@c39687 No thats a myth. The roman army in 400 AD was still a formidable force. Not as great as before but still very effective. In Attila vanilla The western roman empire is too weak. The entire empire collapses at turn 15-20 if you play as a non-roman faction. It defeats the entire purpose of the barbarian/hun campaigns. The WRE went belly up in 480 AD. This mod makes everything more realistic

Yeah someone post a fix to this mod....I am really lookijng to buff Rome and to weaken some of the ridiculous units for the Huns....the Chosen Uar in particular....need to die

sounds good but it seems like you making the roman empire strong is not historically accurate, they were involved in civil wars constantly and the army was weak

I played this some more. It is badly balanced. The romans slice through units. Play this mod if you want to be some super easy roman game. I am starting a mod from scratch. I DID LIKE some of the other overall game change tweaks in this mod. That is the only reason I give it some credit, for example, colonisation, and siege attrtition are all good tweaks.

But for me, it is unplayable and the balance of factions is totally off. I don't know how these guys figure they can tweak all these game units and simply assume balance as if they play god. Their are tonnes of mods like tthis, like I said, some dude on crack.

Ok guys, this is a decent mod I think with some good stuff. But this guy was on the crack pipe. He like took away all germanic levy, and band for nearly all tribes, and its like how i gona chop chop? So I added these back. Well I have not posted the file, but if you let me know, if there any really really stuff that I consider *obviously dodgy* - you know crack pipe stuff - let me know, because it;s not like I'm going to play every faction checking this. Give me your reason, and I can start a new file.

So far: --- added germanic levy, and germanic band, like the vanilla for all germanic tribe
[ I am ok for new units etc. but this was way off base}

I mean all i got now, is like Germanic brigands, it's like, no melee unit for these germanic nations until later on, well except only a few of them, you can see in the .pack file, there are only three nations or so with germanic band.

It seems the germanic band which is like the standard axe unit for germanic tribes, has been removed from all but a few tribes. So it's like a pretty raw deal, for these tribes, with no good melee units at start, you really think these guys would not have used axes in battle back then, I really don't get this, how a mod can have so much good stuff, and then go overboard with this unit mess. Why can't the guy release all the mods, without all the unit messing, because from what I see from the comments section, that's where all the complaints are, I get that the guy is like rebalancing the units, if only it did amount for balance, but taking away the only melee unit you can use for these germanic factions at the start, is like wtf?

And then it's like, you get these germanic bands as starting units, and then it's like woah, I cannot recruit them? That is like what? My nation has axes, then not?

I found that deleting all references from the pack file to hibernian spearmen now allows me to recruit celtic spearmen as the picts. But I can see now that the Eblanians now cannot upgrade to hibernian spearmen. Oh well I guess I can just switch back and forth depending on which faction I want to play.

My last comment was wrong. I tested it again and actually found that you cannot recruit celtic spearman anymore after researching Defined Military Obligation. You can only upgrade your existing spears or get mercenary celtic levy.

That depends on which tables that mod uses, but it for sure won't work it it uses a modified startpos table.

Well, waddaya know, I actually returned to this mod after all and finally put in the recruitment changes for the Empires of Sand and the Slavs. What I haven't at the moment is modifying their unit icons because I, to my embarassment, forget how that works. I also think I should change some of the older ones because they look stupid.

If you use mods that affect the same tables or have a modded startpos on their own, the mod will not function proprely.

I actually reduced all but one WRE army to half-strength because balance checks showed that the AI WRE would otherwise run roughshod over almost all their enemies

Hey I just wanted to say great job with the mod. This was the first time I was able to play as the West Romans and not quit halfway through because my Garrisons couldn't put up a fight. I also like the historical corrections on the Legions.

Halle everyone, sorry for my long absence, but my gaming PC had a rather unfortunate meltdown and the PoS I'm currently using can't run TWA (or most other modern games) at any acceptable level. I still have plans on further working on this mod and thank you for the ideas and support but it'll still take a while until I get a replacement and I think owe it to you guys to not patch the mod without also being able to properly playtest the changes myself.

Hi, I'm having a lot of fun with my WRE in your mod. I wanna make some suggestions for more immersion. Since you already put in the effort of renaming separatists as usurpers (wich is great), maybe the other generic rebels could be named bagaudae (I think that is how they called the people that revolted against the central roman authority back then).

Also, is it possible to put some barbarian names or historical names in the pool of names for the romans ? I wonder because there was a lot of barbarian generals who became patricians and magister militum during this time period. It would be cool to see a Roman general named Ricimer or Odovacar. Anyway, keep up the good work !

Is it possible to modify the game so that puppet states with 1000+ rep do not declare war on you because you are at war already with a large number of factions. I hate it when I have 10+ puppet states all with 500+ rep and they all declare war on me at once because I choose to back an ally vice cancel the allaince.

If Fall of the Eagles uses a custom Startpos file I'm afraid it won't be compatible.

I changed that aspect, due to the now somewhat worse relationship both have to the now christian Eblanians, so the latter doesn't get eliminated early.

When i start a campaign the Votadinians is at war with Saxons only and don't have a defensive alliance with the picts.Is it something wrong on my end or have you changed the mod?

Depends on the unique id numbers assigned in the table of that mod, if they overlap, only one version will be activated.

That would require tampering with the historical_persons table which Attila reacts highly allergic to. I lost my entire working date when I tried putting some historical persons in, so sorry, can't do anything about it.

After the last official update Alamans once again have multiple Ybors. Maybe you can do something about it?
