i got an idea for an overlay

You can skip the part on how to create your own overlay, just start at 4:49.

In short: You'll have to add a track to the 'Effects' channel in the timeline (below 'Picture' and 'Sound'), select 'Material Overlay', click 'Show in Element Viewer' for your material overlay, and set 'hashtagmc\macrobinoculars1.vmt' as value for the 'material' textfield.

any help to take this to a use? I dont know shit about overlays and google isnt helping at all
