FYI more PokeLib upgrades happening... keybinds for walking and emoting are moving to PokeLib so you may need to rebind keys! Sorry for the trouble~

Hi all! Just a heads-up that this mod now depends on a new mod, Turtle's PokeLib, which holds a number of common features and functions that would be used in the event that another playable Pokemon race is made using the same move system that this mod uses.
The code library would also help ease the process of making such races for other developers too, not just myself, as they can reuse the move system and vitamin items from the new library mod.

I've done my best to try and keep all player save data intact with this change, so please let me know if you suddenly lose learnt moves or have your move power reset!

Outside of modded accessories, only balloons or accessories technically marked as a 'balloon' will render, if I'm not mistaken. Wings, too, if you count the custom wing sprites as an accessory layer.

I know it says "most armor and accessory slots are hidden" in the description. Which of course makes sense. What layers/accessory types are actually visible?

I'm using Taunt in place of Sucker Punch because well, I'm playing melee, I can see its appeal when you fill a different role though!

Yup yup
I am a personal fan of Quick Attack, Sucker Punch, Detect and Double Team. Missing out on Focus Energy and Swords Dance is unfortunate but having on-demand defensive options is worth it on harder difficulties where getting hit is a no-no.

The more I play with the mod, the more I realise how strong your movement options are... and it honestly balances out being generally flimsier than average (Calamity/Fargo's on combined Death/Eternity modes is a good metric for it). The 4 move syndrome is real here, though, as all the dodging/defence moves are too good to pass on. :steamhappy:

I am unfortunately not taking commissions any more, sorry!

An eevee race would likely be a lot of work though, especially considering if you want to support the eeveelutions~
I have considered trying my hand at making that, but I haven't found the motivation lately to tackle such new race projects and have no idea when/if I will 😅

That being said, I openly welcome any aspiring modders to extract my code and take a look how things are done. I'm completely OK with people re-using the systems I've implemented to make absol work, if they want to make their own 'mons.

That is intentional behaviour, but you’re right that certain abilities should probably get an exception for the rule. Like, I get that it doesn’t make sense that you can’t use Perish Song while swinging a sword, but moves like Slash shouldn’t be usable while using another item already.

I’ll take a look at adjusting that for some of the moves when I get the chance.

Also, as I play with the abilities more, one thing keeps bothering me, and that's being unable to use any abilities if you're during an item/weapon's use animation. Is this intentional, or an oversight? (If the former, at least evasion oriented skills should work regardless, to not discourage using weapons with long use time.)

You could consider going for ones they are most likely to run in the actual game, could even run a poll to gather such data yourself. The most obvious ones for me are Thunderbolt, Flamethrower and Ice Beam, for being common coverage options (Which worked well with the Mega form).

I unfortunately have no plans to add more moves to Absol. Making the currently-available set was already a lot of effort, and if I go after TMs/egg moves I'd probably have to hand-pick a few rather than add them all (lest I drive myself crazy), which feels... wrong, in a way?

I wonder, have you considered expanding Absol's available moveset beyond their level-up list, to make use of a pretty large amount of TMs they can learn? You gain access to everything early in Hardmode, and it would be neat to have new tools to unlock later on, and make builds more diverse movewise.

If you do ever feel like trying it yourself, please do feel free to extract this mod's assets from in-game to see how things are done. I have allowed the original source code to be extracted, so you'll get the code comments and everything~

@Gauzic, can do. Funnily, the melee attack hitboxes only last for a couple of frames, so their range isn't really impacted much by moving. Regardless, it would make sense for the visual to at least follow Absol around. I *should* be able to add a scale value to most attacking moves, too.

another problem is that when using moves if absol is running in the direction of that move it will give the move less range because the move isnt anchored and gives less range when chasing bosses. Can this be fixed?

Hey is it possible for you to add the ability to configure move size?
I want to do a run with calamity soon and its a value i really wanted to change simply to make calamity more fun. I plan to use the other amazing config settings (its actually incredible :) to adjust my damage to get dps close to calamity weapons.

@Blank, just create a new character, and you can choose Absol from there.

This mod is built upon MrPlague's Authentic Races, which lets you pick a race during character creation. There's a new tab among the character customisation tabs (if I recall correctly, it looks like a DNA strand) that will let you choose your race.

I'm probably just gonna chill for a while after having made this one, so I can't really say what I'll be doing next, or when. I openly welcome other modders to use this mod (or any of my other mods) as a reference for making their own race mods, though, if they so wish.

Types would be possible, but it would be a huge pain to make it compatible with enemy attacks, since it will mean having to manually flag pretty much every single enemy and projectile in the game with a type (or two). I'm not sure if that kind of damage multiplier system would be healthy from Terraria gameplay perspective, either 😅
