I'll edit the thing about the pepper plants.
Regarding Bolkiah's ancestry, I'm still a little bit skeptical of the claim considering in general early Bruneian history is sketchy and Islamised to an extent, but I'll change my wording to "apparently" rather than alleged.
Thanks alot for this information!
I jumped into the game and checked the updated civilopedia. I have no complaints on Bolkiah's page. However, the two new things added to the factoid, I would like to have some words on that.
1) The practice of planting pepper plants was only carried out during Bolkiah's rule. Any subsequent rulers after him did not continue this practice.
2) Bolkiah is the descendant of Sultan Sharif Ali (he was an arabian) and Sharif Ali is the direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through Hasan ibn Ali Saidina Hassan. (Wikipedia listed this in their page)
You can also check this website: (I know you might think it's unreliable but it has pretty much the same content as what I can find in government textbooks)

Updated
I'd didn't put too much consideration into making it a purely coastal tile, also CL's Malaysia has roughly the same unique component only with somewhat different abilities, and it is built on the coast.
Hey, it's me again! I wanna say that I really like the mod but there is one thing that's bugging me a little.. Why is the unique improvement (Kampong Ayer) built on land? And not on coast tiles? Is it because of script limitations or something else?
Also, a suggestion for a unique unit (for 3rd/4th unique components mod perhaps?), the Lantaka as a cannon unit replacer :). Perhaps with improved mobility/less strength and also a unique ability that gives +3 culture & +3 faith per turn when the unit is stationed in a city. (To reflect its widespread use for ceremonial and religious purposes)
I'm sorry in advance if I'm pushing it too far.
I will be sure to update the civ when I have time, thanks for your help!
Continuation:
4) He was a direct decedent from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This is a fact not a hoax.
5) Last but not least, if you ask a well-educated bruneian, "Who is Sultan Bolkiah?" They would answer, "The fifth Sultan of Brunei." :)
Steam only allows 1000 character per comment. So, sorry about the multiple posts.
Continuation:
3) In Brunei, the tale of his death has become a very well-known legend (There are many versions of this). But one of the most popular version goes:
"It is said that Puteri Lela Menchanai appeared to Sultan Bolkiah from the ocean foam (she literally appearead in the middle of the ocean, covered in foam) while he was sailing around Sulu. Captivated by her beauty, he asked for her hand in marriage. While on another voyage, Lela Menchanai was sewing with a golden needle as Sultan Bolkiah laid down on her lap. Sultan Bolkiah fell asleep, causing her to panic and accidentally prick his hand with the needle. Unknown to her, the golden needle was poisonous, which in turn, killed the Sultan. Lela Mechanai regretting what she did, plunged into the sea and drowned a short while after."
As per the civilopedia of Sultan Bolkiah, It seems alright. However, there are a few things you might have missed out; In Brunei, there is a general consensus about Bolkiah that:
1) He frequently travelling around the Malay archipelago for a few reasons:
(i) To gain new ideas to develop Brunei better (this is already mentioned in civilopedia)
(ii) To conquer new lands and expand Bruneian Empire
(iii) To spread Islam in conquered areas
(iv) To grow pepper plants in conquered areas (as to mark any newly obtained Brunei territory, similar to how some animals would leave claw marks on the bark of trees to mark their territory and warn others)
2) He is given the title of "Nakhoda Ragam" which translates into "Singing Captain" for his love of art, antiques and music.(If you google "Nakhoda Ragam" it won't really help you much because the name is widely used to name modern battleships. So pictures of battleships would appear instead)
Very strange, this is the page I am talking about
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sultans_of_Brunei
If you have anything you want me to add to the civilopedia about Bolkiah, feel free to tell me, I couldn't find much information on him and thus the civilopedia is rather scant.
I've seen some conflicting sources regarding this, the Wikipedia page claims he is the 5th Sultan, but he appears to be the 6th on a chronological list of Sultans.
ima derp i got what was wrong figered out
What other mods are you using?
Is it definitely installable when you load up the game, with the green tick?
Yes, but it once controlled an Empire that covered the whole coastline of Borneo, parts of the modern phillipines/Indonesia and outlying islands.
I dunno, it's referred to as an Empire an awful lot.
What mods are you using?
i posted it to my steam profile if you can see it there
i am using other mods and that is most likely the issue, but i wouldnt kow how to fix something like that.
You can try uploading the screenshot to imgur
What other mods are you using? It's possible there's a conflict and the game is using the spearman model as like a substitute.
btw i love this civ
It is a graphical glitch, sorry for the misleading message :c
I have a screenshot but i dont know how to post it
I got most of my info from the wikipedia pages "History of Brunei" and "Bruneian Empire", I got some of it's very "early history" from a site about the ancient legends of Brunei. Unfortunately their history is very poorly documented, and so my sources of info were rather rudimentary and limited, sorry.
@TitoLounge
Is this a graphical glitch? Or just an observation XD
The Cumans, and I've two other civs in development atm, as well as a civ I'm making as a favour, if I did do the Mississippians then it would not be for a long while. Rest assured, I am interested in the civilisation however, and I'll only make a civ if I'm actually interested in the history ;)
Do you mean which civ am I releasing next, or what civs am I adding to my WIP list?
@FatGuy1Pack
I may incorporate E and D at one point, or at least decisions.
@ianandsue5
Yeah, the Mississippians are quite a cool one, I may do it if/when I decide to do another North American civ
@axatoramus
I believe another modder has a Kurdish civ in the works
@hit me. hit me with your car!
Keeps prize ships, the nomad should technically retain the bonus as it upgrades to the Ironclad, which has the same bonus.
