In what way does it look like an airsoft gun...
if you can get the motor sound out of the video
And no, I THINK that weapons that have different sounds for auto fire compared to semi.
Examples are ppsh, mg34, avt etc. It's what I think, but I'm never 100% sure. I don't have the time to test every single gun as that would require a year or so.
So for a gun to sound vivid, I have to use a really dry, unmodified sound. These sounds are extremely hard to get, simply because it's really hard to record a dry gunsound. I guess this has to happen on certain circumstances, like soundproof recording studios.
As much as I like to implement realistic sounds, I cannot use those most of the times, simply because they were recorded on the field, shooting ground etc. Adding those sounds in the game will make the effects twice as hard, meaning you will get insane echoes and noise.
I hope that kinda explains the struggle for good, high quality sounds. If you stumble upon a sound you'd really like to have in your game, please send it, and I'll try to create a custom mod for you.
Now on my part, I've tried to use youtube video's as a source, and indeed, the gun tends to sound way differently. However, this is the point where things get tricky.
As you state, gun sounds change depending on the environment. Actually, environment determines most of the gun's characteristic sounds.
The unreal engine 3 used in RO, applies these effects. This means that when you stand in a room, it applies a room effect (reverb and decay etc.) to the DRY gun sound. Basically I don't add these effects, the engine does it.
When firing a rifle, there are about 3 sounds the shooter hears when shooting the weapon, depending on distance, environment etc. The first sound is the actual sound of the rifle itself, the "BOOM".
The second sound is the "CRACK". Assuming youre firing a round that is supersonic, that is actual sound of the bullet itself. You can hear this echo back to you as the projectile flies downrange as well.
K98k FTW. Great sound mod, I am enjoying all of your mods!

And I do read the comments for constructive criticism, but not to start flame wars with guys like you, okay?
If you dont like Constructive Critisim from people who actually shoot these guns instead of youtube,Dont read Comments.
Tenko, then please, just don't install it. Is it really that hard? If you think you can do better, go ahead! I'll be eagerly awaiting your mods
