@k.o kirbe Ah sorry you had an slight unfortunate experience! Yeah saving for these maps are deffo ideal. I hope you enjoyed it overall however!
k.o kirbe 21 Mar @ 12:38am
this test made me dizzy but it's alright once you figure it out but that's just cruel to make me have to pass the cube through over and over one fuckup and forget to save and you gotta do the loop all over
Mattchew  [author] 8 Feb @ 1:43pm
@PDX I think you hit the nail on the head on why there's such varying solves! Thank you so much for favving and playing ^^
PDX 8 Feb @ 10:58am
Some people seem really stuck while others blaze through this one. I solved it in maybe 20 min. I think the reason is that despite having some devious logic and subtle states, the moves flow well into each other and the map is very cohesive, so you can get into a nice flow state. Favourite part was the faith plait meme, where you had to put companion on portal button so you can drop the cube early Very nice map, the win is well deserved! Favorited

@Quat Thank you :> I'm glad you digged the on/off usage in this one! Thank you for the fav as well ^^
quat 2 Feb @ 8:48pm
very subtle and interesting puzzle! Was a little lost on what to do until i thought about how the ending should work. I also think this is a great use of the on/off mechanic

@ DiDo Killer! It was fun watching you solve the 2nd half of this map, thank you so much for the kind comments ^^ Feels nice to make it to the memorable maps collection haha.
DiDo Killer! 30 Jan @ 3:24pm
Leaving a comment on this one before I forget. Amazing map. The logic was very subtle, everything felt justified and the moveset was very unique and interesting to figure out. Had a blast with it, no complains. Faved!

@ShaggieIII Great work Shaggie! That bit can be a bit tricky heha
ShaggieIII 29 Jan @ 12:44pm
Finally got it. The end move not being what I thought it was going to be was part of my problem. Such an elegant move, just beautiful.
Mattchew  [author] 29 Jan @ 11:44am
@Leo haha don't worry, I actually had to rewrite several comments myself :P Thank you for playing!!
Leo 29 Jan @ 2:37am
Fantastic puzzle! I didn't expect the faithplate to be such a pain in the ***. The portal gun on/off concept was wonderfully implemented, and anyone who's familiar enough with my workshop knows I have a soft spot for ghost cubes as well. Big thumbs up!
(Sorry for the multiple notifications, I messed up my spoiler tags twice in a row lol)
Mattchew  [author] 28 Jan @ 7:09pm
@Probably John I'm assuming you probably liked it haha, thank you for playing ^^
Probably John 28 Jan @ 6:01pm
Awesome map! The difference in state between having nothing on the portal button and having the companion cube on the portal button was super subtle, but I love how you made the ability to fizzle your portals in the latter state impact the puzzle in such a big way. The Ghost Cube move at the end was devilish and I am here for it.
Mattchew  [author] 28 Jan @ 5:35pm
@horse Oh wow surprise to see you! Hehe the final move is something i'm very much proud of :D Took me so long to find a setup that suits it, which turned out to be on/off! I'm glad that people seem to dig it. Thank you ^^
horse 28 Jan @ 5:08pm
Awesome puzzle! In hindsight the last move seems like it should have been obvious but it caught me off guard and was a great aha moment. And I too enjoyed the faith plate placement.
Mattchew  [author] 28 Jan @ 4:12pm
@Peterrfalko There is a manual save/load option, which is F6/F7 (although you may have already customized this setting)
peterrafalko 28 Jan @ 4:06pm
Why there is not a auto save option? You programmed faith plates specific way preventing the player to gain some height and shoot the portal on the far end , as a result I end up in the goo and I had to start from the beginning.... I become a chore to go back and forth in order to get the cube in the right place .
Nobody No-One 28 Jan @ 3:28pm
I would also add that it's not a matter of "some geniuses out there" but simply of experience with the types of maps and modes of thinking promoted by the puzzle subcommunity. I played "Paradox," the map you mentioned, and found it quite easy because I've played a lot of similar puzzles so I'm very used to how to quickly perceive what the problem is and what sorts of moves are available to get around any given type of problem. If you want to gain that sort of experience a good starting point is the collection "Introduction to the Workshop," whose name undersells how good and interesting its puzzles are: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=470046703

@Hunter Reed Sorry for taking so long to respond! Thank you so much for the kind words, and thank you for playing and getting as far as you did :D You're doing good!

Talking about difficulty ratings is ironically, difficult but the only thing I could say if compared to maps on the workshop that are rated hard then the medium rating does fit I believe. However don't give me wrong this puzzle is still very difficult! In-fact some puzzles scored easy can be quite tricky! So don't get discouraged by the silly scoring system :p It both fits but is also flawed.

Again thank you for playing ^^
Retnar 27 Jan @ 10:26pm
IMHO this puzzle is the hardest portal room I've ever done. Spent way more time than I'd like to admit and still couldn't get past the halfway point without using the guide. Incredible job designing this one!

I understand there are some geniuses out there but for the average player, this should be rated hard difficulty. I would consider Paradox to be medium in comparison.

