@Lone Wolf
@geeky_nerd02
check out The Belt(Wole2.3) it adds people living in .. the belt gives you the feel of the expanse and more colonizable "worlds"

@Lone Wolf

That would be epic! ^_^

@joseeph_anthony_king Just my 2 cents but from what I understood the point of reducing the cost was the the initial stages of colony setup would be unprofitable and need that support but that once industry could be established a colony could be more or less self sustaining

not to mention the bigger goal of ensuring humanities survival if something were to ever happen to mother earth

@San Felipe, there's been talk of colonies on Mars since the 1960's so I'll believe it when I see it. Fact is colonies on Mars will require extensive support from Earth to even be viable, that's Musk's rationale for coming up with reusable rockets... to try to reduce that costs. Yet, if such colonies are only viable with cheap rockets that means there isn't much there to exploit to begin with so why bother? It'd be too expensive (we'd have to provide an atmosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere) with small return on investment. As such, the lack of a colony on start makes sense and will probably prove to be accurate.

But when we colonise Mars, it will be an inhospitable planet. Stellaris doesn't allow for this, in Stellaris you colonise planets that suit your race. Mars, honestly, doesn't suit Mankind. What Stellaris should do is allow for a "habitat" option that is energy expensive but which doesn't cripple your consumer goods production.
Darth Modus - God of Richards 28 Jan, 2019 @ 10:29am
@Everyone - Its always weird why Mars is never colonised in every Sol playthrough to begin with? It's not even slightly terraformed or habitable, which does not reflect reality since humanity will soon set off for red planet and we're still in the 21st century?
Lonewolf 27 May, 2018 @ 1:29am
There should be a Expanse mod, it will never be done unfortunetly
Aelysium 6 May, 2018 @ 7:53pm
2.0 functionally kills this mod as shared systems are no longer possible. Sadness. =(
Hologram 21 Apr, 2018 @ 8:58am
PLEASE UPDATE need to do a playthrough after watching the expanse where earth and mars are seperate empires. Great Work!
Tk427gaming 22 Mar, 2018 @ 1:38pm
Will this mod ever be updated for the new version?
tilarium 22 Jan, 2018 @ 6:17pm
Question. Will it fire if I use a custom empire built off of the galactic empire from Elratie's Empire shipset or do I have to be the UN of Earth?
Maywood 27 Dec, 2017 @ 11:59am
uhm does anyone else have the issue of not having a science ship with this mod? I started a new game, switched over to Mars and now I neither have a science ship, nor can I build one at the spaceport (also no construction or colony ships)...am I missing sth here?
fuke 14 Dec, 2017 @ 3:01pm
You had me at Space Communism.
Laggfestttt 13 Nov, 2017 @ 5:47am
Thanks for update!
PTSnoop  [author] 13 Nov, 2017 @ 3:26am
New update! This mod now has 1.8 support, and the initial event now gives you a choice to play as either Earth or Mars (rather than having to use console commands).
kg.brenton 16 Sep, 2017 @ 3:41am
Love the mod! this is a great idea and i have been looking to build a mod very similar to this, but would be spawned by command so anyone can add a new species to their galaxy mid save
Failbaddon the Harmless 29 Jul, 2017 @ 4:42pm
will they be mechanists starting out with the flesh is weak?
Locksley 26 Jun, 2017 @ 8:49pm
Nope. :P
Locksley 26 Jun, 2017 @ 8:08pm
Any chance this still works? lol
Homozygote 23 May, 2017 @ 2:28am
I'd love for this to be updated! How did you go Kuro?
Altman 8 May, 2017 @ 12:57pm
I imagine this won't work with the latest build of Stallaris, 1.5.1? I'll still give it a try, woul dbe nice if I didnt have to seek out a paticular patch. those pesky launchers always update the game
BladeofSharpness 7 May, 2017 @ 6:33am
yes
ERO 1 May, 2017 @ 5:22am
Does this still work?
Aelysium 1 Mar, 2017 @ 6:27am
I've seen the Mars empire build colony ships, but I've never seen it colonize another planet. Not sure what's causing it either.
Laggfestttt 19 Jan, 2017 @ 1:26pm
Can Mars empire colonize other planets?
Jaysus 9 Jan, 2017 @ 12:18pm
will you update this when the banks update rolls around?
Frankish Pilgrim 23 Dec, 2016 @ 3:43pm
@BladeofSharpness Aurora is the most enjoyable spreadsheet I have ever played :D
BladeofSharpness 9 Dec, 2016 @ 12:50am
Pleased to be of help. I have shelved Stellaris since some weeks now, although I see it as a dream comes true, regarding sci-fi 4X. Will soon restart I believe.

