This puzzle took me more than 50 resets and 2-3 hours because of the many "make it or break it" sections where you have to perform clean maneuvers, but I loved it! A logical masterpiece that blew my mind more and more with each additional step as I progressed! Thanks for taking the time to make this amazing puzzle! By the way, it's very rare to find puzzles at this difficulty level, do you know of any more?

How are folks doing this? When I I use the raised area button (at 2:44 in the solution video) the portal (yellow outline seen at this portion in video) is cleared when the flip panel moves as a result of pressing the button. In the video it remains- as can be seen in the solution at 2:48- but for me it clears when the button is activated. What am I doing wrong?!

My mind is achieving lucidity. After being in my queue for almost 4 years, I finally beat it. Good job!

Awesome map, as usual. It took me pretty long to figure out the actual solution (lack of practice didn't help). Amazing how you can do such a hard map using only a few elements. Good job!

ha ha I could use this clip for so many things in my life :)

You could think that it's hard to design, but when two people embark on a long, month-long, back-and-forth process with each version offering some small or large breakthrough it becomes very easy and almost effortless. Seeing the new draft and changes the other had made to the map didn't always lead to reactions like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rGz3E4qxhQ :D

Seeing the result, it was indeed a pleasure.

I really liked this puzzle, I agree that there is an interest in maps where you revisit and reuse the same surfaces, the interest being to think about what has changed or what have you gained compared to the last time you did that or went there. I'm not a designer but it must be harder to design than when you move from one puzzle to the next.

It's hard to not to be disappointed by the little bounce when you could have done a bigger bounce. There are plenty of roller coaster maps that had bigger bounces at the end.
Here's one of mine with an epic bounce: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=359403336

Well again, thanks, but I disagree. This puzzle stands apart in a class of puzzles that are intended to have very lengthy and "repetitive" solutions. Yes, it's true that the player revisits areas again and again and again and for different reasons and that's ok , to me and the people who enjoy this tests and others like it, at least. In fact, it's intended and it's actually very difficult to "force" a singular solution with as few elements and connections as possible, which is why I feel this map is an accomplishment. But again, this particular version of the puzzle is inferior to what was achieved in hammer.
TS_Mind_Swept 20 Mar, 2017 @ 3:35pm
It's just that you have to go back and forth a lot and it seems quite repetitive and a bit tiresome, it makes one feel like progress isn't really being made cause they keep having to revisit the same area and do roughly the same thing with only a few minor changes. A good and consistent feeling of progress is needed to keep the players's interest in a puzzle, if they don't feel like they're progressing, they'll either loose interest, or just think it's impossible and give up. At the same time, if they progress too quickly, when they finish the test they'll feel unaccomplished, like as if there really wasn't a point to what they had done. Granted there are some that like this sort of test, but what I conciser a 'good test' is one with that perfect balance. Anyway, just wanted to yank your chain a bit about that.

@TS_Mind_Swept Thanks for your review, but I must say that I disagree with your conclusion that the ending is disappointing (or that anything you say couldn't change my mind, which is wrong). This particular version of the puzzle suffers from the limitations of the editor and it has some minor routing flaws that are hard to spot unless you're looking for them, but over all I'm proud with the result and puzzle concepts in this test. The minimized number of portal surfaces is more of a beneficial side effect of the design constrains than it is a design challenge/target/preference, but I personally think that the more uses you can get out of a single surface: the better the puzzle it is. :)
TS_Mind_Swept 19 Mar, 2017 @ 11:46pm
I watched your solution video and it seems like after all that work all you get is a little bounce to the exit and that's it; it just seems kind of disappointing. I know you love them, but I'm not entirely sure you're obsession with using the fewest possible portal surfaces is for the best. I'm also positive that saying all of this isn't going to change how you make puzzles in the slightest, but I felt it needed to be said. And hey, if nothing else, at least you know what I think about it, not that you entirely care I'm sure. :papyrus:

Why do your maps always have a bunch of stuff in'em?

Even though I just played toncica's remake, I still had some major difficulties solving it again here. this has got to be one of the hardest portal 2 puzzles...ever!
I see there's a flip panel now - I really like that. Erasing the portal with the piston platform wasn't the best idea in the last version.
All other cosmetic changes are also welcome.
And...I guess I have nothing else to say. Thumbs up!

excellent, excellent. took me 2 days but finally got it.
RedSilencer  [author] 22 Aug, 2016 @ 8:07am
I can't remember if toncica and I tried that, but this map was certainly a hassle to keep updated. I wish the system was easier to use, but it's up now and I have no intention of updating it as of right now. If I do, I'll just hope for the best and put it up anyway just so I know in the future that there is a version that is current and most complete...
RedSilencer  [author] 22 Aug, 2016 @ 6:41am
Thanks, lib! Toncica is known to say some funny stuff. Quotable. :)

Couldn't have done it without you! Your puzzle exists completely within this puzzle, just with very subtle yet complicated changes. Thanks for playing!

Finally i played this and wow i have to say that was awesome. Its very well put together and extremely challenging!
RedSilencer  [author] 4 Jul, 2016 @ 9:16am
@temporarymanswastaken Thanks for commenting! I apologize for the republish, I'm getting tired of it too. Not because I don't want to update my map, but because I honestly can't force the update into the (currently published) page. :/

I opted for the flip panel over the fizzle-surface for a few reasons. 1) it forces the player to go the longest route by cutting out 2 benign 1-way loops in the puzzle, 2) it hints to the player what is to be done with the light bridge, and 3) it makes the shot from the pit slightly easier
toncica 4 Jul, 2016 @ 6:16am
Oh wow, I didn't notice the flip panel in this version. Ironically I have abandoned the flip panel in mine.

Iterative develpment in action. At least I have a lot of experience with this particular puzzle now.

I see you've adopted toncica's use of a flip panel near the piston platform.

@MustardRice, how did you even get here? You're like a guy going to a chess club and complaining that they're not playing ping pong.

This puzzle is designed as a puzzle. It is logical and well-constructed, unless I have otherwise made a mistake by design...

where do i even start, its just so cryptic and unfun
