HL1 takes place in the 2000s, the game was made in the 90s
VldTheRus 24 Sep, 2023 @ 6:15am
doesn't make sense, half-life 1 takes place in '90-s and half-life 2 is around 20 years after half-life

Black Mesa takes place in the early 2000s. This is accurate if you think the game takes place in 2001 or later.

windows longhorn monitors?

A scientist in Anomalous Materials mentions the ROFLcopter meme, which first appeared in 2003. This is consistent with Laidlaw's date provided in Raising the Bar, which would make this mod ideal if one were to do a playthrough with that in mind.

need download link
WYDStepcat 17 May, 2021 @ 11:18am
Can you send source? i'm genuinely curious.
Plisehon 17 May, 2021 @ 10:17am
no it was actually in 2000 as officially proved by valve or gearbox
WYDStepcat 24 Jun, 2020 @ 3:55am
Well. now its cannon that it takes place either in 2001 or 2002. so yeah windows xp makes the most sense.
mrglanet 5 Jun, 2020 @ 8:12am
@Jonah Yes it does. I use this myself.
Jonah 25 Mar, 2020 @ 10:33am
Does this work with 1.0?
To Be Frank 3 Oct, 2018 @ 8:30am
I agree with Hedy on this. The assets for the Aperture Science Projector slides in Portal actually use Windows Powerpoint's assets for Windows XP at the time so this or 98 would be the most ideal for your game.
Hedy 19 Jun, 2018 @ 8:41am
the events of Half-Life 1 take place somewhere around 2000 and 2009. However, a note by Marc Laidlaw seen in Raising the Bar mentions the exact date of 2003. While it's not exactly canon, we can draw conclusions from this. Windows XP came out in 2001. Therefore, out of all the monitor screen mods, this one makes the most sense in the lore.
Jonah 4 Mar, 2018 @ 8:53pm
Since Half life 1 takes place in the early 2000s, this makes sense.
Elevna 18 Jan, 2018 @ 7:56am
the black mesa incident occured because the GMAN talked the scientists into raising the anti-mass spectrometer too high.
Radiocaster 20 Dec, 2017 @ 5:56am
@Cyberman Not sure if this is a joke, but no, the Black Mesa Incident happened because of all the computer failures and malfunctions. In Blue Shift when an elevator breaks, some scientists specifiaclly say that "It must be those anomalous materials people again, always pushing their computers too hard." This means that the scientists in anomalous materials are known for causing problems for themselves and in other parts of the facility. So there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the Black Mesa Incident was just due to the scientists in anomalous materials pushing their computers too hard, having them break, and therefore create a resonance cascade putting the entire facility in anarchy.
Xyoth 30 Aug, 2016 @ 3:24pm
In response to Joe, The Black Mesa Incident itself roughly occurred on May 16th 2003, with the Resonance Cascade occurring 8:58AM. Latter events occurred on the 17th:bms:

Doesn't work even though I exracted it to my custom folder, and told the gameinfo.txt to read the custom files.
Aarik  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 1:00pm
@Not Blue Problebly not. The workshop has been broken for a long time. Just use the custom folder method for now.

I'm pretty sure the black mesa incident happend somewhere at the beginning of the 2000's. Most likley around: 2000 - 2005
Λnion 13 Jul, 2016 @ 5:14am
@Keith
Knew that, friend. I was saying that the belief that it was Gordon's first day in Black Mesa was retconned too.

Best mod ever for black mesa :2016popsicle:

the disaster was not caused by computers, nor the technology itself. It was an inside job, and the administrators didn't listen to any warnings.
Hit-Bit 7 Jul, 2016 @ 8:18pm
If you think about everything that went wrong at Black Mesa, I would rather expect them using Windows Me :Rubber_Duck:
Stud Kickass 6 Jul, 2016 @ 7:06pm
And the memories brout back by this addon.
Shit.
Stud Kickass 6 Jul, 2016 @ 7:06pm
@Ottawa, you are speaking the truth, but it's not Gordon's first day at Black Mesa, proved by the fact everyone knows him in the A.M. facility, and proved because of the amount of beers Barney Calahoune owes him.
Λnion 6 Jul, 2016 @ 1:27am
@The Doctor
Laidlaw, the main writer for the Half-Life series, somehow goofed when it came to his own creaton?
The notion that 1998 is the year in which the Black Mesa Incident occurred has already been retconned by Laidlaw himself, alongside the belief that Gordon's first day at work is on the same day as the Incident. May 16th, 200X is the established date in which the Black Mesa Incident occurs.
Rustyle 5 Jul, 2016 @ 9:58pm
that windows great

nice
Nic5 Cyprus 5 Jul, 2016 @ 1:18pm
The Black Mesa incident took place at some point between 2000-2009 (some say probably in 2003) so Windows Xp was made when the events of the game happen
AggresiveSalesmen 5 Jul, 2016 @ 1:18pm
hope theres no ear rape windows start up
:steamhappy:
The Doctor 5 Jul, 2016 @ 11:56am
@General Gravel
In the official Half-Life timeline, Half-Life takes place in the 90s, or around 1998 to be specific. So me thinks Laidlaw goofed
Sr Rndom 5 Jul, 2016 @ 11:31am
Its Black Mesa, they can Afford it
Grevon 5 Jul, 2016 @ 9:49am
Actually, Half-Life takes place between 2000, and 2009 as said by Marc Laidlaw himself.
blehmeh98 5 Jul, 2016 @ 8:25am
Half Life takes place in the 90's, meaning that with this addon, Black Mesa were bribing the crap out of Bill Gates so they could get a fancy new operating system earlier.
