Does not work anymore
Procyon 16 Dec, 2018 @ 12:13pm
could you please update this mod?
Mara 20 Apr, 2017 @ 4:58am
this doesnt make sense, as any randomly generated species can take this trait and therefore be rendered useless in the game..
Enzamus Prime 12 Jan, 2017 @ 6:16pm
Could potentially work the death function of the mod to make a feature that has pops that are starving slowly die off? Would be a passive way to cull a population and would make wartime that much more deadly if you have the food-export mods.

COuld also function to dodge the empire wide mallus for eugenics mentioned in a another comment by keeping starvation to one planet, it'd be all conspiracy theoristy and such.

can this be updated for 1.2 / 1.3 when it comes out? says it's no longer compatible :(
Th3oriesMan 16 Aug, 2016 @ 9:53pm
@ primuscomics idk about that story in ST; but the Salarians and Asari did that to the Krogan in the Mass Effect universe thru the Genophage :)
OwnGoal99 13 Jul, 2016 @ 9:51am
Interesting mod. For kicks, what story in Star Trek involved sterilizing a whole species?
Chris1996 9 Jul, 2016 @ 7:41pm
Lol always wanted the flippin mushrooms to die
Khorne Flakes 2 Jul, 2016 @ 9:01pm
Thank you... Can actually kill off some annoying mushrooms that've been just pesks on my Empire...
nordstern 2 Jul, 2016 @ 5:35am
as idea: implement in the death event that 1 Pop of the primary species is created to prevent that a colony is destroyed.
Xionanx  [author] 1 Jul, 2016 @ 5:16am
docflamingo - good ideas. I'll try to answer each.

1. I don't think the part of the code that determines if new pops can or cant spawn is exposed to modder's. A solution could be to look for any "growing" pop on a planet and then simply delete them.. so I guess it could be done. So you would need both the edict and an event to look for said edict, and when found deletes any growing pop. (if you want to make the mod yourself :P)

2. As far as unhappiness goes, I haven't delved into the static modifiers much, but it does make sense. I could attempt to balance this out by adding a "Eugenics" penalty applied to pretty much any non- collectivist or materialist ethic.. its an idea at least. seems like a lot of work, maybe I should pass this along to paradox for official inclusion.. I can definitely see it fitting with the right mix of policy to enable, faction to protest, and happiness penalties.
docflamingo 1 Jul, 2016 @ 4:26am
Neat idea, and very nicely implemented--like with all your work I have noticed. Idea: an edict version of this which can be done on a planetary basis to prevent runaway grow and starvation while not outright destroying a population and can work for every species on it. Sort of a Chinese-style regulation of new births to prevent over-population. Also a question, does this cause any unhappiness among your native population based on ethos? For example, pacifist pops get upset by offensive wars and surface bombardment. I would suspect such a policy would be very controversial.
Exelsiar 1 Jul, 2016 @ 3:46am
Just to check, to use this I have to trait mod a species and add this in right?
Xionanx  [author] 27 Jun, 2016 @ 3:19am
Its an "Add" only trait, no one will/can spawn with it, and i can't picture the AI choosing to use this for any reason.

As far as "Votes" go, it's been my experience with game mods on steam that the "First" mods up get tons of votes and subscribers, which pushes them to the front page more often, which means and "new" mod gets lost in the pile. That and people can't be arsed to vote/subscribe :p.

Its all good tho, all my XC - WHATEVER mods I made for myself and only uploaded to share, so "meh" to votes :p
Baleur 27 Jun, 2016 @ 2:36am
Loving this mod. Why doesnt it have more votes? Only found it by filtering Species mods only :)
Havent tried it yet though, so if i get it straight, this mod requires you to first genetically engineer the "guest" species and add the infertile trait to them, correct?
Can random AI empires spawn WITH this trait randomly assigned? I hope not, for their sake lol.
Then again it would almost be kinda Krogen-cool to meet an empire that is indeed infertile, but the death event would probably kill em off way before you encounter them?
Xionanx  [author] 26 Jun, 2016 @ 5:15pm
Ahh.. yep. Memory being fuzzy, it has been like 10 years or more. :p Still, excellent writing just the same.
RedRapture 26 Jun, 2016 @ 11:56am
Uh....they were uplifted to fight off the Rachni, the Geth were simply left alone and not seen again until Shepard fought against them in ME1. The Krogan were uplifted because they were able to go down into the lairs of the Rachni queens and exterminate them. After they rebelled because they ran out of space to expand, the Turians and Salarians introduced the genophage to bring their numbers under control by 'stabilizing' their breeding rate, making only 1 out of every 1000 pregnancies viable. Course, this caused the Krogans to collapse in on themselves and wrecked their society until it turned into what you see in ME.
Xionanx  [author] 26 Jun, 2016 @ 10:56am
Honestly, the writers for ME1 were amazing.. think about the backstory for the krogan.

