Last updated 2016? It's 2021. Does this still work?
Killphase 25 Jun, 2021 @ 11:52am
so the Black Mesa soundtrack will still be able to play at some map triggers?
Replicant 1 Nov, 2020 @ 9:15am
Any chance of this mod seeing an update? The beta of the difinitive version was just released recently, so maybe when that comes out would be the best time to revisit making updates to this mod?
Torbulous 2 Apr, 2020 @ 11:09am
I would like to install this mod, but I think it's not updated? Is there anything I can do to get it working?

@Keltur . Black Mesa Xen is finally released into the public. Not Beta Anymore. Now you can update the rest of Half-Life 1 Music to Xen!
Squishy 9 Dec, 2019 @ 9:42am
I think this broke again with the latest complete beta update. snd_restart doesn't seem to make HL1 music play. Rather the BM:S music just keeps playing.
Keltur  [author] 16 Nov, 2019 @ 11:17am
@Code-C: Aye, I can do that. I haven't looked at Black Mesa in a long time; I'm sure there's a lot of things I need to re-visit.
[BOOM] Dr. Gordon Freeman Ph.D. 2 Nov, 2019 @ 11:13pm
@Keltur . Can you add more Half-Life 1 music when Black Mesa: Xen is completely released. Xen is still in beta developement for right now because of bug & issues to the game & also earth levels like the vent, error success glitch in the pipes & the cliff level in the chapter Surface Tension.
1v4n94 28 Jun, 2019 @ 11:16pm
@Jetski
That's because the audio system gets restarted, aka snd_restart in the console
jet 21 Dec, 2017 @ 10:50am
(This worked for me hopfully others as well) If you go into audio options and just switch speaker configuration to somthing you dont use then switch back the mod works. I have to do this evey time I launch the game from desktop. Imo its worth the effort, much better music. thx Keltur

Drums and Riffs does not play when you launch the rocket in the chapter "On A Rail". I've done snd_restart, as well.
Gasmask citizen 24 Nov, 2017 @ 10:39am
does it still work?

Oh god where is the download link? Im probably missing something obvious but please someone help me?
Leviticus 3 Dec, 2016 @ 4:34pm
Working now.
Keltur  [author] 3 Dec, 2016 @ 1:59pm
I just re-uploaded this. If music still does not play, quick save and type "snd_restart" in the console prior to the music trigger, then load that quick save. The music should now play when then triggered.

Also, the music played upon picking up the Tau cannon should be the same one from Half-Life 1.
Leviticus 2 Dec, 2016 @ 11:50pm
I'm just getting no music.
Dr. SourceCode 8 Sep, 2016 @ 6:17pm
It's fine if you don't change the maps. It's just that there was one music que you replaced with this mod for when you pick up the tau cannon. It plays the wrong music. I mean something like that. I mean have the music play in their original spots like that. You don't have to alter the maps.
Keltur  [author] 8 Sep, 2016 @ 5:23pm
Unfortunately, the effort required to make Black Mesa's music order (and location) closely reflect that of the original Half-Life would involve modifying the game's levels. Doing that would make my mod incompatible with any other mods that also modify the map files. But not only that, it would also make my mod incompatible with any future official Black mesa patches that contain level changes (the game would break badly). I would rather lean on the side of avoiding all that and just modify the music files.

Also--sadly--the Black Mesa Publishing for publishing Black Mesa Workshop mods is not working, and hasn't been for a while. So even if I wanted to update this mod, I can't. Sorry.
Dr. SourceCode 8 Sep, 2016 @ 5:00pm
Hi.it's been awhile. May you please update this to contain the music in valve's original order? Thanks
Keltur  [author] 28 Jun, 2016 @ 6:09pm
I would update this mod and fix the issues, but the Black Mesa publishing tool is failing to start up for me. Unfortunately, I might not be able to do anything with this mod until the next Black Mesa patch.
Squishy 28 Jun, 2016 @ 3:23pm
I played up until we've got hostiles without any music. Seems to be in every chapter.
Nixel 28 Jun, 2016 @ 1:17pm
It seems to have trouble reading OGG files. Something about a missing MP3 decoder? Anyway, here's the error that I get spammed in my console, accompanied by a lack of music:

Failed to create decoder for MP3 [ music\bms - oar1.ogg ]

