Its been a couple of years since I built this... who knows what changes to game physics have been made since then!
Varogon Razorwing 18 Feb, 2019 @ 2:09pm
okay, issue... i launch teh rocket now and the capsul never detaches it all just falls back down then baloons and returns
Hunter 19 Jul, 2017 @ 5:06pm
You might as well called it kerbal space program
Kethrian  [author] 12 Aug, 2016 @ 5:16am
yeah, stick a chair on the capsule, start the count down then use 3rd person view to sit yourself in the chair before it takes off
2Fort2Furious 12 Aug, 2016 @ 4:09am
Awesome! is it possible to put yourself into a capsule and launch yourself to space?
Kethrian  [author] 25 Jul, 2016 @ 4:50pm
Read the instructions above
HadalAbyss 25 Jul, 2016 @ 2:42pm
HOW DOES THIS EVEN WORK! IT LOOKS CRAZY!
Kethrian  [author] 15 Jul, 2016 @ 5:41pm
In space, no one can here you derp... so its all good
FancyMelon 15 Jul, 2016 @ 5:34pm
V Nevermind! I derped. :c
FancyMelon 15 Jul, 2016 @ 5:21pm
V On the launch site.
FancyMelon 15 Jul, 2016 @ 5:21pm
Uhh? My rocket goes into space and all that, but my orbiter just kind of sits there.

Hello_There 14 Jul, 2016 @ 4:38pm
Oh damn thats smart...I applaude you for such an awesome looking platform and such a freaking smart control system...AWESOME JOB AND KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!!!!!
Kethrian  [author] 14 Jul, 2016 @ 6:10am
Most of it is done by setting custom controls on an ACB block. If you have a look at some of the ACBs dotted around and look at the custom control tab, you will see alot of them have one or more letter highlighted in green. Whenever the corresponding key is pressed, it will activate the ACB effect (often with a delay).

Things like flashing lights are produced by using spin blocks that pass in front of ACBs that detect the presence of som, ething in front of them...

The rocket launch is triggered in a similar manner. There is a hole in the launch pad and an ACB in the base of the rocket that looks for objects passing in front of it. When the launch sequence is activated, an arm swings out under the launch pad to cover the hole and the ACB on the rockset sets a delayed command to start the engines.

Everything else is triggers by standard ACB commands

Awesome job!!!!! I use it to start off my space program of weapons and spy satilites. Just one question, how were you able to make this this work???? By this I mean the controls and what happens when you hit Y and T
Kethrian  [author] 29 May, 2016 @ 6:41pm
The current one is only using about 50% capacity Its got plenty of scope for larger payloads
jcboone 29 May, 2016 @ 6:22pm
i think your already doing this but a more heavy duty rocket for sending large objects into space
Kethrian  [author] 29 May, 2016 @ 5:54pm
30 block long cruise missile maybe... platforms not designed to go into co,bat though
jcboone 29 May, 2016 @ 5:50pm
maybe a sort of missile wepon? im working on one right now for it.
Kethrian  [author] 29 May, 2016 @ 5:37pm
what would you want to launch?
jcboone 29 May, 2016 @ 5:35pm
whoops it wasnt fully out. thanks. love this design.
for your next one maybe more launch platforms?
Kethrian  [author] 29 May, 2016 @ 2:19pm
Is the patform moving, works 99% of time as long as the fortress is stationary
jcboone 29 May, 2016 @ 2:14pm
the orbiter isnt steating right in the middle causing it to fall off at launch
Kethrian  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 6:40pm
I should point out at this point... that the reason the orbiter isnt attached to the rocket via a docking station is that doing so causes the entire vehicle to fall through the world........ I'm not being lazy with this design, it just wont work the way i conceived it!
Kethrian  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 6:38pm
well at least we cleared that up!
Neurosys 11 May, 2016 @ 6:36pm
Stop stop you had me at 'fiery death'

xD
Kethrian  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 6:35pm
It works pretty well but I cant discount the occasional FtD physics failure... such as the orbiter clipping through the rocket (which results in fiery death) or the rocket falling through the launch pad (which results in clipping issues followed by fiery death), or the orbiter becoming entangled in the ro0cket or the gantry or both, which results in..... fiery death...... These are all FtD physics issues and entirely out of my control
Neurosys 11 May, 2016 @ 6:16pm
".... upto a height of about 1750m. The rocket should be on a balloon coming down towards you.... OR everything exploded and you are dead. "

Possibilities.
KZFKreation 11 May, 2016 @ 8:22am
Not sure if a reference to actual gerbals... or kerbals.
pee ness 10 May, 2016 @ 2:12pm
send hamsters to space
Comfort Creature 9 May, 2016 @ 2:04am
Wish there was nuclear weapons in this game... i would put all the warheads on this rocket!
Kethrian  [author] 8 May, 2016 @ 8:12pm
Colerocks - It may be down to a difference in skills, but I cant tell without more info. Go into build mode on the probe during a launch to see what is happening.

Have you mounted the orbiter on the launch gantry successfully?
When you pressed Y, did the orbiter seat itself on the rocket correctly
Is the rocket launching straight up?
Is the probe falling off the rocket too early?
what altitude does the probe reach before starting to lose altitude?
Have you pressed "I" key (as this will recall the rocket and probe)?
Are you being patient between key presses? Each step should take about 15 to 20 seconds and rushing it can cause instability.

If the probe is not getting to 1000m before falling back to earth, you can try and tweak the rocket thrust. Go into build mode on the rocket and look for the Automated Control block thats painted bright Pink about half way up - Adjust the desired speed from 0.6 to 0.7 and see if that solves your problem.

Hey Kethrian im having trouble getting the probe into low orbit, any tips/help?
thanks

Kethrian  [author] 5 May, 2016 @ 2:20pm
Hope you found it easy to use! Ive had a few people ask me for further instructions on parts of the launch, but i think thats down to not reading the instructions.
artemus_Z 5 May, 2016 @ 2:01pm
absolutely brilliant
ComStar Knight 5 May, 2016 @ 12:37pm
Aww yeaaa, now I can send my battleships to space!
Elektroniksupersonik 5 May, 2016 @ 2:29am
