They've literally said it's an error in stress code but ig couldn't do a temp fix of just snipping it so there's only 1 stress counter till they get it to stop multiplying

I started B42, was super annoyed trying to figure out what was wrong with stress, got gaslit on the subreddit, so I just didn't play it. Coming back, holy shit it's still not even fixed? Wow. Dude. Wow. Thanks for this mod. Much appreciated.

I'm baffled at how this is still a problem. They made a new function to get smoker vs basic stress and then still aren't using it... for over half a year? This mod only changes the Lua of looting and tobacco items. Drinks and other 'entertainment' call Java code that I don't want to be asking people to overwrite.

Stress bug still in full effect, other mods are also affected if they try to reduce stress while Player Character has smoker trait such as 'Reefer Madness'. Any radio/tv that gives a 'down' chevron will actually skyrocket it to max stress levels very quickly. I don't know how it actually works but whatever has been done in-game to separate smoker stress from other forms has caused most anything that reduces stress to seemingly (integer?) overflow in the opposite direction.

I've had it off trying to track the new coughing 'mechanic' and haven't noticed any insane 150% spikes but I've also all but avoided anything but Life & Living TV, no other radio/TV really.

I've not played or followed b42 in a while since my last comment. Are they still messing up stress? The problem on b42 launch was that everything was doing math wrong so all stress, boredom, unhappiness reducers were maximally efficient.

I use more cigarettes with this mod than without. Less quality of life and more of a challenge run mod.

Yeah something still skyrocketing my stress to like nearly 150% when I watch TV sometimes or seemingly randomly. Had this turned off after the patch notes but don't believe it either.

maybe a band-aid fix could be like adding a stress reduction to the smoker trait to make it even out in the stress generation...? i have no clue how modding works so sorry if that melted your brain xD

Yeah, whatever bug they introduced is unrelated to the one fixable in the lua. They DID fix the stress related to having the hemophobic trait, which is neat, but like six lines up they still have the lines that added bad stress when looting commented out.

Wow as a new player both making the mistake of a ton of traits and mods the stress thing seemed a bit wild to me but wow to learn how many are most certainly bugs with Fear of Blood and Smokers and several other things apparently... about to try this mod out now with another that increases some spawn rates to match southern 90's rates.

Thank you @Luna for confirming this for me. I obviously saw the effects in game but I hand't heard anyone else acknowledge them yet. Currently, the smoker trait is pretty much unusable.

That honestly doesn't surprise me at this point. I'm convinced they forgot they made this stat change entirely despite having the foresight to build a method to fix this specific problem. Unfortunately I think those interactions might be in Java, rather than lua. I'll have to take another look, but I'm right the only way to fix that is by overwriting files.

I do not expect you to update the mod for this bug but it seems the smoker trait is a bit more bugged currently, i made a report going more in depth : https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/79031-4211-rev25941-smoker-and-possibly-other-stressed-traits-are-bugged-with-liquid-consumption/

TLDR: Reading, radio, drinking certain liquids, like milk or soda, and some other stress reducing activities actually increase stress instead of lower when you have smoker as of 42.2.0

Figured id post this as a heads up for anyone browsing the workshop for smoker mods.

So rather than fix the bug with the stress adding at the incorrect rate, they just... removed the stress from looting bodies. From what I can tell from the lua, they didn't even fix the bug for the fear of blood trait for smokers, nor changed how much stress tobacco products reduce.

So this mod is still relevant, if mildly more 'difficult' than vanilla because it still gives negligible stress for looting off corpses.

Thanks for this. I try to play with minimal mods when testing unstable, but I went from tier 1 anxiety to max tier anxiety after looting a zombie corpse. That's obviously not intended, otherwise why have like four other tiers of anxiety??

no, stress from zombie looting is actually incredibly low. My debugging was showing like .003% per game tick, and most things are light enough that's only like 10 ticks, so a whopping 0.03% stress for looting a watch.

I can only imagine what other things rely on "basic stress" when they're accidentally using the aggregate stress. It's probably the same reason panic is bugged, too.

Stress overall is a weird thing.
- It's not a part of BodyDamage like other moodles.
- stats:setStress sets ACTUAL stress, while stats:getStress() returns "normal stress + cigarette stress". I almost went mad when trying to find out why my Arcade machines mod doesnt work.

Beta means gameplay features are likely to be incomplete or bugged, I think with the sheer mass and depth of content added warrants some patience as bugs are patched especially considering B42 is not the current stable build and something you choose to opt into.
That being said, thank you to modders like @Kisheen and @Vulfox who are offering patches like this so we can have a more cohesive playtest.
