Terrains:
No, you don't need a special program for the terrains. You create the mod like normal (folder with mod name in AoE\mods, including all folder structure from within the AoE folder itself to be able to place each modded file at the same location inside your mod folder as it resides in the AoE folder). Then you name your png like the terrain you want to replace and that's it.
Keep in mind the png is rotated 45° against the clock and swaged ingame - just in case this is important for your images look. The image also gets resized to 512x512 px ingame, so either use that size or one that can be resized to it without beeing streched.
For a thumbnail image place a jpg named preview-icon.jpg in the mod folder.
While I know how to do them, when I tried last I got some technical issues (player colors resulting in static colors). After that I was so busy with terrains and graphics not containing player colors, I never gave this issue another try. So it would have to be something I really want to do to make me take another look - especially now that I'm super busy updating all my mods to AoR...
Do you make unit reskins?
The terrains are plain png files.
Other graphics are bmps stored in slp files - to edit them you need a tool like turtle pack.
While I didn't update the uploading part for now, this is described in my modding guide.
Uploading is less intuitive if you don't know what to do that before 4.0, but not difficult too.
Will be done soon.
I spoke to morness about this and the icons you can see beside the mods now are a first (small) step towards what we came up with for the still to be implemented overhaul.
I hoped this would be done days ago - but as you can see there are many other issues too - and game breaking bugs are more important than optimizing the mod manager. But morness said to come back to it at the end of this or beginning of the next week. So I'm looking forward to upgrade all my mods at the end of the next week!
Weiter so :)
Schön das es dir gefällt.
I'll upload it this evening or tomorrow.
By clicking the subscribe thing it didn't seem to do anything. When I tried it had no effect. Only opon downloading the thing from depositfiles. But since my files got erased and I tried again, it was a shame that the link got broken.
That's everything there is to say. Excuse me again, I'm quite exhausted.
That's no mod, it's the normal castle of the south american graphic set,or the wonder of one of the south american civs. :)
Practically the subscription system is a bit buggy from time to time and mod downloads don't start.
Beside this the updating is buggy as hell and mods don't get updated most of the time although steam says the updating was successfull.
Therefore you can add an external link, don't do any updates at all, or you need to create whole new mod loosing all comments and ratings.
So a lot of people decide to add external links. I already thought about adding a functionality for this to my mod manager.
This is pretty uncool for you need to check for updates manually, but in case the official system is broken you need to find a workaround. ;)
So there will be external links all the time I suppose.
What do you mean by 'the link works'? I meant clicking the subscribe button, doesn't it download the original flames mod like normal?
I am afraid that by putting such links they will die sooner or later and others won't be able to use the mod because of that.
That's why I'm asking if it's possible to avoid downloads to external sights entirely.
(Is the subscription not working too? Would have thought the external link was just an alternative?)
Is it possible to make another mod like this without that download to an external source?
You can try to trigger the download by starting the game or verfying your game cache or restarting steam.
What can also cause this is steam messing up your subscriptions for it never deletes mod archives of unsubscribed mods automatically. Go to AoE\mods and delete all mods your aren't using anymore.
Kast AoE seems to have a mod limit for active mods. I experienced no new mods were taken into account when having 30 active mods before unsubscribing from a few. Use maps for this for they won't be deleted automatically, so you can use them after unsubscribing.
Thanks.
@Versian
Ah v5 - I tried some new things with that, but the addition of more changed objects and some terrains like the new desert were requested to be removed, so I changed back to the former format of full packs and terrain structures with v6.
The good thing about it was that v5 was the pack with the most contentual/critical feedback. ;) And you really need feedback like that for improvements.
@Anderson
Thanks. :)
There are already several fire mods available:
Original Flames
Enhanced Flames
Enhanced Flames with HD flame colors
American Conquest Flames
Or maybe make similar ones at any rate. That's the only thing I need!
But glad you like it. :)
Thanks a lot! Glad you like it.
@Versian
There is the same pack without the flooding available, just in case. ;)
May I ask which one you are using?
@count dregula
I needed an introductory line...
Hidden Path didn't implement any uninstalling functionality for mods into AoE2HD. :(
In case a mod changes original game files, you can do a workaround by verifying your game cache. This changes ALL files back to default and then reinstalls all still subscribed mods - you have 'uninstalled' the unsubscribed one.
But AoE2s new moddind system wants you to add new files in most cases. All these files remain until you dete them manually. This means the new cutting down graphics from my crystal trees remain for this mod doesn't change them assuming you still use the default ones.
After unsubscribing from the crystal ones, before verifying, delete your slp folder (it will be reloaded when verifying) to remove the now unwanted graphics.
Then subscribe to this mod.
Alternativly take a look at my mod manager. :)
(It can only handle mods also installed using it, but allows you to organize your mods with just a few clicks.)
I actually thought about more green for some kind of alien texture. ;)
But these puddles are clearly the same blue as the water.
