i would interpret it more as a consent to uplaod a fixed version towards that person and not a general consent.

Hi, it seems this mod has a gigantic potential for survival MP games! Would it be possible to update it please? It suffers from many bugs the community already tried to patch but it seems it's always easier to rework its own project! :D

Hopefully some other people are as happy to see this working in modern Space Engineers as I am.
I've already started a new survival world with nothing in my inventory, and it's been great.
Lots of walking, lots of sight-seeing, lots of appreciating vehicles and infrastructure so much more.

While I think a colab would be really awesome, I think I would hold you back more then anything else because I'm just too invested at work right now. So of course you have the permission to upload your fixed version!

I think Cynthon wouldn't mind, if you gave him credit. Also Darian, the backpack inventory after save has always been wonky even in Vanilla. Just stash your stuff in cargo or cryo.

Also, as a bonus, I added 'AwwScrap' compatibility to the suit refinery, making starting with nothing even more possible, especially with the recently-released 'Abandoned Settlements' mod.

I've managed to get this mod working on the current version of Space Engineers!
It even seems to work in Multiplayer.
I haven't managed to fix the whole 'keep backpack inventory after save' issue (Every attempt has led to crashes so far), but the mod is functional!
Would I have permission to upload my fixed version to my own workshop for ease of future updates (Since co-authors on Steam can't actually update mods), or would you rather I collaborate with you?

to be fair, you _can_ get the Powerkits and Medkits from vending machines. They should have a scenario start with like, a crate of those and a drill.

this is something that KEEN should have done to begin with... ever since this mod broke, me and my friends have been bummed out. nothing really beats starting with just your suit and hoping to either find an easy ship to capture or an icy rock to call home for a bit while you piece together a simple transport. it even adds in more versatility in mid and late game due to not having to depend on running back to your ship to recover air or energy... WHY DO ALL THE GREATS HAVE TO BREAK?!

I remember having the ability to essentially start with a drill and nothing else, and even can hop asteroid to asteroid to survive, using your suit refinery and a little ice. Made for some epic and immersive play style

Cool. Well if you ever come up with something new that works I'll definitely be using it. You make great mods dude usually adds something that's just perfect for my solo survival worlds. Have used a number of them over the years. Big thanks for Industrial Sized, Energy Shields, and Power Transmitters!

The hardest, or rather most "experimental", stuff is the custom UI you have to develop. But that tech can be used to integrate other functionality into this system later. According to my RnD all of that is doable.

For example a custom radial UI with mouse control and selection where you choose things to craft, and a custom resource processor logic that simply transforms one stuff to something else over time, using space engineers blueprints. Then you connect the UI input to client-server-communcation and you're good.

Didn't you say you had an idea for how to approach this mod in current-day Space Engineers?
I'd be interested in seeing that come to fruition, or some kind of plan laid out that other modders could potentially follow.

Aside from art assets, there is nothing you can update or reuse unfortunately. You have to redevelop it from the ground up with a completely different approach. :(

some enterprising individual really needs to make an updated version of this as I've wanted this functionality in Space Engineers since the beginning and when I finally find it it doesn't work

I'd love to see this working again, but it doesn't seem likely.
I remember how great it was for recovering after a crash, and for the most minimal of starts you can have.
I enjoyed walking around a planet, slowly gathering resources until I could build a tiny rover.
It really helps give you a sense of scale.
And nowadays, it might be even better, since you could upgrade to a survival kit or basic assembler instead of going for the full-blown thing, making it a bit easier to get started.
It genuinely made me appreciate the land, learning paths and, for one of the first times in SE history, getting me to remember and navigate by landmarks!

how early are you finding out that it doesnt work anymore? it already stopped working properly around a year before the survival update and was killed with the survival update so you are over a year late

I wouldn't have guessed that it's because the backpack had disabled physics; I thought it only really broke after the security update which made you disconnect from the terminal of a block if it was too far away from you, and the backpack is always too far. I thought it might work if you moved the backpack to the player while they had its terminal open.

They actually whitelisted the necessary stuff after I talked to them, which was really nice.

Unfortunately, the issue is more that the backpack is a "disabled physics" object and due to massive amounts of optimizations on their end, those are getting basically disabled for calculations and stuff.

A complete rewrite and using just a different method of achieving the things the mod did is certainly possible. I just don't have the time for that right now because Im currently finishing my bachelor's degree. I will eventually get back to it, I just don't know when exactly.

As far as I know, Keen removed and/or blocked the pieces of the mod API that allowed this - thus a Keen problem nod mod. It has also been more than a year, so I wouldn't hold your breath. I too never got to try this.

I only actually started with just this once, but it was so much fun and very satisfying to get a rover going and lessen the trek to the ice lake by half an hour or so.
It was a unique experience, walking around a planet searching for stuff, avoiding enemy bases, and slowly getting the resources together for transportation. Oh, now I really miss this mod!

Just got back into playing space engineers, was so sad to see this mod isn't working at the moment! This mod is one of my all time favorites. I hope it gets brought back to a working state in the future.
