Fixed, simple typo

there seems to be an issue with the Ziin of the river where their second shape has the same sprite as their first

this is really awesome, thank you

Pushed a patch for the weapon IDs.
Mormacil  [author] 23 Mar @ 10:54am
Oh man, I missed that. I accidentally worked in the wrong ID range for Runkuma. Alright I gotta push a fix ASAP. It's not just the thunder axes, it's essentially all weapons.

The Thunder Axe weapon has the same ID as the sight loss from Toxandria. Running them together gave Toxandria's jagers thunder axes (which is awesome, but probably not intended)

I have to admit the research was pretty hard this time. Pre-Islamic is poorly documented and my French is even worse making the limited sources harder to access. But I'm happy with the result, a good base for the later ages.

The Ziin sprites are so damn beautiful btw

You can't out-anthropology Mormacil

It's the sound of thunder, from lightning attacks. I added that as it's the source of the fear effect. They're based on the figure of Dongo, a thunder god of sorts. And his thunder would scare away the Ganji and Ziin spirits in stories.

Note that I'm not intending to disparage the mod at all, its some super high quality work for sure! Speaking of guns, I'm using the sound mod and the lightning hits from the axes sounds a bit like gunshots. First thing I thought when they all started spamming those double axe attacks was "oh damn these guys brought their gats to a knife fight"
Mormacil  [author] 21 Mar @ 5:35pm
Even when we reach the late age we're not going to do gun analogues because the main inspiration will by Songhai who famously didn't adopt guns and thus lost to their neighbors who did. This isn't all of West Africa, this is a specific part of West African history and mythology. If you want a more human take, I made Dagawie. I probably will explore West Africa some more but I won't throw it all into a big pile. We're gonna represent the individual cultures properly and not generalize.

So a couple of things here. They're not based on the Vanir and Sidhe, they're like them beings of glamour. Which is entirely appropriate for the beings depicted as they're know as shapeshifters, spirit possession and seducers. All things depicted as glamour in Dominions.

African smiths as mages is already done by Machaka nor is that specifically a trait of the cultures I based this on. It's indeed common but not universal. It would fit southern Cameroon much better than Northern Nigeria. Though you would notice we do have a magical smith in the nation but he's focused specifically on making the lightning based weapons of the gods from the stories.

As for crossbows, we're early age here. There no firearms, there no crossbows. There's barely any Saharan trade with Europe at this point in history. Camels haven't been introduced yet, horses haven't grown enough to carry a man. Hence I opted for zebra chariots as chariots were used for transport at the time.
voronin_mike 21 Mar @ 4:33pm
Hm. Historically, West Africans were good metal workers, even if at later era they started to buy raw steel from European traders (they also copied crossbows and a couple of sword designs at that time, but eventually many princes preferred to just buy handguns and establish their own neighboor-raiding businesses which went as well as you'd expect)... And iron workers had a reputation of sorcerers (though this was actually quite common in many regions). So I'm not sure that modelling after Vanir or especially Sidhe is really appropriate here.
Will give it a try, nut am not very optimistic.
Mormacil  [author] 21 Mar @ 4:22pm
Hmm I might remove it then, the shock modifier. That's more powerful than it should be for sure.
Geeves 21 Mar @ 3:14pm
I believe the stun is just part of lighting damage on a weapon. It definitely stuns. Just tested against PD and some of them are getting the stun status
Mormacil  [author] 21 Mar @ 1:49pm
It shouldn't stun. I haven't given it the ability to stun. The secondary effect should be lesser fear.
Geeves 21 Mar @ 1:00pm
Oh... well just fyi that means they roll pretty much everything with that ranged magic attack that can stun.
Mormacil  [author] 21 Mar @ 11:57am
No they're meant to have unlimited, well 25 rounds, of attacks. That might be a bit excessive but they're not meant to run out of ammo. They're homing axes that keep coming back to their hands Thor style.
Geeves 21 Mar @ 11:19am
I suspect you meant to give the Dongo Warriors 1 ammunition? Currently they have unlimited throwing axes that cost 1 fatigue
Rough 21 Mar @ 6:37am
Can't wait to take this for a spin!
Aten 20 Mar @ 1:34pm
Really cool, great spritework for it too. Going to give it a try (:

Super cool region of the world, always love to see some Sahelian representation! Another banger as always.
