Thanks for a fast reply. :) Sounds like a plan by letting some other mods take over a bit of your mod IF needed.
I will check out your posters as i was using the other one until you made you posters.

Cheers

@SubaruSwift, I set up this mod to allow for it's textures to be overwritten by other mods for this exact scenario. With both this mod and Atmospheric Posters installed, then Atmospheric Posters should win out in load order meaning English Zone will load first then Atmospheric Posters will load second which will add it's poster textures. So they are fine to use together assuming you prefer the posters from Atmospheric Posters.
Thanks for the kind words!

Nice, I always wondered what the graffities where saying. That Russian bots attempt at demoralization was also entertaining.
matiasapr30 4 Aug @ 12:01pm
jesus , thanks man i try this one tonight after work ... great focking job
Zoich 4 Aug @ 10:56am
@rbwadle I completely understand what you're saying. Half of my family currently lives in Ukraine, and I was born there myself. It is my homeland, and I love Ukraine. But I do not associate Ukraine with its government, which led the country into war. Just as I don’t associate Russia and its citizens with its leadership and political decisions.
Zoich 4 Aug @ 10:56am
A tremendous amount of effort has been invested on both sides to incite hatred toward each other — but that doesn’t work on me. For me, Ukraine and Russia are one: my family and friends live in both countries.

At one point, when I was already living in Russia, I returned to my hometown in Ukraine and studied at a local Ukrainian school. Back then, the teaching was still entirely in Russian, and Ukrainian was taught as a separate subject. I’ll never forget how my Ukrainian language teacher humiliated me in front of the whole class simply because I lived in Russia. That was back in the 1990s, long before the war. The hostility toward Russians began long ago, and sadly, for many years it has been instilled in the minds of young people.
Zoich 4 Aug @ 10:56am
Even now, I can’t understand the hatred directed at ordinary Russian people who never made political decisions — people who genuinely love Stalker. Russians had no power to stop these political events, just as Ukrainians couldn’t stop the events unfolding in their own country. It simply wasn’t possible.

GSC made the right call by not deliberately fueling hatred in the game. They didn't introduce a stereotypically “evil” Russian faction, nor did they include the kind of Russophobic content many were expecting. I suspect part of the reason is that Russian players make up a significant share of the game’s revenue — because there are a great many Russian fans of Stalker.
Zoich 4 Aug @ 10:56am
However, I believe it was a mistake to “neuter” the game out of hatred for Russians, removing parts of what gave the game its identity. Ukraine, like Russia, was part of the Soviet Union. The atmosphere of Stalker is rooted in post-Soviet decay — in its language, its symbolism, its cultural texture. The Soviet Union is not the same as modern Russia — and that distinction is crucial.

The Soviet Union is part of Ukraine’s own past. Erasing your history, pretending it never happened, is a poor decision — and history shows that such erasure never leads to anything good.

I sincerely hope this war ends as soon as possible, that people stop dying, and that hatred disappears. Because there is no real difference between Russians and Ukrainians.
Eternal 4 Aug @ 10:40am
That's the democracy you fight for, pathetic.
Eternal 4 Aug @ 10:39am
Russian localization of textures were deleted - due to reports
Soviet symbolics were removed - due to reports
This mod still going strong
Ironic

Games and mods should NOT be have any sort of politics, if you don't like it - don't play it.
rbwadle  [author] 3 Aug @ 12:44pm
@Zoich, for the record, I do not believe in removing any mod unless it is broken or malicious. Even so, I would not expect any Ukrainian to emotionally differentiate between the Russian State and the Russian People while living in constant fear. If my home was attacked by a bordering nation, I would be the first one lining up to march in and take out their leadership as well as anyone else who tried to impede me by force.
Your core point is a valid one. That being said, I was fully expecting GSC to go even farther and have one of the main threat factions in the game be some alternate universe version of the Russian Federation. I believe they showed more restraint than what most other studios would have exhibited.
In time, the wounds will heal and the discourse will soften, but until then I humbly request patience and empathy with your neighbor and to help ease their fear and anxiety in whatever way you can that doesn't make you a target within your own country.
Zoich 3 Aug @ 8:08am
Borahkreth, you've probably seen many similar comments — and there's a good reason for that. The truth is, what I'm saying resonates with a lot of people who feel the same way.
Decommunization in Stalker.? Seriously?
Cut out Soviet symbols, erase the Russian language and textures from a game set in the post-Soviet zone — and what's left of Stalker’s atmosphere?
Nothing. Just a parody of what fans have always loved — and what they'll now have to fix themselves.
And believe me, they will.
Because no one will care about the developers' resentment toward their own history.
Borahkreth 2 Aug @ 1:07pm
Zoich, I've seen this comment word for word countless times. Don't know if you're a bot or just a random guy copy pasting stuff, but that's ridiculous
Chad 2 Aug @ 11:34am
I wonder why that is
Zoich 2 Aug @ 11:18am
The removal of the mod featuring Russian textures by GSC once again highlights the degree of hostility and Russophobia in Ukraine — something that has already led the country to serious problems. It's truly unfortunate that the game developers chose to act this way. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a massive fan base in Russia, and many Russian players bought the game despite having the option to download it for free. I believe now, the number of people willing to pay will significantly drop.

