i know this won't happen but i can dream
(Also, nice profile pic. Minish cap doesn't get enough love.)
I don't really think Awatsu talks, I think it takes away from their otherworldly feel a bit. In my head, they are certainly intelligent, but they come from an environment where they don't really need to speak and don't have the same capability with it. Sort of like how a forest spirit wouldn't really need to talk to the forest critters it watches over. I think they would still rarely make some sounds like squeaks and chitters, think like Ori from Ori and the Blind Forest.
Can Awatsu talk? And if so: do you have a headcanon voice? If not: what kind of sounds do you imagine them making?
To be totally honest: when I first saw them, I didn't much like the mix of Fox and Eel; but the more I looked at them, the more I started to adore this fuzzy pool noodle of a creature. They so perfectly balance enigmatic & majestic, and cute and innocent; and I adore it. All of their animations so perfectly utilize the design; and just watching them gracefully slide around and toss bubbles everywhere is just amazing. Even down to the sound effects used. Slapping people around and giving everybody whiplash is so (SO) satisfying.
This is definitely my favorite of the R2 entries; but I can see how La Reina won. I personally think Awatsu is more fun, a better roster fit, and more unique. I adore everything about this character; and I hope to God they get added to R2 at some point.
Awatsu is one of the most satisfying characters I've ever used in a platform fighter. All of their attacks work together for some of the smoothest, funnest combos and chains I've ever seen. The bubble system is SO unique and SO fantastically executed; and I absolutely adore it. The combos and setups you can pull off with the bubbles are amazing; and smothering the ledge with them and comboing your opponent into it and bombarding them with bubbles gives me an unnecessarily strong rush of dopamine; and makes Awatsu an absolute blast to play. I can't imagine the absolute war it must have been to code all of that; and have a HUGE amount of respect for you and anyone else involved.
It's creators like you that make me wanna try making a character for myself at some point - I have so many ideas - but yeah, great job
(This chracter is a top pick above (& beside ziggy for me)
I quite desire the amazing noodle in rivals 2. ❤️
Thankfully I think that this is a very unique, polished, and fun character, that I also believe fits the RoA universe.
My only nitpicks are that I think his bair has less reach than I expect it to have. I guess his body's proportions make me think that he'd stretch himself out more but it's instead a short ranged attack (Probs just me needing to adjust better, but I'm curious as if other people have this feeling as well)
Lastly, I think the character's in-game sprite is pretty cute, but then I think his portrait design is kinda ugly (I think I imagined him to not be a furry but a smooth skinned character kind of like Orcane, if that makes sense), but this is probably just me being weird lol.
This is probably my favorite submission of the bunch
I really like how easy to understand this character is.
Most of the time I don't like to read character descriptions and just wanna play the character and find out how they work from me pressing buttons and just playing the actual game.
I think that in making characters unique, many creators often struggle in making them easy to understand from gameplay alone (Not that this is entirely a bad thing, but I doubt I'm alone in this train of thought), or they end up borrowing a lot from actual Smash characters (which is also alright, but you might as well add the actual character itself if you're gonna borrow so much).
