Thank you for this! Rimmies always eating the same low-res cubes was one of my biggest peeves so I'm so happy this exists
Worgensnack 11 Jul @ 2:08pm
hm, I just did that, even went as far as doing a full reinstall of the game, deleted all the workshop files as well as the LocalLow files, started the game that was just the DLCs and FTV, and it it get's to the "Initializing..." stage, plays the menu music, but doesn't actually load the menu. turn off Food Texture Variety - Replacement, and the game loads fine, even tried the non replacement version and it still doesn't like it
FaintingGoat  [author] 11 Jul @ 11:47am
Let's try this - if you're having trouble with the game loading, try forcing a redownload of FTV - Replacement and FTV Core. Unsubscribe, delete the folders, resubscribe. If that doesn't fix the issue, we can keep looking for causes.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to reproduce and I had someone else try fresh as well and they didn't get the issue either. It is a little slower to load, probably because of all the textures added, but it shouldn't be hanging forever.
O'Malley de Bough 11 Jul @ 10:18am
I am also experiencing an issue with FTV - Replacement. My game is hanging on the "Initializing..." stage. With FTV - Replacement off it loads fine, and I am also able to launch the game with only FTV Core enabled. At this point I am running, in order: Harmony, Core game and Royalty/Ideology/Biotech/Odyssey, HugsLib, and Food Texture Variety Core.

I haven't tried just yet, and anyways it might have been a problem with the beta or something because there are apparently multiple mods that are causing my game to act weird for some reason, I haven't gotten a chance to load up the game now that 1.6 has dropped properly so maybe things will start working right, I'll have to see and get back to you later
FaintingGoat  [author] 11 Jul @ 5:07am
@Worgensnack - I am not able to reproduce the issue, do you have other mods loaded or are you trying FTV in isolation?
Worgensnack 11 Jul @ 1:28am
for some reason my game can't load on the 1.6 beta with this mod on, but Food Texture Variety Core, Beer, Chocolate and Snacks let my game load up just fine. I would share a log but I'm not sure how to get one without being able to even get to the main menu
Anny 7 Jul @ 1:19pm
would love a option cannibal meat. i cook human meat but turn out it look like just another normal meal. just a tick in mod option to take in watever sub Variety mods i download/subbed
Zippy 5 Jul @ 12:10am
when playing with something like medieval overhaul that also changes default graphics will this overwrite that? Would prefer the graphics from this
ToastyTerra 17 Jun @ 6:28am
I absolutely ADORE this, I'm so tired of the little circles for meals!
FaintingGoat  [author] 16 Jun @ 5:33am
@ReeceyB - of course! It was an easy one, it just works on 1.6 with no changes.
ReeceyB 16 Jun @ 5:31am
Thanks for the 1.6 updoot
Niriam 15 Jun @ 7:02pm
Hey, if I use this mod I shouldn't use base Food Texture Variety, just everything else?
FaintingGoat  [author] 7 May @ 9:14am
@Bolt ⚡ - that's a really fun idea, but due to when the graphics class gets called, the graphics will get refreshed whenever the game starts. So you'd have a variety of meals, save the game, restart it, and all of a sudden every single one of your meals are breakfast foods.