Russian voiceovers, Russian textures, and Soviet symbols — all of these can easily be added through community modding sites. As always, it will be the fans who ultimately turn this raw version into the game it was truly meant to be.
rbwadle  [author] 30 Jul @ 6:45pm
Weapon repro will just be for word character translations. all other aspects of the textures will stay the same.
Inari the Kitsune 30 Jul @ 3:58pm
With the "Reproduction and modification of weapons", how will that work? is it going to be an IRL texture (like real G-36 and USP markings) or...?
IHaveBadWiFiBro 30 Jul @ 9:41am
i love this so much thank you author
SpicyMonkey 28 Jul @ 11:00pm
As much as I love the atmosphere of the original art, I feel way more immersed in the zone when I can read the signs.

Very helpful!
arghy 27 Jul @ 1:55am
Been wanting this for a long time! felt so bad looking at clearly some story driven stuff and being unable to understand it. Hopefully the devs add a subtitle option as i've actually been able to verbally differentiate ukranian from russian because of the audio i'd love to be able to eventually understand written ukranian from looking at it.
rbwadle  [author] 26 Jul @ 10:15pm
@StormTigrex. I can see what you mean. I am not above reverting or pulling back changes if it suits the general consensus. I rarely have taken significant artistic liberty in the repro-and-replace textures but for some reason -- maybe it was really late at night -- I just found that to be too funny and decided to keep it in. I think only that and one of the Spark Graffiti items are the only two where I significantly deviated from the style of the original.
StormTigrex 26 Jul @ 8:44pm
I only wish there was a version of the mod where the faction symbols didn't change along with the lettering. The Freedom symbol is frankly jarring. It's hard for me to complain about this since the author clearly put a lot of effort and love with every texture, but I'd just like to be able to read the thing, not change the way it looks.
Method Man 24 Jul @ 3:47pm
Thanks for this mod
ToJKa 21 Jul @ 11:22pm
I'm still hoping GSC implements grafiti subtitles. But until then, this works much better than trying to translate with a smartphone.
Borahkreth 21 Jul @ 1:54pm
THIS. This is exactly what I need for my next playuthrough if GSC never implements a subtitle feature. Thank you very much. Don't listen to the haters

@Unknown, Yes, all of the world graffiti including noontide pre-signal, monolith post-signal as well as Faust specific (these are the ones mostly written in blood) have been reproduced and are included in all versions of the mod.
Unknown Karma 21 Jul @ 10:36am
I am curious, out of all the textures replaced and translated, have you finished with the Monolith ones? I was so curious what they say after the Signal happens, especially written with blood. I guess i can imagine what but it feels like there's more to it.

Its good to hear it isn't as bad as I thought behind the scenes, a lot of good work went into this mod.
HootzMcToke 19 Jul @ 10:54pm
Yay, i can stop using my phone to translate shit. :gk_heart:
rbwadle  [author] 19 Jul @ 10:41pm
@sliver, I have actually got more praise from Ukrainians (Including GSC Employees) than I have misdirected hate. I believe most recognize the effort I took -- and am still taking -- to keep the original style and even introduce Cyrillic styled Roman characters where it doesn't hurt linguistic integrity. I am actually doing ton of research and taking advice from UA speakers -- whom I trust would tell me the truth.
Overall it doesnt really bother me that I get attacked -- I have pretty thick skin. I just dont like seeing people attack each other.
I think it is just a Steam thing. I never see this kind of misdirected entitlement or attempts to "bully" mod creators on any of the other platforms. I still have a ton of work to do and a bunch more translating before I am done here but I hope that by the time this mod is finished most recognize it for what it is, an attempt to improve the game's communication with non-UA speakers.
sliver 19 Jul @ 7:18pm
Like, sorry if my stance is incredibly reductionist because I am not Ukrainian and I am not in a war zone but using mods such as the soviet symbol reimplementation is not supporting russia, and my main point and the reason I am commenting in this thread in particular (Cause the soviet modpage got taken down) is that this mod is in no way replacing Ukrainian aspects of the game, there is an entire Ukrainian dub that people can use in tandem with this mod to make the game more accessible.
sliver 19 Jul @ 7:09pm
Nobody is fucking defending any first world nation that has destabilized every region in the world, you all are just reactionary af. I do not support russia, I do not support israel, I do not support the united states nor china, its common sense that removing symbols from a bygone time that fit the setting of the game and were originally intended to be in the final release in response to a war is a form of historical revisionism as well, even if it is in direct reaction to Russias historical revisionism of Ukrainian history and language. You wouldn't remove the swastikas from a wolfenstein game because modern day germany attacked your nation in the name of imperialism.

