I won’t be supporting other mods since I’m really busy right now; but I’m happy to help show you how to make a similar version for that mod on the Egosoft discord.
I will NEVER be able to play without it again. That said however brings me to the story of another enterprising hero.
Another Legend (who's name eludes me, atm) made a "realistic FLaK effect" mod, that alters both the visuals of the rounds, and the explosions they create, but also changes them to sound more like WW2-stylized FLaK "pops".
TL;DR: Homie, you've ruined me forever, the game just sounds outright bad without your mod, but another one of you modding legends made a dope flak mod, and i was wondering if you would be wiling to give his mod the "Deep Impact" treatment and release a patch for it so my space battle soundscape stays contiguous.
Please man, i'm begging you! :c
lol, really do love the mods though, btw. All jokes aside, your two "Deep" mods are an absolute must-have for EVERYONE.
Gonna replace them anyway for something better 👀
But, as I said, I love the idea of the mod. It really does sound nice - I was not a fan of sqeeky *pewpewpew* sounds of guns in this game. So when they are muffled - it's much better. I just wish the overall audio balance could be adjusted as well somehow.
Oh, well...
I'm really happy with how the game sounds right now so I am not in any rush to fix this. I made this mod for myself so I can play the game without being annoyed at the terrible Effects sfx.
The other sound effects (UI, Ambient, Voice) are fine to turn down to ~60-70% and match well.
It is really easy to introduce audio popping artifacts by just increasing the volume. I can do a rework in the future but for now I want to enjoy playing the game.
I will need to do a big rework of the sound files to make them louder without adding more audio artifacts.
Also, I keep forgetting checklog in steam workshop exists...
I posted the the id's in the changelog (since I will forget too) but they are also the latest entries in the top of sound_library.xml. I believe you are after 'scfx_result_bad_01' and so on.
Yeah, I'm aware of how to tweak things, mind actually sharing ids for those exact sounds? 👀
I find those scan sounds really annoying after a few years and if I find a sound effect annoying in X4; it gets reworked.
To fix this yourself, download X Tools and use xrwsunpack.exe to unpack the workshop mod and then use XRCatToolGUI.exe to extract it. If you use the nexusmods version, you can extract it directly with XRCatToolGUI.exe.
In DeepImpact/libraries/sound_library.xml remove the entries for the sound effects you want restored.
