armchair.oneironaut: POD is not adding mages in the next update. Our next big update on Steam Workshop will expansion for East Asia to match what Paradox is doing for All Under Heaven DLC.

Awesome mod! I checked out the todo list on Trello, regarding PoD: the devs are planning to add mages in the next update so it might not be worth the trouble to change anything in regards to that mod until afterwards. But for when that DOES happen, I have a suggestion: a game rule that restricts the blood magic/cultist traits to mortals and lesser supernatural creatures like ghouls, or removes access when a character becomes a vampire or comparable monster. I assume that would require a patch and a bunch of balancing work. Thank you for everything you've done!

Nicelander, I don't know how much Game of Thrones you're into but this could make a nice Red Priest (Rhllor) sub mod with a minimum AGOT tweaking. You could also expand it for other magic using societies in the Thronesverse. I also think and even better fit could be the Valyrian Blood Mages.

Has easily become one of my favorite mods in this game. Makes you a little bit overpowered, but a lot of fun. Would be cool to see some more interactions and ingame events.

On overhaul traits: Would be cool to be able to drain Skinchanger in LOTR.
You might also consider a dedicated submod for LOTR because of the blood mage religion (so that it can have proper tenets, hostility, holy sites).

@nicelander Ok, I get it but after like a century I feel like there is too much blood mages in the game and I don’t like it that much but hey that’s just my opinion, thanks for the answer anyway.

@rouge - if you want to disable the congenital/random spawning of blood mages, just comment out the lines for genetics in the trait file, or just set them to disabled: "birth = 0", "random_creation = 0", and "genetic = no". you'd just have to do this every time the mod updates.

Vampire mods tend to make you immortal, unable to die from diseases and/or less chance to die from battle. You're still mortal here, although just live longer.

UPDATE:
* Blood Mage Trait no longer blocks Strengthen Bloodline decision
* Can now remove own BAD congenital traits, by draining prisoners (ugly, slow, delicate)

DO NOT start with a Hideous (level 3 bad appearance/beauty trait). This irreversibly alters your character's face, and no amount of draining or console commands can make them beautiful again :(

@rouge, if you go back in the comments this has been requested before. I want blood mages to appear randomly in the world. Congenital traits are the easiest way. Need to look at another way, but that would involve dome checks for every child whenever they are born and I don't like that idea, as it's extra complexity and might slow down the game. If you know if better ways, please suggest! 😁

Life's gotten in the way lately, so not been able to work on the mod. I will make the trait positive in the next update! Think I accidentally took it out when trying to make it non congenital a while back

@rouge, this is very tricky and not planning on doing it anytime soon, as I prefer having them randomly pop up

The Blood Magic trait will be considered a negative trait, making it impossible for characters to click on the Strengthen Bloodline Resolution

Is bloodline buffing supposed to affect only specific house or entire dynasty? Some of the flavour text implies it should buff dynasty, but it applies house modifiers. Does not make much of a difference for my immortal patriarch games though.

Can I expect my sons to invest in my bloodline if I land them? Courtier blood mages do not seem to do much with the trait.

Hello, if a character possesses the Blood Mage trait, it appears to cause issues in strengthening bloodline decisions. This is reflected as having zero negative traits but being unable to meet the conditions.

Sooooo, appearently the Bloodmage trait now counts as a negative physical trait, blocking the "Strengthen the Bloodline" decision. At least it is the case in my game now.

I don’t really understand what was changed in the russian localization - file bm_game_rules_l_russian.yml still contains critical errors in the text.
setting_quintessence_religion_enabled_desc: "Присоединение к культовому решению ЗАПРЕЩЕНО." this means "Joining the cult decision is FORBIDDEN"

New update!

* Can drain and level up Blood of Numenor trait from LOTR. Please let me know if there are any other overhaul traits that may be interesting to have included!
* Lifeforce no longer gives +1 prowess
* It's now in general harder to drain traits, but gets easier as your XP in Blood Mage trait advances
* New decision to become blood mage, hard to do, harsh punishments, success increases with age/health and any positive traits or negative traits that are required for the decision, or are inflicted as a result of failing the decision
* Tiger fixes: wise man trait missing, old reference to blood_cult, icons references that don't exist in faith, missing localization triggers
* Regenerate Chinese localization, too many errors in Tiger
* Regenerate Russian localization by request

Hi. Russian machine loc is really bad - for example, in the game rules file, it literally translated the meaning into the opposite of the original. Just for fun, try translating it back into English))

What @yakuzaza described happends to me as well. Most definitely a bug.
it can be fixed by modifying the character_interactions/bm_become-a-blood-mage.txt file and add the scope:actor tag, like this:

I don't think the Ask for Blood Magic Interaction is working correctly. Every time I try to use it to gain blood magic from a friend/lover etc, it is unable to be selected saying "Level of Devotion is less than Faithful". Even when myself and the other character are Faithful or above, the interaction is not selectable.

@Exc4l1buR Other way around, should make a new branch for the new version and deprecate this one to be un-updated. If it's changing so much stuff it's breaking the current game it shouldn't be pushed forward on the current release.

in future it might be a good idea to announce it at the top of the workshop page, that the latest update will break existing saves, and upload an archive of the old version as a new mod so those that want to can continue their existing saves

Couldn't take the new religion. I just grabbed an older version of the mod from github so it's not completely messed up. Without them converting everyone it's already balanced enough for me that it's dying out instead of spreading all over the world.

Unfortunately during the overhaul of the religion, it broke in this way. Seeing the number of comments of lack of balance and snowballing, I felt it was better to overhaul the religion, than leave as is. Sorry about that! In theory you should be able to take the new religion, and fix it that way via the same decision, but the progress of the old one is lost.

With the changes to the blood cultist religion my current playthroughs religion got all messed up - it's now a cult_of_blood_religion_adj and a bunch of the religious sins and virtues are gone. :( Maybe don't delete whole religion without leaving the original... well at least my game hasn't crashed so far but yeah... I'm not sure what to about that -

Trait doesn't give fertility, but lifeforce does. Good shout though, trait should probably give it as well! Will add in next update

Quick question: So far i have only seen the trait giving life expectency but to effectively play as a female character, years of fertility would also be necessary.
Is this part of the system allready and did i simply miss it or is that missing at the moment?

They are quite rare already, same as staring with intelligent trait or 0.25%. I get around 40-50 out of the 20,000 characters on game start. AFAIK, having the trait chance be dynamic isn't avialble in the game code, so unless I do a complete overhaul of how to get the trait it's not possible 😐

Update:
- Fix gender in description of being killed by blood mage
- Failed trait draining leaves the victim weakened, making them more likely to die in jail
- Zealous AI won't convert to cult.
- Added Game Rule to disable cult/religion decision (can still take at game start)

Could I ask you for a mod that only allows you to drain life (cure illness, add health to live longer or maybe immortality) or traits from your prisoners, if you are a witch?
All this using the game's already existing assets, without adding new traits, religions, game rules, etc?
If not, can I take your mod and do it, myself? :)

I didn't test it with an old game, but the new religion would not be compatible with old ones. This was a complete overhaul, with it having a new name and it's own family. This was necessary to fix the broken decision, reforming etc, and will be better of any improvements to the religion going forward.

@athene22 I tested in my game. Can still create new faith... but I already had a new faith and had to cheat to do it so I'm not sure.
