@Samino2- I don't even remember myself, it's been so long. If reversing the rotors ( hotbar button ) doesn't work, you might need to turn up the strength on the rotors as Keen have changed a lot of stuff in the game since I built this. I'll update all my creations sooner or later to take advantage of all the new stuff they've added...

@Mew- probably a side effect of all the stupid changes over the years; they tried to make rotors and pistons more stable, now it self destructs by locking landing gear & the rotors are weaker in general. Go figure- the ship itself shouldn't be exceeding any limits, it's not very big at all compared to some stuff on the workshop- poke a few more settings maybe, not sure what else to suggest as it pastes into Creative mode just fine in that sense, for me.

Hmm, I've tried:

Shared inertia tensor on/off = still explodes as soon as you lock the main landing gear.
Rotor lock on/off = still explodes.
Shaft lock landing gears locked/unlocked = still explodes.
Along with all possible combos of the above mixed together = still explodes. The rotors also no longer have the strength to hold up the weight of the drill shaft once it starts moving down- it gets faster & faster and damages itself. Turning off sub-grid damage might help but that's basically the same as making the drill invincible, which is cheating. I need to make a new version of this sadly, SE borked it up just a bit too much...

Check your game settings and make sure block limit is disabled.

If I remember correctly I had to undo the safety lock feature on the rotors to keep it from exploding- it worked fine after that. Its been a while since I played, so I could be wrong about that particular setting fixing it.

@Thotimus Prime- yep, good old KSH borked the game- this creation was 100% stable until the physics update. I might go and poke it to see if there's anything I can do to make it stable again, but it might be a lost cause ( especially given its age too, and the fact I've forgotten all of the control nuances ).

@Downtown guy- it's an issue with sub-grids & Projectors, the drill section isn't counted as part of the same grid. There's no way to 'fix' that issue either, you have to build that section manually, which might be a bit tricky- it was difficult enough for me to build it in creative originally since I had to merge the drill in such a way that I could delete merge blocks and add in conveyor blocks without it detaching at the top- impossible to copy & paste it in due to collision volumes. I'd just suggest cheating by pasting in the blueprint with spacemaster tools, then make an offering to Clang as penance...

For some reason when I build this blueprint, it doesn't include the drills or the gear attached to the drills. What could be causing that?

I'm sorry i found a problem with this creation.
When i try to place it on an ice lake , it just glitches into the ground , or flies up for no reason.

I'm not dead, I swear. Yeah, the floating through walls things was something I encountered myself- it wasn't present when I built the platform, but maybe 1 or 2 updates later; nothing I can do to help sorry, it's an issue at Keens end. Regards having the drill shaft as a separate blue print- it won't help unfortunately, as there is no way to paste it into place without collision volumes preventing it pasting. It's just one of those designs which was fine at the time, but then a few updates later and suddenly you can't paste it in without it breaking- the drill shaft will have to be built by hand, using merge blocks to join everything together- it was a nightmare for me at the time, but give a month of trying and you'll get there... :P

I"m having an issue after leaving the pilot seat as it is drilling, i just randomly fall through the floor and can somehow fly through the whole thing like its a ghost or something. Any help?

Could you add the drill arm component as a separate blueprint or how do I get around the "multiple grids not supported" problem? Also I haven't been playing SE for long but this design looks flippin awesome. Thanks for sharing :)

anything connected to something like a rotor,piston etc wont show up, only way to do that is to make those said parts a blueprint of their own, and another projector, but on this particular build.. probably cant do that

only problem i seem to have is either the landing gears exploding (attempted to fix the rotors not going back up or down and boom) the central spire thing came crashing down, med bay did not survive lol and the said rotor problem

Anyone else have a problem with the large hydrogen thrusters not being connected to the conveyor network? They're misaligned. I had to grind them down and rebuild them. I ended up taking out the center tower and all the rotors and putting in a Nanite Factory and Beam Drill instead. Much less space/weight and much better collection. Great base to work out of though. Filled the center with refineries, stone crushers, and gravel extractors. It's a modded beast for mining.

Testing the platform just results in a standstill, the platform drills for a bit, then stops drilling and after releasing and reapplying the locks on the landing gear it will continue to do the same for a bit before grinding down into a complete halt. (Survival)

I haven't tested it yet, but in my many hours of mining and refining having only one refinery is a down side. Maybe throw in a couple of Arc Furnaces. This is a great build I am very impressed! I am in no way knocking it, keep up the great builds!

Fantastic design! I've seen a bunch of piston operated drilling platforms (and made a few myself) but the acordian arms is just genius. But I have to say, the game REALLY doesn't like rotors. I don't think it's a flaw with the design, but rather the game, but the platform keeps stopping randomly both when moving up and down. I tried the landing gear like you suggested but no dice. I'm still a huge fan of the design though, without a doubt my favorite mining rig I've seen so far.

use it to make a pit. then put things you dont like in that pit. lower the drills and problem solved

mining rig tells info on turrets but not on refinery and assembler amount and upgrades.

@Sickno Those thrusters would either come later after you'vegotten into space, or you make a very light rocket ship to get off the surface to go grab some from orbit. I've seen several people able to go from spawning in with a lander to getting into space in under fifteen minutes on vanilla. (The main group I refer to uses x10 inventory on their servers, which might have something to do with that, but nevertheless, you don't need much in a ship whose sole purpose is to lift off, cruise to an asteroid, grab some platinum ore and bring it back.)

@Drayst Alternatively, you can spawwn it in on a creative world, disconnect all the major pieces and blueprint them, then using the projector to do all the moving and build the pieces once they're pretty much in place.

@suicideneil I don't suppose you could publish a world that has this vehicle taken apart like I described above, could you? That would make getting all the parts blueprinted much more convenient. :)

only suggestion i have is putting the nose/top connector on a piston so you could extend it for docking, just to make it easier to dock with other large ships.

ive been trying to figure out a good system for doing this, so thank you for all the trial and error youve saved me :p

@Drayst- It's not as hard as you think, just a little bit fiddly. Build the 'arms' with the rotors, then use merge blocks to connect the top rotors to the drill shaft ( that's the main fiddly part ). After that, it's just a case of setting the angles for the motors, to prevent the whole thing tearing itself apart by over extending up or down. The exact same applies to Survival mode, it just takes longer to build, but the process is the same- there is no magic way to make the connections between motors and drill shaft in Creative mode, you have to do it the hard way, 4 times...

A very versatile ship. You've made it quite secure as well, thus it's practical. I set this up for a few minutes while I left to go mine in my ship some ice, when I came back there was a deep hole and plenty of ore. I would like easier cargo transfer for large ships though.

ok first off to anyone saying this mod is anything but awesome f@#$% u lol but really this is one of the best mods iv come across and i play and test alot of them for planet mining you cant beat it without mods its without a dout one if not the best vanilla mining mod you can download i had my doughts but is is a truly awesome mod one of a kind in my book

@Sky Drifter- I suggest you subscribe and download the ship before making any unfounded comments about how well it functions. I assure you, it is fully survival ready- it can hover on just atmospheric thrusters with a total weight of over 30 million KG ( ship + cargo ). It has all thruster types in every direction needed in order to function correctly in space and in atmosphere- read the description to understand how it is intended to fly in each case.

dos not realy look Survival ready, the type thruster you have are not fully atmosphere ready and or they will burn out to fast need lots of Ice by the looks of the screen shoots. ( its a cool design ) Just looks like it realy needs rework to be Survival ready.
