No worries man, life happens :) the driving AI is certainly better, but it's still not a fix all. Apparently there is a tank specific DLC coming down the road that will make tanks much more realistic and believable. No more hitpoints, working armor system etc. I hope the tank AI will be vastly improved as well. I look forward to your return, and would love to help out if you need it.

Hi Jester, Thanks for the feedback. I stopped working on this as I had other things to do including a few Skyrim mods. Also, I kind of got sick of the awful vehicle AI that seemed to plague every mission (you know, vehicles flipping themselves over or driving into houses or getting stuck on a rock!). I understand that with the new APEX dlc they have redone the driving AI and it is much better so I will make a return to this mission shortly. However, feel free to hack away at it yourself if you wish :steamhappy:

Raid M1A1/M1A2 tanks can now be used as your platoon tanks and you can also get them as supporting tanks.

he only one i'm not sure about is having the supply vehicles. I'm not sure it would be realistic to allow in battle repairing. Also, these types of vehicles never appeared in the original and could unbalance the game as the player could take heavy damage then retreat back to the supply vehicles and be repaired to full health in a few seconds.

Final recommendation for now is you rationalize your orders of battle. Don't just mix and match - a US tank platoon belongs to a tank company, which belongs to a combined arms battalion that is part of a brigade combat team. Don't just throw assets into a mission because they're cool or random - add them deliberately because that is what a tank platoon would have supporting it. The battalion scouts are in humvees or JLTVs. The infantry are in platoons with Bradleys. 155mm artillery support or battalion 120mm mortars. Give us a sustainment unit with fuel, repair and ammo HEMTTs in every battle, and mark their position on the map (or assign them to us in HC).

Recommend you either create the option to pick RHS/CUP or Vanilla units or you make separate versions of the mission for each mod pack. I have CUP and RHS installed, and the scenario defaults to the CUP vehicles.

Also recommend you never use dismounted infantry. They're way too slow for a mechanized battle. Give them IFVs or APCs or Humvees or something, otherwise you might be waiting for 30 minutes for infantry to even get to a town to clear it.

I never played Gunship 2000...I did have the (unfortunate) pleasure of playing Gunship! which was always supposed to integrate with M1 Tank Platoon 2/3 but that never happened.

I did play Combat Lynx on my old Amstrad and something called LHX on my first PC and after that it was Hind and then Enemy Engaged series.

Definately will be looking at doing something chopper orientated in the future!

Right, checked it out, works very well now! And it's also a lot of fun! BTW, I found it interesting you said in one of your videos that you actually prefered the original M1 Tank Platoon to its sequel - same here! While the sequel was my first "Tank Platoon", I recently played the original in DosBox and found it to be more challenging and realistic. Just like the original Gunship 2000 was much better than its sequel from 1999 or 2000, albeit there the difference was even greater. To me it seems the sims really tanked from 2000 / 2001 on, with Jane's F/A-18 being the last proper and comprehensive flightsim. Things got better with DCS now finally, but unfortunately it lacks direction. I'm very hopefull with regards to Combat Air Patrol 2 though, maybe this one will revive the genre with a proper Dynamic Campaign and theater.

there we go, have a try now. I've disabled CUP and RHS mods on my system and the mission now starts up correctly :steamhappy:

Sorry, don't want to spam the comment section - but have now read in your SimHQ changelog that the CUP as well as the RHS mods should indeed be optional and the mission will use A3 stock units if the mods are not installed. Since I have the below mentioned problem, is it possible that this function was lost somewhere along the way and would it be possible for you to reactivate it? But don't worry if that's too much of a hassle, I might d/l them at some point then.

Oh dear, something didn't work. When I selected for the crews to man the tanks, I first got the message that the mission would be starting in 5...4...3... etc but then at zero it said "Mission starting, please wait. When you tank has fuel, the mission is ready."
But then, nothing ever happens. Is it that CUP is mandatory? From your description it sounds like it is an optional addon.
I don't have CUP installed right now and have a slow net connection, so I will try it at some later point.
Anyway, love the idea, keep it going! Next: Gunship 2000! :-)))))))

Very cool idea! I love the old sims and the gameplay they had (dynamic campaigns / randomized missions etc). Just recently I was thinking back about M1 Tank Platoon 2 and was sorry that it wouldn't run properly on a modern machine and then I found your post about your A3 mission on one of the tank boards (was it SimHQ or SABOW?).
So thanks for your effort, will try it now!
