@velvet you often dont know multiple cities and towns well enough to carry a detailed map in your head of them. I know my way around State College if i stick to Athertin St and shit but past that IDK. Coupled with the fact that this is the 80s and your character should not start with that level of knowledge. I know of Philipsburg and have been there can get to a few landmarks but thats it. Hardly enough to consider the area revealed to me in the level of detail i would need to justify having complete knowledge like the map symbolizes. So your character has been up and down every st from Brandenburg to Louisville yeee right get real. You sound like one of those D&D players who while playing D&D want to be level 20 over night, know everything, have everything, etc

Is there a version of this mod or something similar for B42 for mp use

How about a traveler version where you know the immediate area around the spawn and the shortest route to edge of map via a road?

HOLY FUCK THANK YOU
i have wanted pretty much this EXACT MOD the entire time i've played zomboid!!!!

I'd passed on this initially since I don't often play challenge starts anyway, but the new version is really cool. Nice middleground between knowing everything and somehow not even knowing the street you spawned in on despite default spawn settings implying you lived there.

I think it'd also be neat to have a version that reveals all the major towns but not the whole map if that'd be possible. That way you could start knowing all the "important" stuff that a more well traveled person in the area might know, but not have knowledge of things like remote wilderness locations that you're supposed to explore to find. That said, I imagine it'd be the most niche and least used version, so it might not be worth the effort depending on how difficult that would be to set up.

Optional is fair enough, some still want to loot map for other town, as for me, im sticking with the full map review :cool_seagull:

sounds great, subscribed

After playing for a while and finding maps as loot multiple times, I've come to the conclusion that it indeed makes more sense not to reveal all map areas fully. Doing so would mean having to remove all lootable maps, as they would lose their value and become junk, which shouldn't be the case.

Therefore, starting with today's update, the mod will have two versions. The main version will be the one that only reveals knowledge of the town where the character could have potentially lived before, at the start of a new game. The second, optional version will continue to reveal all map areas without exception.

would be nice if there was a home town version of this that just revealed you spawn town. i know every crack of dubois my home town not, all of central PA
Manu 29 May @ 8:16am
what makes sense is having the region you spawn in revealed, you are supposed to live there, you should know your town. I always cheat spawn the map of the spawn area because it makes sense to me

Would be cool if there was a mod for in-between, not having your entire county memorized but at least knowing your hometown and the roads going in and out of it.

Gotcha!! Awesome! yeah idrc what other people say of me lol but I tend to use sandbox to make things harder. But I completely understand what your saying!
Quilava 21 May @ 12:15am
This is for non sandbox mode like survival/challenge mode, i dont do sandbox, just because it feel tempted to tweak thing more ez for you, survival mode on other hand, you have to cope with what you have, also it feel like the standard "normal difficult" for me

Dont want ppl laugh at you for "normal difficult too hard for ya, go play sandbox, noob" isnt it? That is how it feel :cta_emo10:
Jhitereptar 20 May @ 11:02pm
Sooo.. How is this different from the setting that shows you the map.? Or is this like for the other modes that aren't sandbox?
ELL 20 May @ 3:53pm
Oops- I forget that the sandbox options mod isn't part of the base game:tesiv_adoringfan:
Duncan E.  [author] 20 May @ 3:24pm
@ELL maybe that's why the description mentions twice that the mod won't work in sandbox mode, because a similar option already exists there? :ib_think:
Duncan E.  [author] 20 May @ 3:22pm
@Quilava yeah, me too :)
ELL 20 May @ 3:00pm
I believe there's a sandbox setting in the 'Character' section called 'Map Knowledge' you can check to get the entire map when you spawn.

Bro you reading my mind , it just make sense, i been waiting aged for mod like this :sad_seagull:
