The game doesn't color the projectile and instead just....hides it and only adds like a partial effect or something. I looked into it and it wasn't as easy as applying a color to an alpha layer on the sprite so you'd have to either make new sprites for all the colors and every projectile or make a system to do it automatically.
TLDR: someone wants to work on it. It's not easy, Lot's of work.
Also, for the recipe for Australium , try changing the order you throw materials onto each other--or even try flask mixing . Some trial and error should get you some results :D
