To whom it may concern, a good rope material to use is: cable\rope.vmt under the hl2 Mod Filter. It looks like a standard rope and isn't visible through other objects. It took a while for me to find it, and so I thought someone else would appreciate it.

Other than that, this is a super cool and helpful way to use a rope in SFM!

rOPE DOES NOT APPEAR IN sfm? THIS WORKSHOP IS A SCAM DO NOT DOWNLOAD
walgreens (unofficial) 9. mar. 2023 kl. 0:19
Should the rope be appearing from the moment I insert it into a shot? Or do I need to go to the Particle System Editor? I can navigate up until the moment I find that little white circle icon with the dots; from there, I don't know where to find the .psf file I need for the rope to actually appear visible.

Where the hell am I going to get a model rope
YourFemboyAmber 16. okt. 2022 kl. 14:57
(How to change to Material of the rope)

1. Right click on the rope and press Instance Particle System
2. Press Edit Particle System Definition then press rope

Now you can change the Color of the Rope and the Material
1. You can change the Color by pressing the White box
2. You can change the Material by scrolling down until you see a white circle with 3 dots.
Click it and boom there you go.

Hope this help you!

I can't see the rope for some reason.
Ponyboy 3. dec. 2020 kl. 13:21
oop never mind restarting sfm made it work for some reason.
Ponyboy 3. dec. 2020 kl. 13:15
nothing i do when following those instructions to make the rope actually curve or be affected by gravity works.

any value i put into bulge and bulge control 0=random 1=orientation of start pnt 2=orientation of end point does literally nothing, and neither does rotating the control points, or messing with the mid point position.

pls help all i have with this rope particle is a solid stick that doesnt do anything.

Why is it not appearing in sfm?
Ron Ducats 4. mar. 2019 kl. 6:27
Sorry, I forgot to thank you! Thanks a lot, very useful addon!! :)

@Ron Ducats, read my previous comment.

>>@BFS, if you can see the particle through the map, it is the chosen material's fault. Change it.
Ron Ducats 30. jan. 2019 kl. 6:33
Thanks! I noticed it kind of just appears even behind models and walls, any way to fix that?
Rayko  [ophavsmand] 28. jan. 2019 kl. 5:46
@Ron Ducats, yes. Animate control points to do that.
Ron Ducats 28. jan. 2019 kl. 5:10
Can you animate this? (Have it in an a live moving scene, not just a pose?
Ron Ducats 11. jan. 2019 kl. 18:15
THANK YOU!

Is it normal that I see the particle through the map? Like I have X-ray.

Thanks, Rayko! I found it just fine and it looks great
Rayko  [ophavsmand] 5. maj 2017 kl. 2:51
@Sir. Doffins, you can do it in Particle Editor, actually. Now sorry as I won't give you the exact names since I don't have access to SFM, but if you go to the 'render_rope' renderer, you should be able to find a parameter that determines the scale of an applied material, so it will be more stretchy or more repeatable.
dobbins 5. maj 2017 kl. 0:33
This particle is awesome, but if you dont mind me asking how would I loop a certain material rather than just having it stretch over the length?
Trashcan't 16. dec. 2016 kl. 14:32
i wish this was a model not a particle:steamsad:
Machelix 12. sep. 2016 kl. 9:45
Thank you kindly. :) I had already altered the color to suit my needs, but I just couldn't find the proper material to hold the color. ^^;
Rayko  [ophavsmand] 12. sep. 2016 kl. 2:06
@Machelix, you can try using 'swamp\cable\rope_vine.vmt' material in tf mode. You can adjust it's tint in System Properties -> color.
Machelix 11. sep. 2016 kl. 19:28
I'm having a problem similar to Calderwood with the default rope material displaying only a solid color and bleeding through the world and props. I'm unable to find the one you used for your examples with all the clutter occupying the available materials. Could you tell me which material you used and whether it's actually a part of SFM, or whether it's a simple tweaking of the current material's parameters?
Rayko  [ophavsmand] 24. juni 2016 kl. 12:46
Your question is unclear. What do you want when you write 'toggle render_animated_sprites'? It toggles on/off easily during editing particle system, but I guess it's not what you really want.
Also, there are no sliders in particle system. I guess it would be wise to recommend you to watch a basic tutorial on how to work with particles.
Mario Mario 24. juni 2016 kl. 11:44
im sorry but, how do I toggle render_animated_sprites. I also cant move the slider on the rope particle. I am in the motion editor for these. halp
