@technolibra - The actual sound file paths will need to be adjusted. You can extract VRO's sound_library.xml to verify what sounds you gotta fix.
technolibra 27 Jun @ 10:44pm
ive just been running them together, certain ships have the sounds from your mods and some dont, it is what it is. ill probably look into finding a way to load your mod after VRO so it overwrites everything.
shadowed  [author] 27 Jun @ 4:56am
@technolibra - I do not play VRO so I have not made a mod for it.

VRO uses many custom sound files so it is not going to be a direct replacement but more of a remake.

If you want help learning how to make a mod like this feel free to DM me on Egosoft discord.
technolibra 26 Jun @ 6:06pm
does both of these mods work with VRO? has a dev made a compatability patch if not?
exzackery 9 May @ 5:07pm
Thanks for this mod shadowed. The clicking sound pissed me off so much I'd turn the sound right down as it was doing my head in!

Thanks for the feedback, FalconDS9! I would love some elite dangerous quality sounds in this game! I basically muffled all repetitive effects like that travel drive click. It isn't a solution but more of a band-aid.

Elite is definitely the bar to match for sound quality but my skills are not there! I really like deep rumble of the engines though. I still plan on making some sounds quieter in the deep impact mod too.

But you aren't bothering at all! I appreciate all the comments. Making artifact-free sound effects is hard and I do plan on re-making this mod one day.
FalconDS9 21 Mar @ 9:41pm
oh and im not using any mods that change vanilla equipment or change/add audio effects other then your 2 mods. just alot of UI, AI, eco, qol mods to improve the vanilla experience.
FalconDS9 21 Mar @ 9:35pm
i tried your mod with the station editor ship, dont actually know what engine it is using. and with a split travel engine in my latest save. i was missing the charge clicks from the travel drive as well, seems your mod removes that audio feedback.
maybe im actually looking for a diffrent style of audio, im always comparing to the excellent sound effects from elite dangerous. that game creates a very complete set of auditory feedback so you always know whats happening even with your eyes closed.
you seem to prefer to reduce audio to the absolute minimum, more the realistic space audio approach where you can only hear the vibrations of the equiment resonating over the hull and shockwaves hitting the ship.

in that case there is no issue with your mod, just with my expectations =) sry for bothering.

@FalconDS9 Rregarding this comment:

"...it might be because of my audio setup (Bose Speakers + Dolby Atmos Equalizer Settings) but after tweaking alot of sliders i cant reach a satisfying balance and im not willing to change everything just for one mod when the same setup works just fine for every other game, music and streaming needs"

It has nothing to do with your setup, After years of hearing these awful effects sounds I had to set the effects slider down to 20%; and adjust everything else. Not ideal and it always annoyed me.

Eventually I did get the motivation to rework nearly every engine and weapon sound effect to actually enjoy hearing them.

If you are able to not be annoyed by the vanilla effects, more power to you!

@Falcon - I made this mod for internal view and to be combined with Deep Impact. I keep Effects at 100 and the rest at 40-60% and am very happy with how it sounds.

The boosts do have a fade out effect. Which engine did you have that had that issue? Are you playing with any mods that increase engine boost duration significantly?

Haha it is ok you don’t have to use it! I made this mod for me and uploaded it for others to use. I don’t mind keeping effects at 100 and lowering the rest down.
FalconDS9 20 Mar @ 9:50pm
im sorry but i had to uninstall your Deep mods again. it might be because of my audio setup (Bose Speakers + Dolby Atmos Equalizer Settings) but after tweaking alot of sliders i cant reach a satisfying balance and im not willing to change everything just for one mod when the same setup works just fine for every other game, music and streaming needs.
FalconDS9 20 Mar @ 9:32pm
some more feedback: boost needs a fade out effect. when you stop boosting it should not just stop playing the boost sound, there must be a wind down sound. with the current volume levels it goes from nice boost sound to silence. i dont realy know if im even moving without looking at the screen, thats not how engine sounds should be.
FalconDS9 20 Mar @ 9:01pm
Are the engine sounds of this made for playing with the external view? because the volume is way too low while in cockpit view but fine when in external view. i get that there should be a diffrence between these 2 but please make it louder while inside, i dont like flying in 3rd person..

