Best workshop plane was fun for hours

Thanks for the comments Benny - Yes, Madwands LUA script includes options for flocking, so they will tend to look for other A-10s and form up in formation.

This is such a awsome creation. i have two in a seperate fleet and they kill everything before my 3 main offensive fleets even arrive. looking at what these aicraft do in battle obviously mean that you have put some pretty good time and effort into this vehicle and is it meant to pull a perfect formation with multiple of them?
Kethrian  [author] 27 Jul, 2016 @ 10:31pm
Yes in the form of a LUA script that replaces the aerial AI card
heywhatyoudoin 27 Jul, 2016 @ 8:53pm
does this have ai?

Todays Change Notes:

Additional Huge Jet added to provide stability and increase speed slightly

Tweaked LUA:
Should disengage rather than spending time orbiting the target
Should have a slightly higher chance to dodge missiles
Should change over more smoothly from rolling into yawing. though this is still occuring and not having much luck fixing it

Modified flairs - now bigger, still dont seem to be detering those IR seekers too well though.

Added Smoke launchers to act as "Chaff" when laser targeted

Tweaked cockpit shap using new 3 length blocks

Rotated missile gantries to improve missile launch

Replaced guidance fin with additional Sabot body for GAU rounds - will have to see if this works out

Sidewinders now use an additional fin to improve agility and use ejectors to prevent missiles bouncing off the wings- Good results so far

Additional heavy armour plates on the tail section wher it almost always gets hit by missiles

thx for reading, i already got the point, but i guess writing its looks nice was not enough :P so.. nice replica :steamhappy:
Kethrian  [author] 24 Jul, 2016 @ 6:32am
You havent offended me, I just think youve missed the point. Its a replica, and as such Ive tried to get the size, proportions and weapons as close to the original as possible... so no shields etc and the A10 is a terrible shape for FtD mechanics, with the engines mounted so high up, so speed is an issue if it is ever going to fly. So its not going to compete with shielded frigates etc and there is no value in comparing it
Wächter 24 Jul, 2016 @ 6:07am
You don't have to read it, i don't want to offend you, it's just to make sure that i made nothing wrong becouse i'm a Noob: My setup: two frigates of mine ( with two small shields protecting the turrets) and four A-10's vs one Plunderer, two Paddlegunners and two Marauders. The resoults: only one A-10 landed in the water, the overs had minor to none damage. But with out the four A-10's, the battle went not mutch longer. The mainguns of frigates are realy good against Wood-Metal Armor so i don't know ft the test made just no sense. (225mmx4m, 180rpm, 7xGunpowder,1 Stabiliser Fin, 7x Frag warhead ~11,5° 238 Fragments, 212 Fragment damage, Composite head)
Wächter 24 Jul, 2016 @ 5:03am
ill try
Kethrian  [author] 24 Jul, 2016 @ 4:23am
really sorry its not OP enough for you. Ill get working on that triple shielded, engine stacked, 200m/s flying box right away!

BTW, 1 on 1 testing doesnt really tell you much unless youre planning on running the campaign with just one ship. Try adding something to tank the damage and let it do its job of supporting.
Wächter 24 Jul, 2016 @ 3:50am
It realy looks cool, but it's not op. I think for the resources it's ok, but not great. It lost against a paddlegunner so... maybe that's not as bad as i think, but not good enough for me, sorry that i'm complaining so much at least it looks realy nice

hey mate just wondering whats the volume of this thing

If you figure out how to compact the setup, you can actually get a better sustrained fire in some cases, this is usually with medium or larger cannons though. (That is why you see GreyTalons use ammo clips on many small ships but not on larger ones.) Most of the clipless cannons on my aircraft are pretty huge and take up a bit of interior space, not like a more simple rotating turret.
Kethrian  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 8:42pm
Clips are useful when you need to maintain sustained fire, such as on the Glen Avon I linked you. It has enough space to allow for clips and will use all the ammo, as it is turreted and can shoot all the time, as long as the enemy is within its range limits.

Belt fed autos are useful for rapid fire guns that have to be packed into a very small space, (check out the Glen Avons machine gun turrets above the paddle wheels). They normally have few compnents but achieve a high fire rate for a decent sustain time, then have to reload for a long time... they will never be a GAU, but you can make some nice rapid fire guns from them
Kethrian  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 8:41pm
2 part answer
The reason the GAU doesnt have clips is that it only needs to fire a short burst and then circles round for another pass, by which time each auto loader has another shell in. so 25 auto loaders equals a 25 round burst before a (comparatively) long reload. At max fire rate, the gun would not be able to unload much more than 25 shells without ALOT more cooling ang significant accuracy penalties, so adding clips would be pointless, and changing the 25 autoloaders for 3 or 4 belt fed with clips would add the clip-to-autoloader time into the equation and slow things down further.
fluster cuck 21 Jul, 2016 @ 4:54pm
I'm assuming that's when the complexity load factor negates the benefit of clips and/or whenever beltfeds are being used, right?
Videogames 21 Jul, 2016 @ 9:24am
(Clips are pointless on basically all ammo cannons because the shell chambering time is always way slower than the clip filling time. The MLG prostrat like he said is to just put a crap ton of autoloaders with shell inputs direclty on them. I use the design on all my jet fighters for BULLET LASERS OF DEATH XD )

Thanks a lot!
Kethrian  [author] 20 Jul, 2016 @ 6:24am
Its an 8 length cannon, with 4(?) gauge increasers, 16 coolers, 20m of recoil absorb. Its designed to fire a short burst on each pass so doesnt need clips, it just has 25 autoloaders with a single input on each one. Shell is all sabot with a base bleeder to give it 31 AP and good speed. The gun is overclocked severely to allow it to shoot fast enough to get the 25 rounds out fast enough, this totally screws the accuracy, but the gun is more cosmetic than effective!

I dont think the GAU would make a good AA gun, check this ship out for some AA examples.

Question: How much of each component are you running in the GAU? I'm trying to create some AA firepower for my capital ship, but everything I've produced so far has sucked ass

Small changes to Weapon Systems today:
Some of the missiles now switched to radar guided to more reliably attack the main target
Laser designator moved onto targeting pod
Kethrian  [author] 18 Jul, 2016 @ 4:07am
Because 30mm does no damage to anything and looks really small on the front

Bear in mind that block size is 1m, which means it is impossible to make most of these planes to scale, so the gun sizes also need to increase

Good Job M8
Why is The Avenger Not a 30mm Sabot?
I'm not american so i don't care about it
