Please return and update this, I am really wanting some system to earn or remove traits while playing that works with the SOTO trait and occupation overhaul mod

Well, here's hoping it gets updated some day.

Yesterday I was talking about how it'd be nice if you could earn traits mid-game somehow, basically a reward for having survived as long as you have.
This is pretty close to what I had in mind and there's even a chance for it to be updated to the current version.

I just reinstalled Project Zomboid and checked it out on my stream.
Who knows.
Maybe I'll update since I'm playing it again :>

Can you read the book's if your already a illiterate

@Metonymia Equinox unfortunately I haven't been playing the game in a long time, the mod uses its own reading module that I wrote that replaces the native one that as far back as B34, was working fine and has as far as I can tell continued to work since.

I have released the mod as open to all on the PZ forums so feel free to download the mod from here or there and make your modifications to it and if you'd like to be a contributor, I'm happy to add people to the project so they can continue to maintain it here in PZ.

@BunBoxMomo could this mod be expanded with a book that removes Disorganized and one that yields Organized?
Or books like "How to be Average" or "Blending In" to remove Conspicuous and/or give Inconspicuous?

any news on B41?

When I read one of the books in 40.43, it disappears when fully read. The trait books are hard to come by, and the death of a character means the loss of invested non-replaceable books.
I expected the trait books to be like the recipe magazines.

Could you please change the books so they will not be consumed?

@hal-9000 It'd take quite a bit to break that functionality.
I had written my own module to handle reading since I couldn't get it to hook into the native one :^)

Odd/good result of that is the thing will work for a pretty long time.
New books would probably need to be made for other skills though.

Seems to work at the time of writing, I had slow reader and I found two books so I could get up to the normal reading speed then read the second book to become a fast reader.

does this work with the new cars?

There`s an illustrated book that makes you from illiterate to slow reader, one that removes the slow reader trait and another one that gives you the fast reader trait. Read them in order and profit.

Maybe abandoned? I will try and develop it as much as I can with my current knowledge upon scripting and maybe convince the author or somebody else to check my code and implement it if good enough.

Could you update this mods discription with all names of current books and effects.
I am unsure if im finding your books in singleplayer but the books i am finding seem to do nothing.

Ran into a stumbling block with implementing hobby traits. Had been focusing on getting that working but seems that will require more work. No update today unfortunately, but instead going to focus on getting more non-hobby trait books implemented over the next few days and then rolling out the update.

Considered pushing the update as is with the art done for existing books but felt it'd be better to just get more content into the mod and do a single update rather than 2 updates a few days apart.

Working now on an update to be released for TTB either today or tomorrow.
Update for the mod will contain:
- Item art for the 3 reader books. (100% sure)
- Trait books for Bravery and Desensitised (75% sure - depends on if any issues are encountered)
- Trait book for First Aid (50% sure - Again depends on if any issues)

When you add more to the mod I will give a free taco, no scam

@nerdygamer There are 3 books that can be found in the world. Each book is tied to a respective trait. The first book "Burch and friends - Let's leard to read!" can be read if you have the "Illiterate" trait using the menu command "Struggle to read". On completion, the illiterate trait is removed and replaced with "Slow Reader". Likewise there are books that can be used to remove slow reader and to learn Fast Reader.

Later on I plan on adding books for things like herbalism and what not but right now it just covers reading

So how does this work exactly? Does it just allow you to change your character's traits in the game, like you were remaking your character (ie. I want to read books faster, but I'll also need to take the "clumsy" trait to even it out). Or does it allow your character to "improve"? (ie. I take "quick reader" and "clumsy" but then I find a book that allows me to remove "clumsy")
