For some reason, enabling this (Alexios I) mod disables the Michael VIII one.

Oh, hold up. An update around an hour ago. Good to know that you still maintain the good ol' Civ 5 mods. Time to see if that bug is done for.
Terrorxide 19 Apr, 2020 @ 9:55am
I have the golden age issue stefvanwoensel mentioned too. Using the Megas Domestikos to build a citadel also just spawns another MD.
Lucius, the Heavenly Dragon 18 Apr, 2020 @ 4:51pm
I like the Megas Domestikos.
Cee 17 Apr, 2020 @ 11:51pm
Put varegue guard back please!!
Stef 16 Apr, 2020 @ 11:45am
The Megas Domestikos also spawns for other civs than Byzantium. Have mod loaded (but not playing with or against Alexios) and as soon as I get a Golden Age a Megas Domestikos appears in my capital.

I agree with Jarl. Plus, swordsman is a too early unit.
Seósaidh MacEanruig 9 Dec, 2016 @ 5:13pm
I feel like the Varangian Guard should replace longsword men. Partially because both the R.E.D. and Ethnic units mods have terrible byzantine longsword models.

@ekid memeb xDDD

Lol, the ERE broke away from the WRE? Stop, you are giving me a fucking brain aneurysm.

@Irradiated Gamer

Calling Byzantium 'Roman Empire' is a big mistake because when people think of the Roman Empire, they think of the Western Roman Empire and not the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) when they broke away from the Western Roman Empire. Calling them 'Byzantium' makes them more distinct from the Western Roman Empire and it's also a more common name than 'Eastern Roman Empire'
DemonDino 15 Sep, 2015 @ 3:01pm
I think you mean roman empire, Right?
Chrisy15 10 Aug, 2015 @ 10:29am
JFD, your mods are amazing, but I would point out that this mod doesn't work with the MM [forums.civfanatics.com] because it contains SQL, despite the fact that you've mentioned it in the description. Just before anyone gets their hopes up...
MediocreTactician 9 Aug, 2015 @ 4:31am
pls add justinian thx bye :steamhappy:
axatoramus 3 Aug, 2015 @ 12:59pm
Awsome civ! But ...

When I want to make a game in the YnAEMP setup screen, only modded civs appear and no default civ 5 civs!!!

What could be going on???

Help would be much appreciated!
White Shadow 27 Jul, 2015 @ 4:33pm
I like the concept of this Civ, but I am a bit confused as to the UA. What does it mean by "...the larger the enemy?" How is this measured? Number of cities? Population? Military might? Anyone know? Thanks! ^^
Paper Titan 14 Jul, 2015 @ 8:31pm
Nothing happens when i declare war. Any ideas?
Basileus Herakleios Komnenos 14 Jul, 2015 @ 9:31am
what's the soundtrack's name of the war theme of alexios I, i don't know

Brilliant vanilla byzantine changes. It's way better than the silly "free shrine" business because it still requires careful play to make the most out of.

A question regarding it, though. On immortal/deity, would beelining Theology be more effective, or would would rushing Hanging Gardens still be ideal? Since Hanging Gardens is OP and synergizes with the new UB. Plus, on immortal/deity even with a Theology beeline there tend to be 3~ religions already founded by then.

(Then again, wide is better for religion, and Tradition isn't good for going wide :V)
Harold 19 Jun, 2015 @ 7:32pm
byzantium in now playable for victories that are not sacred sites
Pilatian 16 Jun, 2015 @ 4:59am
This can still build Dromons as well as Triremes.
darthdoman 10 Jun, 2015 @ 5:54am
I think there's wrong Stoudion historical info written, it's about turkish baths not monastery.

JFD  [author] 7 Jun, 2015 @ 8:43pm
@jessebigfoot Yes, but that would be a human exploit; not something the AI could do. If someone wants to play a game according to its exploits, then power to them.
GuardingGuards 7 Jun, 2015 @ 7:21pm
This seems like it could be OP considering you could declare war against someone on the opposite side of the map from you and get a golden age without them being able to get to you and inflict damage.
JFD  [author] 7 Jun, 2015 @ 8:23am
@kylag You know what, you're actually right - I went over and counted about 8/48 civs are golden-age based. I'll try to keep it in mind. The next couple of civs aren't golden age-based at least.

Definitely not abandoned. The next two civs + Alexios are consequential to the development of the scenario, although it's too big to go up on steam, so you'll have to keep an eye out on Reddit/CivFanatics.
Insurgent Korrah 7 Jun, 2015 @ 1:09am
The Communsit Kurd Gamer, that was 700 years before the capital moved to Byzantium, lol. times changed. it is like to say tanks are only british that used to kill germans
onnorgs 6 Jun, 2015 @ 11:17pm
Looking nice, i can't wait to try
JFD  [author] 6 Jun, 2015 @ 7:42pm
@Gary Busey the last golden age-based trait I did was three civs ago :/
Hudson 6 Jun, 2015 @ 3:29pm
jfd, your great at modding, but could you stop basing everything off golden ages '_'
Endan-Shoresh 𒂗𒆗-𒋩𒌍 6 Jun, 2015 @ 8:57am
but clibraniis and cataphract where persians and were used to kill greek hoplites
:(bad englich
Venusaisha 5 Jun, 2015 @ 4:16pm
nah i like Byzantium that already in game.
amelia 5 Jun, 2015 @ 4:09pm
I'm liking the Theodora change, its a pretty interesting buff.
Savoyer 5 Jun, 2015 @ 10:22am
I wished that you made a Four Units Pack for vanilla (+DLC) civs with all your units or bulding.
Roellie Safari 5 Jun, 2015 @ 7:45am
Great mod, but wouldn't justinius fit better since he almost restored the roman empire
Armorguy1 5 Jun, 2015 @ 7:09am
You misspelled "Reckless" (your verion was "Wreckless")
Derek 4 Jun, 2015 @ 11:35pm
The word "sanctuary" is misspelled in Alexios's friendly greeting.
Max 4 Jun, 2015 @ 8:11pm
Alexios just called me a strumpet temptress as a male leader (a modded in one... Akbar from that indian civs pack).... not sure if he has gendered dialogue or whatever
Garuda 4 Jun, 2015 @ 11:09am
As a huge nerd on the Eastern Romans, Im so glad you decided to add this. However, I have a question for you: Why did you add the dromon as the unique unit when the Komnenian army's biggest strength was the infantry?
omanaz 4 Jun, 2015 @ 8:07am
thx
JFD  [author] 4 Jun, 2015 @ 7:02am
@omanaz I will be adding support for Wish for the World as I go through updates, yeah.
omanaz 4 Jun, 2015 @ 6:36am
hello i am a huge fan of your mods so i play with alot of them in my civ game. I really like the fact that you added wish for the world and was wondering if you will add that to existing mods or future mods. Thx
Venusaisha 3 Jun, 2015 @ 10:07pm
i like this one better then tarcisiom one. thou everybody has sometihing. 8)
Tim Walz's Horse 3 Jun, 2015 @ 4:37pm
EIther one would be fine for me bt Alexios was emperorer after the Roman Empire fell during the beginning of the medieval era.
moe 2 Jun, 2015 @ 2:24pm
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the release of Byz is foreshadowing a release of a Fall of Rome Deluxe scenario :D
Tim Walz's Horse 2 Jun, 2015 @ 12:37pm
Please make into the renaissance deluxe
Ixor 2 Jun, 2015 @ 6:07am
Theodora seems to get Alexios' succession decision.
