Well, it's xml only mod. Your change over time would require some actual coding.
Alma_S 11 Apr @ 10:59am
ah, yeah. thats how i wouldve rationalized it myself. not a very good execution of it though. it would be a lot better if, say, blindness under 50% would build up a "blindness adapt" hediff that will eventually mitigate some of the darkness effects. the lower their sight capacity, the higher blindness adapt can max out, maxing out at 100% if the pawn has 0% sight for long. i know youre just maintaining, but it would be awesome if you could implement this probably not so simple suggestion. either way, thanks for maintaining such a neat mod!
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 11 Apr @ 10:48am
Oh my head canon on that is that blind pawns learn to adapt while sighted are still struggling with relying on a lesser sense. But that's how the original mod did it.
Alma_S 11 Apr @ 10:16am
ive not any lag issue with that mod on my nearing 500 mods modlist, though suit yourself.

however, i still dont understand the part of "Pawns with less than 50% Sight will eat up to 25% slower than pawns with more than 50% Sight." and "Non-blind pawns in Darkness will eat up to 50% slower." doesnt this mean darkness debuff on a sighted pawn is worse than a pawn who cant see at all?

I'll note the lunk, though I don't use it. Heard concerns about TPS drag.
Alma_S 11 Apr @ 5:50am
also, since youre suggesting doorway darkness mitigation, might i suggest putting this mod that lets lights flow into opened doorways in your description? this can be very helpful

wait this makes totally blind pawns more capable than partially sighted pawns with severe sight? am i understanding this correctly?

After playing with it for about 5 in game years a few tweaks.

* Shallower curve into darkness so 30% to 20% is 1.00 to 0.9 and then 20% to 0% is 0.9 to 0.5 drop off eating speed

* Global work speed maximum at 0% light is down to 0.25 (75% loss) instead of 0.20 (80% loss)

* Movement speed is 60% at 0% light

Arcane patching update so that a potential redtext bug doesn't show up with other mods creating eatingspeed/parts xml before this mod can get to do so.

Honestly, I can't say just yet. I like it thematically as trying to do anything at night in a biome that's covered in snow without light sources should be darn well impossible and it makes throwing up lights in your habitation areas significantly more important. However, gameplay-wise I kind of feel it might be a bit too much. Knee-jerk response is that a compromise to 60% movement speed would be better, but everyone's mod set is different and it may just be a tuning edge case with my set due to all the factors and interactions involved.

I'll have to play around more as I do have ways to help mitigate things (Aelanna's Flares mod) aside from the obvious of putting lights everywhere. Gut feeling is to leave it as-is as it does encourage gameplay aspects which you could otherwise just brute force or ignore.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 30 Dec, 2024 @ 7:11am
@takel: Do you think the 60% is too much? So far in my playing it's been OK (no snow though- tropical), but yeah nightime is not a good time to be running around unless you are a night preferred character.

I find myself lighting the paths I cut through the jungle so that they can get to where they need to go.
Takel 30 Dec, 2024 @ 5:59am
Wow, the -60% movement speed debuff being in darkness is brutal. Combined with biome terrain modifiers like snow, there's no way you're going to do anything at night unless you scatter lights everywhere. Really impactful because it means those drop pod survivors that have 3 hours until bleed out? Yeah, sorry mate, but it's night time and there's no way I'll get to you and stop the bleeding before those three hours are up,

Also, playing Lilly's route first is a major regret of mine because there was no more motivation to even consider the other routes after that satisfaction.