Had to crank sound effects up to 100 and also had to increase general speaker volume just to hear anything. without that mod i can easily lower sound effects to 60 to get a comfy volume mix.
shadowed  [author] 10 Mar @ 4:27am
@wilsteir - No problem! Yep, in the content.xml we can specify a dependency for the mod to look for.
wilsteir 10 Mar @ 4:19am
I see you've done it already, thank you
wilsteir 10 Mar @ 1:45am
does it check the name of the file or there's some internal name?
shadowed  [author] 9 Mar @ 5:04pm
@wilsteir - I can add a dependency to zsounds so this mod will load after it in the next update (soon).

Without a dependency a mod is loaded in alphabetical order.
wilsteir 9 Mar @ 3:56pm
is there any way I can make this go over the zsounds mod? I love the way guns sound in it but the engine I MUCH prefer here, and it doesn't seem like I can combine it with my limited knowledge
shadowed  [author] 8 Mar @ 9:37pm
@hardy - That would be pretty sweet if I can pull that off. I'll see if I can amplify the sfx without causing too much distortion.
hardy 8 Mar @ 7:23pm
That is true, but i think it makes sense to balance to default 100/100/100 audio settings, because they are... well, default.
shadowed  [author] 8 Mar @ 5:32pm
@hardy - Thanks for feedback! I won't be trying too hard to balance the engines with other effects like music and voices since we can turn those down manually.
hardy 8 Mar @ 5:03pm
Travel engine might use some volume boost too. Like 10-15%.
hardy 8 Mar @ 4:58pm
Worth a try. Right now, engine sounds are so quiet, so they drown away by music. I had to decrease music to 25% to hear anything at all. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that before.
shadowed  [author] 8 Mar @ 4:47pm
@hardy - I can take a look at reworking those sound files again. They were having some audio issues that needed fixing.
hardy 8 Mar @ 3:48pm
I see that some volume was reduced 4 days ago (Reduced volume on enginedetail_ship_02_jet_01_01, enginedetail_ship_02_jet_01_02, and enginedetail_ship_02_jet_01_03.)
Is that me, or after this update, engine sounds are way too quiet now, especially in S ships?
shadowed  [author] 6 Mar @ 5:12am
@wilsteir- I did not add a dependency for zsounds or other sound mods; so this mod won't take priority over it.

Any mod touching engine sound effects will most likely conflict.
wilsteir 6 Mar @ 3:12am
how does this work with similar mods?
there's a very old one on nexus (zsounds I believe?) - would it overwrite the sound itself or modify it?
shadowed  [author] 5 Mar @ 7:57am
@LeonserGT - Yep! Appreciate all the feedback :)
LeonserGT 5 Mar @ 7:49am
Did you update it after Hardy's comment? Cuz for me boost has nice muffled sound, all is fine
shadowed  [author] 4 Mar @ 7:11pm
@Hardy - Thanks for the comments! I will be reworking more sounds to get them to be more noticeable.
hardy 4 Mar @ 3:50pm
Awesome, makes game more immersive, and sound design less annoying. The only problem I noticed is that boost have no sound at all with this mod.
Galactic Man 24 Dec, 2024 @ 8:48am
This is a fantastic little Mod! The ships sound fabulous now. The extra bass is almost something you can imagine the pilot feeling through the deck plates.
shadowed  [author] 28 Sep, 2024 @ 9:40pm
@Chico Rodriguez - Not sure.
Chico Rodriguez 28 Sep, 2024 @ 9:38pm
Is this compatible with VRO and other mods such as Ossian Raiders?
