the witchcraft part isn't true, it's actually an endothermic reaction (who would've guessed). an endothermic process is a process that absorbs energy from its surroundings, usually heat, and in the case of this fire, making the surrounding area colder

You should add config to choose how much log, ice, stone, blue gem, nitre, or cut grass you should need to craft these fires and at which magic station you can craft them, if they burn ice, nitre, and/or normal burnables, and if there should be an insanity aura.

Good idea! Could you possibly remove nitre as fuel and add ice and blue gems as fuel? Maybe also have a slight insanity aura? Config would be nice

its an exothermic reaction between to chemicals that takes in heat energy

even so it doesn't have to be a "fire" it can be a vapor of water from the cold even!
Face 21 Jul, 2015 @ 8:54pm
that probably sounded stupid but please try
Face 21 Jul, 2015 @ 8:54pm
then how about make a new model and make the cold "fire" a small (dug hole for fire tank for fire pit) of dry ice/liquid nitrogen/giant cold pack?

The "witchcraft" portion is that it's a fire that removes heat. While chemical reactions that absorb heat exist, combustion exclusively releases heat. The concept of a "cold flame" simply doesn't exist.

i dont want to insult but, i cringed when i read "witchcraft" because it isn't. but i don't want to explain how it isn't because im lazy and i can't remember completely. :p well all im gonna explain is i know that it works by two chemicals mixing and taking more energy to generate less. something like that i damn forgot don't question me dang it!

Ever had one of those instant cold packs? An endothermic reaction can readily cool you down. If you want realisem, maybe make the endothermic fire enclosed. Since you can burn a fire to more or less directly reduce heat, with the right sort of heat exchange machine.

Okay so it turns out changing what counts as fuel is really complicated, since whether or not an item can be used as fuel is considered part of the item, rather than the thing that accepts it. I did put Nitre back in the recipe though.

Hmmn, you could do something sneaky. You could get rid of normal endothermic fires, and add in a new item, that is skinned as an endothermic fire but has different properties, such as it only accepts ice, nitre, or other things as fuel, and put it in the magic tab. This may be a bit hard, but it would let you do much more customisation, then just changing the endothermic fires that already exist. Anyways, hope to see this mod evolve :p

I know what endothermic reactions are, but the idea of a fire that cools you down is clearly straying a bit into the realm of fantasy. Keeping Nitre in the recipe or changing the fuel options are both interesting ideas, though I'm not sure how feasible the latter is.

Sorry for my nerdgasm below :p

WALL OF TEXT AHEAD! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Endothermic reactions aren't witchcraft. An endothermic reaction is a reaction that takes more energy to create bonds with atoms rather than bonds destroyed, so it takes in more energy, in the form of heat. An exothermic reaction is the opposite. Either way, nice mod. I feel that summer is too easy with an ice fingomatic and endothermic fire pit. You may want to keep nitre in the recipe, because nitre is pretty much useless. You could also make it so that you can't just any fuel, because that makes no sense, considering how endothermic reactions work. :) If you have read this far, you deserve a cookie :p

I like the idea! The Endothermic Fires have always bothered me the way they are, making summer way too easy. I would maybe put nitre back in the recipe instead of stone because theres plenty of uses for stone already but not many for nitre. Or you could change what can be used as fuel, removing wood and grass for example and maybe adding ice which would max the fire out instantly.

This is just purely to make the game harder, so I don't realistically expect most people will want it.

no thanks ill pass
