well I mean once things go terribly wrong and all my research gets destroyed I'll have to work back up :steamhappy:

ITS NOT THAT HARD BUT SURE

THIS IS PERFECT FOR MY ANNOYINGLY HARD MOD PACK
man_of_belief 10 hours ago
can you make patches of research server acts like bookcase? i mean, bookcase that is filled with books provide research bonus, right?

it does not make sence when i have bunch of bookcases, i can get research but with more high-tech bookcases cannot get any bonus. this bothers me.
BookOfMike 9 Aug @ 12:01pm
I love the mod but, its brutal that every time i want to move the research server everything inside of it explodes out, Pack-able Containers doesn't work with this mod. Also for some reason i can't get my colonists to haul them back into the server, only my mechs will. Is this just a me problem?

@DuckGoosebear PrairieDogLover
Technically, probably. Practically? Not sure.

@Apokus
It's already on our to-do list, but my programmer has been busy with life - I think. I don't really wish to bother him anymore than I already have, let alone for yet another compatibility task. I might start taking up lead programming on the mod myself soon, allowing for some quicker development again, now that my Better Trees and Better Mountains mods have finally released.
Apokus 7 Aug @ 3:31pm
Heya, I've been enjoying the mod. However, I wanted to know if its possible to make a patch for Vanilla Psycasts Expanded(specifically, the reverse engineer psycast)? Because currently when you get the technology through the psycast(by destroying an item to give you tech that unlocks said item), you lose it afterwards(as no research paper is produced). Would be great if this could also be a mod option, but I am not sure if its even possible to do this. Great mod anyway, thank you for your time.
Think this would work with other research mods like life lessons mod?
Reprogrammed Automaton 5 Aug @ 12:03am
Could them being sell able be made an option? I understand the ballance concern in the FAQ, but it would kinda just be fun to start selling research as a colony of scientists rather then drugs.... agian...

The main intrinsic incentive is getting to build and defend libraries for increased gameplay, roleplay and immersion, just like you'd install Dubs Bad Hygiene with no expectation of extrinsic benefits either.

A minor extrinsic incentive is that filled bookcases speed up research, so your research speeds up future research.
Spinecone 4 Aug @ 8:23am
Does this mod add anything positive in exchange for the negative of having to secure your research notes, like the ability to find or steal Research Papers, or torture information out of people? Handling this wrong could be crippling, it seems strange there's no apparent incentive or payoff for sticking with it.
Terallis 1 Aug @ 2:22pm
So, something I've noticed at least, is that if you have the Research Server, it doesn't properly register as a hauling location. Pawns will passively grab one at a time when they feel like it, and bring it there, but with use of stuff like Pick Up And Haul, right-clicking shows as no valid location for them to be hauled to. The game itself also repeatedly screams about "No Storage Container" on the side.
Enrico  [author] 1 Aug @ 6:20am
No if a paper exists then everyone has access to it, no matter where it is.
Bode 1 Aug @ 5:05am
If all my research papers are in the gravship, when it launches will my planet base lose all research until the gravship comes back? I play with arcane technology mod so that would game breaking either way whether the papers are on the planet or on the gravship
Enrico  [author] 31 Jul @ 6:11pm
Go get em!
SalazarWindriver 31 Jul @ 6:11pm
so slight problem, I just added it and all the research spawned on the world where I have a grav anchor while I am in space.
Enrico  [author] 31 Jul @ 8:33am
I'll put it on the lengthy ideas list
SalazarWindriver 31 Jul @ 8:22am
Is it possible to have an option to prevent you from repairing something if you lost the research for it? It would be great to start with an advanced colony but have lost all the research and you have to relearn everything before your city turns to ruin.
Enrico  [author] 30 Jul @ 8:54pm
ye
RafaleMace 30 Jul @ 8:38pm
Probably has been asked already but wanna be sure. If you lose the research, you can relearn it, right?
Enrico  [author] 30 Jul @ 8:15am
@Eclipse @DraginZephyr Research the Research Server.
Eclipse 30 Jul @ 6:03am
Computer variant please ;)
тетеря, блин 30 Jul @ 5:27am
some random idea: catching a hi-tech enemy and extracting information about some tech. maybe even locking some tech this way, so you must catch them. good old johnny mnemonic vibes.
DragonZephyr 30 Jul @ 5:20am
How much space does this take up in research papers? Odyssey makes me worried more about space requirements then before. Would it be okay to have papers merged if its all from a section of ideas? Like Drug researches.
тетеря, блин 29 Jul @ 1:34pm
👌
Enrico  [author] 29 Jul @ 1:33pm
Haven't tried it myself, but also haven't heard of any conflicts, nor can I see why it would conflict.
тетеря, блин 29 Jul @ 1:32pm
is it compatible with semi-random research?
Enrico  [author] 29 Jul @ 1:20pm
@Kart, yes!
Kart 29 Jul @ 12:30pm
Can the pawns read the research papers as a form of recreation? :D
Renay Edor 29 Jul @ 10:51am
absolutely, this was the "lite" version I wish Research Data had, and I always forget to do research which is why I used Stored Research. I love that the papers count as books, makes having a nice lushious library for my colonists to enjoy and be proud of :D
Enrico  [author] 29 Jul @ 10:04am
Thank you for the report, I've added it to our lengthy to-do list!
Renay Edor 29 Jul @ 9:19am
Okay so, minor incompatibility and I don't know how easy it'd be to 'fix' on your end, but:
When you have "Stored Research" installed, and do a research while a pawn ISNT ON A BENCH, the papers get spawned at the world center, or scattered randomly if the world center is a deteriorating tile (water). When a pawn is on the table they seem to spawn at their feet just fine.

