@Michał no, it is just an optional dependency that some mods need. It is separate from Ninja.

Some optional dependencies have moved out of Ninja. Things are now better separated. (Unfortunately) that means an additional requirement for some mods.

How come the Gothic 1 Community Patch lists this as a required item now? Why was it not before?

By itself it does nothing. I only provides some dependencies for other mods. You'll only need to subscribe to it if other mods need it. Examples of mods that need it: Autosave, Free Aiming, zComboFix, ... By itself the mod does nothing and has no effect on the game.