Do you know by chance the indy game 'Aurora', very hardcore? My point here is that this is a sci-fi game with pre-FTL start where you really feel like you play a combination of US/Russian/European/Chinese commonwealth. Going further, that would be cool to have the Sol System with 4-6 Earth alliances in a state of watchful neutrality. But that's a big project!
Lonewolf 4 Dec, 2016 @ 9:46am
No problem this is a great mod, however I would like to request one additonal thing. Could you possibly turn Mars into a Alpine or Tundra world seeing as how that's how mars would be in reality if it were to be terraformed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBANoo7sbaI
PTSnoop  [author] 4 Dec, 2016 @ 1:23am
Update released. Independent Mars is now compatible with 1.3.*, and I've finally got round to adding @BladeOfSharpness's Mars Defense Fleet. (Thanks for poking me into action, @Blackbird5598!)

About the problem with colonization, I experimented it first hand when playing with Mars. Ended up playing against Mars and conquered them so I can colonize, but the first 10 years of the game were very nice, with a kind of distant world feeling (I'm speaking of the game "Distant Worlds") as I played 'tactically' within a single system, watching movements, something I never do in Stellaris because nothing much happens in your home system usually...

@PTSnoop: see above my script to create a defense fleet.
PTSnoop  [author] 31 May, 2016 @ 12:27pm
Thanks for the comments, everyone!

@BladeOfSharpness: Ooh, good find. Adding a Mars Defence Fleet sounds like a good idea.
I'd rather not add more moons etc to the Independent Mars mod itself, though - instead I'd been planning to remove the custom solar system initialiser, do everything through the event, and make it properly compatible with Sol+ et al. I like the sound of a more-nations upgraded mod, though - Most Serene Republic of Venus, anyone? :P

@louiscoleman, @gorillacakes: On default settings, I've generally found the Commonwealth of Mars to be around tag 050 or so.

@zhu_yuda: The issue there is that Stellaris won't let you colonise anywhere inside someone else's terrain. And the red/blue space around Earth all counts as "someone else's terrain", because it's not just yours. You'll have to go outside the red/blue area before it'll let you colonise planets.

@Marcvsiulius: Nope. Just a planet. :P
BladeofSharpness 29 May, 2016 @ 3:34am
Hi PTSnoop,

I have worked and revised your mod, adding a defense fleet to Mars, as there is a loophole if you play as UNS: you can siege Mars with your corvettes, which will prevent the starport construction... Free planet after landing troops.

If you are interested, please reply, otherwise I'll continue on an upgraded mod with more nations.

ps: I also added more moons to the Solar System, using sol+ mod as a base :)
gorillacakes 23 May, 2016 @ 8:20am
@PTSnoop This looks like a really fun mod, well done! I would recommend getting in touch with the guy who made the nationalism mod icons and ask if you can use some of his. He has a few cool Soviet era logos in his pack.
gorillacakes 23 May, 2016 @ 8:19am
@louiscoleman You need to open the command console (usually the button below the Esc key on whatever keyboard you use) and simply type in tag 1. Try different numbers instead of 1 until you find the empire you want to play as. It will tell you in the command console box which empire you change to.

Keep in mind this might sometimes include fallen empires and primitive races. To avoid spoilers stay in the solar system view.
kriegmarine 23 May, 2016 @ 5:58am
This look interesting
Ell 22 May, 2016 @ 8:12pm
What do I tag to take control of them?
zhu_yuda 21 May, 2016 @ 10:40pm
Nice but I can't conlonize new planets
Marcvsiulius 20 May, 2016 @ 2:57pm
Does it have at least scientist and construction ships?