Removing and taking down content that makes the game more immersive as well as accessible in the case of this mod (Nobody has actually threatened this mods existence, its just angry Ukrainians for now, just saying though) is exactly why video game companies are taking a hard dive into corporate degeneracy
smittywarbenjagermanjensen 19 Jul @ 12:43pm
Since the Zone has a lot of international people in it now, this helps with immersion. Nice!
carl 19 Jul @ 11:52am
Amazing work! Thanks a lot mate!

I wish the DEVs would implement a subtitle feature for the graffiti and signs sometime soon, in the meantime I'll resort to this
APHedward 19 Jul @ 9:01am
@Destillat Not really relevant to the conversation lmao.
Destillat 19 Jul @ 8:51am
> nobody is denying russias crimes against humanity

but all you are sitting with your tongues up your ass when it comes to americans crime against humanity
sliver 19 Jul @ 2:40am
its clear that the devs and ukrainian community are taking a hard stance on history erasure by eradicating the soviet symbols mod, idgaf if it used assets from a build of the game, it was the intended vision for the game before they doubled down on the hypocrisy, nobody is denying russias crimes against humanity, but the soviet union and Russia are two entirely different entities in our real world and in the stalker universe. The soviet union; a coalition which no longer exists and built all the infrastructure we see in modern day Chernobyl. And Rouken you are doing the same with the criticism of this mod, people can enjoy their games however they intend and a shit ton of work has already gone into this replacing textures, so make that mod yourself if subtitles overlayed on the screen which ruin immersion is your cup of tea.
APHedward 18 Jul @ 4:02pm
@Rokuen, It's not that serious, you don't have to sub to this mod nor support it. The goal of it isn't to support "erasure", it's simply a way for non-Ukrainian speakers to understand signage. It's just a mod...
Rokuen 18 Jul @ 12:22pm
@banansneffaren its not pathetically. its about "why you use that way? not other option like sub in fallout?"
like, give you _context_.
right now russians burns us books, replacment any language for erace us, for "undertand all" .
and you must have respect and understanding for people whose country is currently at war.

DO SUB, NOT REPLACEMENT.
please.

also for @amscova you have UA dub. and their main. Not ENG.
Rokuen 18 Jul @ 12:11pm
I reflected a little and will add something. As long as you change the names of factions, places, and names of settlements, it will be appropriation. Because there is a difference between a theoretical stalker who could write this to help a colleague and changing the name of the military-industrial complex and its emblem.
like... there are signs in the city that literally say about an official Ukrainian institution. you want replace it too?

in general in Ukraine most of the direction signs are duplicated, not replaced.
banansneffaren 17 Jul @ 5:25am
I agree with Lezen. Complaining about something that isn't even their concern what so ever and is literally just an (option) for us others that don't understand Ukrainian. Honestly you guys are acting pathetically. Thanks for this amazing mod knowning the amount of effort put into it
Lezen 17 Jul @ 1:47am
People complaining about this mod breaking immersion know they can not subscribe right? For fuck sake.
Amscova 16 Jul @ 6:03pm
As for me, if the game can have English speaking (Scottish accented Ukrainians for some reason too?) The graffiti and signs may as well be in English too.
Amscova 16 Jul @ 6:00pm
I hate to change it because of the setting and context of the game, but for once I can read the in game graffiti? Yup. Good work!
Brother Læknishendr 15 Jul @ 4:43pm
Location-wise a bit weird but also a very good idea. I can't read/speak anything Ukrainian so it would be fun to do a playthrough where i could understand these writings and not just imagine/guess what's said.
real_mitya 15 Jul @ 2:05pm
"Brothers get hugs, Wardens get slugs" - well that could still work, of course, but lore-wise that text refers to the words said by Snake during the Ward takeover of the Chemical Plant, which are "Thieves rule, Wardens drool" officially (as said in a cutscene). So it is implied those words were written by Sparkers, which may be an important detail that might get lost in translation if you change it.

It is "thieves" because "братки" means "brothers" but in a criminal context specifically. Interestingly, that phrase carried over from way earlier in the development. We can see it written on a wall in the E3 2021 trailer where Skif fights bandits at the Chemical Plant. Perhaps the Ward was originally supposed to take it from bandits instead of Spark. In the release version, maybe it implies Snake had a criminal background before joining Spark, who knows.

So yeah, that's the context for that phrase, it is kind of confusing though, so decide for yourself, could work either way.