This was, obviously, in On a Rail. I also have the problem in all other chapters so far, this is just where I happened to be when commenting this.
Squishy 9 Jun, 2016 @ 1:52pm
Am I the only one who's music isn't working anymore?
Krünchy Zeirus 11 Oct, 2015 @ 4:17am
Cool mod. Loved the originals music. While I don't hate Black Mesa's music there's just too much piano for my taste. Thx for this...:happy_creep:
CluckenDip 26 Jun, 2015 @ 11:19pm
So it's most/every track replaced with HL1's? Cool!
Dr. Slapnutz 28 May, 2015 @ 4:52pm
Just in case something does happen, I'm gonna make a copy of it and put it in another folder.
Keltur  [author] 28 May, 2015 @ 4:30pm
Yes.
Dr. Slapnutz 28 May, 2015 @ 2:36pm
So just delete it, start the game, and everything should be fine?
Keltur  [author] 28 May, 2015 @ 1:20pm
That actually didn't create a new cache file. It looks like you'll have to delete it manually, which I guarantee you is very easy and not dangerous. You just have to go to steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/addons/workshop and delete the file called 443379645.vpk.sound.cache . Boot your game back up and that file will be recreated. The song should play normally then.
Keltur  [author] 26 May, 2015 @ 10:49pm
I just changed the name of my vpk, so that should automatically recreate a new sound.cache for you.
Dr. Slapnutz 26 May, 2015 @ 9:25pm
That whole sound.cache thing sounds a little dangerous. I have a tendency to screw these kinds of things up...badly.
Keltur  [author] 26 May, 2015 @ 11:51am
About the Xen track playing in BP: I agree, but only in the case that Xen were actually playable. Since Xen is not yet released, I'll have the track playing at that part since it's currently the only opportunity to hear that song, which happens to fit in with the surroundings where it plays fairly well (and no music played there in HL1 anyways, so it's not really inconsistent).

Once Xen is released, I'll switch out the track.
Keltur  [author] 26 May, 2015 @ 11:42am
I don't know what's causing your issue with the QE track; I can't replicate the problem. One thing I may suggest is for you to go into your workshop folder in steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/addons and delete all the sound.cache files. When you boot your game up, all the cache files will be re-created, and it may fix your glitch.
Dr. Slapnutz 26 May, 2015 @ 10:24am
Also I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but the QE track is still ending too early.
Dr. Slapnutz 26 May, 2015 @ 6:09am
Hey, one more thing I need to comment on. I think the track at the beginning of Blast Pit when you go down the elevator (or ladders if you choose) should be changed. It's the same track that plays when you first enter Xen in Half-Life. So it's probably going to be a little weird that two of the same tracks are going to be repeated in the game. I suggest using another ambient HL2 track.
451 Observant Sky 23 May, 2015 @ 12:43am
Ok, I'll try this, thanks mate :)
Keltur  [author] 22 May, 2015 @ 2:51pm
You can also get any personal mod working by adding a line to the top of the search paths in gameinfo.txt to read from some other folder(s).
Keltur  [author] 22 May, 2015 @ 2:50pm
I believe any mod in the addons folder only works if it's contained within a vpk (i.e., directly inside the vpk are folders like sound, models, etc).
451 Observant Sky 22 May, 2015 @ 12:28pm
How did you get your sound replacement to work ? I tried to make one myself but it dosen't work IG (I created a mod folder in addons, then in this folder, i copied the "style" of tree of the bms folder (addons/mod/sound/music/) )My sounds are in OGG and the names are correct..
Dr. Slapnutz 17 May, 2015 @ 9:08pm
It starts to, but then it just abruptly cuts off. Maybe going near the Grunt tube has something to do with it.
Keltur  [author] 17 May, 2015 @ 8:34pm
It seems to be playing completely for me. It's "Dark Piano Short" with a duration of around 19 seconds. Is it ending in-game for you on a high-pitched note?
Dr. Slapnutz 17 May, 2015 @ 8:20pm
Ok I took a look at the Questionable Ethics piece I was talking about. Good news, it's the right track now, thanks. Bad news, the last few seconds seem to be cut off for some reason, if you can fix it somehow, that would be very much appreciated.
Dr. Slapnutz 17 May, 2015 @ 7:46pm

Keltur  [author] 17 May, 2015 @ 3:37pm
Updated.
Keltur  [author] 17 May, 2015 @ 3:01pm
I apparently missed an Apprehension piece too. Accidentally left the HL1 song in the wrong format.
Keltur  [author] 17 May, 2015 @ 1:48pm
Now that you mention it, I actually do have a short HL1 track playing there, but it's the wrong one. I'm going to correct that. Also, I think I'll make another effort to replace as many of the HL2 tracks as well with some of the HL1 shorts.
Dr. Slapnutz 17 May, 2015 @ 1:14pm
What about the part in Questionable Ethics when you first see the Alien Grunt, Half-Life did have a track in there, albeit much shorter.
Keltur  [author] 16 May, 2015 @ 6:51pm
The Half-Life 2 pieces play in spots where music didn't play originally in Half-Life 1. I chose ambient HL2 pieces for those places because I wasn't able to find a HL1 song that aesthetically fit any of those areas.