I'm building off the existing graphics classes, which don't write the selected graphic to permanent storage, so everything gets reselected on game load.
Bolt ⚡ 3 May @ 8:30am
Not sure if this is a thing in the mod but can/does it make food relevant for the time of the day appear? LIke bacon & eggs for breakfast or a pizza for lunch.
8beater 14 Apr @ 10:58pm
Works! Thanks for the update I love it!! sorry for spamming the comments lol
FaintingGoat  [author] 14 Apr @ 2:47pm
@8beater - it should be fixed! I pushed an update... thought I'd sneak it in all stealthy but looks like I was too slow.
8beater 14 Apr @ 12:25pm
Yeah I disabled Flavor Text for the time being and now I get the varied textures. Hope it's fixed cause the other mod seems cool
Brian321142 13 Apr @ 4:43pm
Didn't realize I needed this mod until now. So good.
8beater 11 Apr @ 10:47am
Great to hear, thanks!
FaintingGoat  [author] 11 Apr @ 10:06am
I can recreate the problem! Flavor Text makes a pretty big difference in the code when it's running. We've been collaborating on some changes recently so we might just have a mismatch between our mods at the moment... I don't know how quickly we'll get it fixed because I need to look at it more closely, but the problem can be reproduced and I can take it from here. Thank you for your help!
8beater 11 Apr @ 8:55am
IIIRC, these were 2 separate meals - one had meat and the other had apples. All my settings were turned off which I believe is the default. I do not believe I have anything that should alter the textures of food other than the addons for this mod and Flavor Text. Will check my log if I get some time.
FaintingGoat  [author] 11 Apr @ 7:42am
@8beater - that is tragic. Let's see if we can fix that - can you take a look at what the ingredients say they are on the meal in the game? Also, can you let me know what settings you have enabled? There should be three options about using all randomized textures, strict mode, and using a fallback. And if you've got any mods that also change food, list them here for me. Also, if you know how, pop your log open and see if there's any suspicious red errors. If you're not familiar with that, no worries, we'll see if we can recreate the problem on my game here.
8beater 10 Apr @ 11:20pm
i seem to only get toast as a texture for simple meals
RocketRacoon 7 Apr @ 12:32pm
Thanks for the answer. So I guess I wouldn't be able to enjoy this mod to the fullest. Maybe this will convince me to stop using Optimization Meats :D
FaintingGoat  [author] 6 Apr @ 6:18pm
@RocketRacoon - it sort of works. I tried it out and since that mod turns everything into cow meat, you only get meal textures that contain beef added into the randomized options.
RocketRacoon 6 Apr @ 1:46am
Does Optimization: Meats could mess with this mod? As in, if the fact that there is only one meat type could mess with the ingredients selection
Captain Sobel 19 Mar @ 11:11am
Ah, okay! That makes sense. Thank you :)
FaintingGoat  [author] 17 Mar @ 4:26pm
@Real Life Bee - that's a fallback texture for when no texture for a meal exists. I haven't done the tamales yet, but they should be soon.
Captain Sobel 16 Mar @ 5:34pm
It's fun using this mod with Flavor Text, but why do my Rhinoceros Tamales keep turning into some sort of Lemon Sorbet?
Forget Me Not 28 Feb @ 11:24am
This mod just made my game more delicious. Much appreciate for making the foods in RimWorld more alive.
Bitterholz 24 Feb @ 10:27am
If you enable verbose logging in the dev settings of the game it shows you a mods startup time as *Loading cost* in the log. Make sure to disable it once youre done troubleshooting/whatever else.:debug:
McLets 7 Feb @ 2:19pm
Thank you @FaintingGoat.
FaintingGoat  [author] 7 Feb @ 5:11am
@McLets take this with a grain of salt because I had to figure out how to use the performance analyzer for the first time, but there's a jump from 0.001ms to 0.006ms when meals are being cooked. Once meals are cooked, the average quickly drops back down to match vanilla game. I think some of that is unavoidable, since it's searching for significantly more graphics now, but I've been going back every now and then to try to find tricks to make it better.

I'm not sure how to measure game load impact though, because this does add a lot of additional textures.

Anyway, my advice is really to just try it out and see if it bothers you or not. It can be removed safely from a game, after all.
McLets 6 Feb @ 4:27pm
these look beautiful! how performance heavy is this modpack?
Futstub 25 Jan @ 10:00am
Ah ok, so if I only wants yours and the vanilla ones not at all (which I do, because yours are awesome), I only need the replacement one and all the others you made except Food Texture Variety?
jojobe 25 Jan @ 5:02am
can you make an ambrosia cake with no addiction please.
Hobo 25 Jan @ 2:38am
For the packaged survival meals, Alright let's get this out onto a tray .....nice mmkay
FaintingGoat  [author] 24 Jan @ 6:14pm
@Futstub - Food Texture Variety adds new meals using the variety class for people who don't want to patch base game meals. Food Texture Variety - Replacement patches the base game meals to replace their textures with mine. And Food Texture Variety Core is the underlying code that makes all of this work and is required by every mod I've made so far.

Does that help?
Futstub 24 Jan @ 4:34am
I don't get what the difference is for this mod and Food Texture Variety.
The other one adds a recipe for variety meals, but this one doesn't and does the same thing?
Why does the description say I need both then?
redpopsackle 21 Jan @ 1:51pm
newly a big fan of this series of mods... it really adds a special something to see your starving colonist finally get to eat a turtle meat hot dog. 10 stars
jojobe 20 Jan @ 6:05pm
This mod is really good. I'm surprised its not more popular.
Cat Princess 15 Jan @ 10:48am
This is soooo great, I will write a song about this mod
Cat Princess 15 Jan @ 10:46am
Homie, you fugging rock!
FaintingGoat  [author] 15 Jan @ 8:25am
@Derproid - I might! I just need to get to enough textures to make it worthwhile.
Derproid 15 Jan @ 6:17am
This is amazing, having all the meals look the same has always bothered me and the Ingredient Searching has to be the best implementation of this idea I've seen. Thank you for this. Is there a chance you'll add Ingredient Searching to your other Food Texture Variety mods?
Captain Buzz 10 Jan @ 1:04pm
Thank you for your work on this!
MeOwOgai 10 Jan @ 11:23am
I've been using this mod for some time and its a must, honestly, thank you for your work
Polandra 8 Jan @ 5:17pm
@FaintingGoat thanks for the clarification, much appreciated!