I know zip diddly squat about coding, butt, maybe you could add a check to see if there's a research bench when spawning papers, even if a pawn isn't at the research bench?
Enrico  [author] 28 Jul @ 10:03pm
Affected growing zones get reset
Golnor 28 Jul @ 7:13pm
@Factentium Whenever you research a project, it creates a book for that project, which you have to keep safe or you will lose the research. For an exmaple, let's say you complete the "beer brewing" research. That will create a book titled "Research papers: Beer brewing" which you casn store on a bookshelf. As long as you have that item on your map, you will be able to plant hops and build the brewing items. If a raider steals or burns the book however, you will lose the ability to plant hops or build the brewing items.

Or at least, that is what is supposed to happen. I'm not entirely sure how the mod handles growing zones.
Factentium 27 Jul @ 7:55pm
im confused on this mod works sorry? can you explain here aka dumb it down for me i am sorry this looks really cool.
Enrico  [author] 27 Jul @ 7:35pm
@zzMakoto
I'm not sure what you mean by "gaming advantage to holding the papers". The advantage is that you get to have your research, as long as you hold them.

Besides that, you can fill up bookcases with them, which speed up future research.
Profe Holan 27 Jul @ 4:44pm
A raid made me abandon my base and wanted to run with around 50 books which took around half my total carrying capacity. Maybe making them lighter would help with this kind of situations (note that I did not have any animals which could have helped). To your point, papers should be lighter than actual books
zzMakoto 27 Jul @ 4:22pm
interesting mod, but isnt it better if theres some gaming advantage by holding those papers?
Enrico  [author] 27 Jul @ 3:16pm
Glad you like it! The papers are based on books (or more specifically on schematics) and those are 0.5kg as well. Though I suppose papers (and schematics for that matter) realistically would be lighter than books. How many papers are you travelling with?
Profe Holan 27 Jul @ 2:49pm
I´ve been looking for a mod like this for years, thanks for giving birth to it!

Would you consider changing the weight of each book? Being 0.5kg makes it really hard to travel with them
Enrico  [author] 27 Jul @ 2:15pm
Yup, this is high on our to-do list.
Ishchyaboi 27 Jul @ 12:55pm
Would it be possible to, when a research paper is destroyed, have a low amount of progress reapplied to the research project(s)? People might vaguely remember how it works but need to re-learn its intricacies.
AbelPlumbob 27 Jul @ 7:18am
@Enrico No, and I just checked my modlist and there isn't any that I can think of that could maybe mess with that. I have some that add new researches, but that shoudn't make them appear as a reward, right?

Also, I suscribed and started playing with your mod on a new colony two days ago, so it should be the version in which it was fixed.
Enrico  [author] 27 Jul @ 6:56am
Do you have any mods that change quest rewards?
AbelPlumbob 27 Jul @ 6:50am
@Enrico It just happened to me when I posted my comment. I still have the quest available if you need to see anything about it.
Enrico  [author] 27 Jul @ 6:23am
@AdelPlumbob, is that bug still happening?
AbelPlumbob 27 Jul @ 5:38am
There's a quest called "Stash of Goodies" (I think it's from Odyssey, usually given by merchants when talked to) and research papers showed as the reward.

Love the mod, thanks for your hard work!
Enrico  [author] 26 Jul @ 7:21pm
I've added you as friend, you can send a DM with the file thanks!
Death 26 Jul @ 7:18pm
Absolutely, would be willing to help. How can I send it to you?
Enrico  [author] 26 Jul @ 6:31pm
Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the detailed report. A player log file could help if taken right after a session where a research paper spawns in that place.
