I do have some other diplomacy mods which can spice things up for your player faction. But you're free to join a faction of your choice. I hope it causes some cool conflicts and stuff...
Infact, I might just create a temporary PvP server with this mod. And see what happens ^-^
May experiment with more in the future
That's the only downside...
I'm going to do more NPC related stuff when it becomes supported again :)
I'ed like to add in customized NPC's that are apart of faction's... this I can currently do. Though I am unable to have the NPC's attack enemies of the faction and not attack people within the same faction. How barbarians work currently is it targets the Player as Enemy and all other Barbarian NPC's friendly. I cannot modify this. So even if I had NPC's for each nation... they would simply behavior like normal barbarians.
I plan on adding some unique items from the time period... possibly some additional RP items. Theirs a lot I want to do, that I simply cant do at the moment.
Part 1:
I know about the dev's true ambition behind the project Medieval Engineers. As Sir ScottX125 points out it's to create a incredible AI. With that in mind I wanted to create a mod that would eventually utilise that AI. For now the AI are restricted to fighting "humans" and not "humans of the other faction" hence I cannot include NPC guards yet. (I can add them but they’ll attack friendlies)
For now what this mod focuses on is role play elements. Some people want to build castles, some want to survive, others want to play in a medieval world setting. Players who want more of an environment to play in rather then control would enjoy this mod. Instead of relying on players to build castles and war each other the NPC's would do it. Then there is you, the mercenary in the middle. Who can choose any king to serve for the right amount of coin, or serve as their sword and shield out of pure loyalty.
Of course players may create their own faction and rise as a power... but that requires many people. The goal is to make the world not feel empty, to give it substance, story, motion, and direction. Historians and Role Players alike will enjoy this mod.
As a side note, I'm developing these "Medieval Faction" mods with the intention that these will be used on servers.

Maybe even some 1050 AD villages!
Dont forget to download Yurand2000's flag mod!
