm
Also because of the fact i dont know what this does, I have no idea how to do the last level.
♡ Ratt ♡ 30 Aug, 2014 @ 3:41pm
MISSING. I MEANT TO TYPE MISSING.
♡ Ratt ♡ 30 Aug, 2014 @ 3:36pm
I still don't understand what's going on here? Feels like all it does is block portals. Is that it? Or is there something im pissing?
ncrecc 30 Aug, 2014 @ 1:16pm
You're thinking the only reason I don't like it is because I can't code it. I'm saying that it can be replaced with a fizzler in almost any applicable situation, and any situation where it can be used properly it's used to make you rage for a millisecond because you have to walk outside of the field area to place a second portal.
Elenarda 30 Aug, 2014 @ 5:28am
Echt genial!!
Vielen Dank
czyhający_waran 30 Aug, 2014 @ 12:10am
NIce work
TheAwesomeOne 29 Aug, 2014 @ 11:17pm
How do you do the last part of the chamber? I'm probably dumb and don't realize it, but i tried for a long while and couldn't figure it out.
SlenderFox 29 Aug, 2014 @ 8:55pm
Do the numbers at the end matter?
UMNSE  [author] 29 Aug, 2014 @ 7:51pm
Yeah, you know nothing about how it works. Sorry.
ncrecc 29 Aug, 2014 @ 7:23pm
This is a somewhat wild guess, but I think all you need to do is take the fizzler code and remove the scripts that cleanse portals and emancipate objects.
bunnybrains! 29 Aug, 2014 @ 4:56pm
Short, sweet, and as a tutorial, pretty good! Can't wait to see more test chambers utilizing this new element.
UMNSE  [author] 29 Aug, 2014 @ 12:11pm