Just to give you an example of how hard it was for me: I spent an hour getting to the halfway-ish point and then looked up the guide (first time ever using a guide for Portal 1 or 2 as well). I spent another 30 minutes after watching the guide (one time without pausing) trying to solve it based off memory and still struggled to the point where I had to go back and watch it again.

I’ve never had this much trouble with a puzzle until this map. Again, very well done!
Mattchew  [author] 27 Jan @ 6:32pm
@I slept 9 hours last night No shame using the guide, you did very good getting that far! Thank you for playing ^^
I slept 9 hours last night 27 Jan @ 6:18pm
Great map! Wasn't able to solve it, sadly, but I was able to get to the halfway point on the guide video in this thread.

@smileyface888 I have to delete your comment due to major spoilers (make sure to use spoiler formatting) But thank you i'm glad you liked it ^^
Mattchew  [author] 27 Jan @ 10:22am
@Bullfrog Yup that's all intended! And yeah that makes sense to me haha, the solution can be a little surprising :p Thank you for playing!
bullfrog 27 Jan @ 6:45am
Brilliant puzzle which definitely had me proper stuck for a while, on two occasions. Definite  and added to favourites intended solution ? It's what you have to do, get there, don't do that, do something else and then do that, that I really like, if that makes any sense at all!
Mattchew  [author] 26 Jan @ 10:29pm
@Oblivious Owl Hehe congrats! Funny enough I played an on/off map of yours, Superposition and got really stuck myself :p Thank you for playing and favving!

@Mark I'm unsure what you mean for the horizontal panel. If you mean floor surface that sadly can't be angled due to needing to allow the cube to fling thru it.

I've thought of ways to make it so the cube doesn't land on the surface, but it didn't seem worth it since it would've compromised the geo a little bit just for an extra loop around :p However I can prevent that portal shot you mentioned, it doesn't break anything luckily but being clear with communication is best.
Thank you for the kind words and feedback : D
mark 26 Jan @ 5:14pm
Possibly the horizontal panel should have a little bit of angle, so the cube will not fall to be grabbed by the funnel later. Plus, the funnel can be reached from outside, which can be fixed. I know these moves feel unintended (more or less), so it's just a suggestion to minimize tiny confusions.
mark 26 Jan @ 5:02pm
I really love how all the moves were packed in this one. Very clever and subtle. And nice design and overall feeling as usual. Favoriting it
Oblivious Owl 26 Jan @ 1:48pm
Oof that was way trickier than it should have been for me. I spent ages trying to solve this the other day and getting nowhere, and then I tried it again today and solved it in 15 minutes. Very good puzzle with some cool subtleties! Favorited :)
Mattchew  [author] 26 Jan @ 10:19am
@Calimero I can understand that! The distance may unfortunately be discouraging to try. Hopefully it was easy to execute at least. However I am glad you enjoyed the map :D!
小狗不许叫! 26 Jan @ 6:00am
To be honest, I'm one of those who are having a really tough time. But it is not because the multiple respawns, or the subtle diference of each stage, what actually stuck me is using the fizzler to disable the portals, that came into my head at first thought but the long distance stopped me from doing that! After lots of attempts and thinking, I finally decided to have a try and I made it. Apart from that, the subtlety of each stage and the exit conditions are really great, I just want to nag about the unintuitive move lol
Mattchew  [author] 25 Jan @ 9:00pm
@Hovering Harry Don't be, it is a tricky fella :P I hope you liked!

Blind run: https://youtu.be/QbKcLtxkw3g
Great map! Like the others I really loved the subtlety of the faith plate position — I initially assumed that funneling the normal cube while having the other cube on the on/off button would be the exit condition, but then it became clear that the timing wouldn't work out, and in fact there were more states than just that. Thumbs up!
Mattchew  [author] 25 Jan @ 1:39pm
@HuskyManiac Thank you so much! Yeah no i'm specifically proud of the faith-plate placement haha Thank you for the fav!

As for the difficulty I am not sure. Some have had a very tough time some have had it easier. For now I will keep it Medium unless more people talk to me about it. Either way I think you are doing very good : D
Husky 25 Jan @ 1:33pm
This was an amazing puzzle :D
I especially enjoyed the amount of subtle states. My favourite one was probably the one where the you could remove the funnel earlier after bringing the companion cube over... The use of the faith plate to force that was devious :)

Anyways, this felt a bit easy for a medium, although maybe I'm just improving at solving?
Mattchew  [author] 25 Jan @ 12:59pm
@SHOOD That was a great solve, I really had fun watching it. I like commenting thru the console commands, than you for playing :)

@mentallentil Thank you for the fav :D I think the faith-plate placement maybe one of my favorite parts of the map funny enough. [/spoiler[
mentallentil 25 Jan @ 10:41am
Really good stuff, took me 20 minutes to work out. The amount of cube respawning was really impressive for such a simple looking map! I thought I had it when the cube went in and then right out of the ending room.... and above that faith plate too... awesome subtleties there :) Faved!