A tribal primitive reptile race, who is naturally strong and fast breeding is "uplifted" to help fight off the "Geth".. a sentient robot race who rebelled against their slavery after the "Quarians" refused to admit they were sentient and started purging any of them who showed signs of intelligence. So the krogans help them win the war and what do they get? A virus to "normalize" their reproduction so they dont overrun the galaxy.

Amazing writers and imagination for ME1... too bad they dropped the ball with 2 and 3.

RedRapture 26 Jun, 2016 @ 10:41am
Yup, and look how pissy the Krogans got. They didn't forgive the two races responsible for it for CENTURIES.
Xionanx  [author] 26 Jun, 2016 @ 10:23am
lol.. "The Smoothening" ... gonna smooth your junk right off!

No, I imagine it is more "insidious" like in Mass Effect with "The Phage".. everything is all well and good and then suddenly people just stop being able to give birth to viable offspring. No one noticed those "Foggy" days.. fog is normal after all.
RedRapture 26 Jun, 2016 @ 7:06am
Plus, the act of rendering them sterile will hardly be something calm. Imagine how they could do it, either by poisoning the water supply, or by kicking in your door in the middle of the night and dragging you off to get your nuts/ovaries removed.
kgptzac 26 Jun, 2016 @ 2:43am
It just doesn't make sense to me that imminent death carries the same weight as permanently infertile... i guess it's just depend on people.
Xionanx  [author] 26 Jun, 2016 @ 2:11am
Ehh.. maybe you aren't "old" enough to consider the possibility of not having kids something to be upset about. Combine that with the knowledge that your species will soon be gone forever, its not exactly something to be "happy" about. If anything, purging should have even MORE penatlties associated with it.

Still, I think the genetic modificatino of a species so they can no longer reproduce is standard Sci-Fi fare. Its popped up in Mass Effect, Star Gate, Star Trek, and possible others but those are just the ones I am sure of.

You dont have to be "evil" or a "Collectivist" to choose to castrate an entire race. Nor do you need to be a collectivist to believe in having a synth only race.. just look at "Replicants" from Blade Runner.. :0
kgptzac 26 Jun, 2016 @ 2:05am
Let's be honest here. A synth empire would be most logical to have the collective trait :p

I only played xenophile/pacifist/materialist so far, and adding xeno races to my "collection" (read: empire) is part of fun. I think it would only make a practical sense for xenophobes to purge pops by race due to the fact that they get unhappy for seeing xenos.

Lastly, I don't know about you guys but it would make me a lot more unhappy to tell me that I'm going to die in a few years than saying that I won't have an offspring :p So maybe that 25% happiness penalty is a tad bit high.
LordZarmack 26 Jun, 2016 @ 1:36am
so any improvement on that , cause lets face it humanity is monsterious. - granted i hope by the space age weve matured alittle... but still the option to purge your enemy is and should be a viable option. / resettle them.

one of the things that bugs me most about diplomatic empires is the fact, once you defeat a enemy that has murderd hundreds of your people, you cant displace therm or tell them to f off lol. its like you have to allow them into your empire, so yeah nuking them tbh is the best option lol.
LordZarmack 26 Jun, 2016 @ 1:34am
well it is hortseshit that only a "Evil empire can actualy use "Regular war tactics lol."
Xionanx  [author] 26 Jun, 2016 @ 1:27am
:p The whole point of me making this is because only "collectivist" gets access to purging, which IMO is kinda stupid. I got tired of trying to make a "Synth Only" empire and being forced to select collevtivist to do it.

I have tried to balance this by adding a pretty steep happiness penalty to any species you do this to.
kgptzac 26 Jun, 2016 @ 12:37am
I wish i can do this to pops with diverging ethos instead of their race, lol. Anyway I hope this is only available to empires who have the ability to purge, otherwise it'll feel very wrong :p
RedRapture 25 Jun, 2016 @ 2:33pm
@LordZarmack Look up the 'Deadly Bombardment' mod
LordZarmack 25 Jun, 2016 @ 12:21am
but some sort of ground directed weaponry for bombardment use that kills populations fast.
LordZarmack 25 Jun, 2016 @ 12:21am
to be hounest. i do wish someone made a toxic spore/ radiation mod u know? a weapon for ships that target organic life. ie- give it to the ai robot rases to empathise their efectiveness at purging organics.-

maybe unlocked from studying the previous robot master rase event chain..
LordZarmack 25 Jun, 2016 @ 12:19am
3 Cheers for Genocide. - truth is, its okay for a enemy to bomb your planets kill your people, but its wrong for you to kill them? nonsence.

game is alredy tilted towards P.C Philosophy. so cheers. for adding a darker side to "Reality"
Eisvisage 24 Jun, 2016 @ 9:51pm
This somehow reminds me a little bit of the Aschen from Stargate :D
