"Difficulty: Medium" lol

Whew! Hard map. Took several hours. Great work!
Wheaties 23 Jul, 2014 @ 10:23pm
Wow! I love how this level is the un-ruined version of the previous chamber. It's super cool to see how it changes the test. Props, mate. :)
schovan 24 Sep, 2013 @ 4:01am
Very hard map, but very good.
Stratos  [author] 21 Aug, 2013 @ 7:17am
Thanks for the feedback piripiago! That's a convoluted solution as far as I understand it, but okay. ;) As for getting trapped, just reloading or stepping into the grid would do the trick as wall, although it may be frustrating. I tried to add as many autosaves without bothering players as possible, hoping that would be enough.
piripiago 16 Aug, 2013 @ 11:23am
You could answer the problem of being able to trap yourself in between the laser grid and the ledge by putting in a small step to the far right. Would being able to go through that direction break anything? The emancipation grid clears your portals and resests the cube blocking the laser, so I think it would be just like moving the cube and portaling through anyway.

I solved the first puzzle, but then found a two cube answer to the second puzzle. :) working backwards from the laser receiver I knew I needed a cube to redirect from the second relay into the receiver. Then I tried to find an angle that I could hit the first relay by only using panels that I could portal on from the other side of the laser grid. screenshot (A lot of finicky moving of the cube on the right though.) I then moved the blue portal to get into the exit door and replaced it to leave.

Complicated, but fun puzzle.
Stratos  [author] 12 Jul, 2013 @ 8:24am
Awesome! Not many people do seem to find the solution I think, so nice job.
Erdschüttler 3 Jul, 2013 @ 4:40pm
Yay, finally found the solution! Took me almost an hour. Part I can be tricky, but you don't have to rest the cubes. Part II is pretty straight forward, but difficult none the less.
Stratos  [author] 21 Jun, 2013 @ 6:41pm
Well, mikemoody, someone must have figured it out without help, at least one person. :P But yeah, this map is really quite hard, it's just that the website this was originally uploaded to (before the workshop existed), ThinkingWithPortals.com , has a lot of portal veterans in it that put these maps to shame.

Also, the fact that this map relies on laser relays and turrets for most of the difficulty doesn't really fill me with pride. It's kinda' cheap, but it was a simpler time.
wildgoosespeeder 4 Apr, 2013 @ 12:43pm
Turret ambushes are annoying. I hate maps like this.
mikemoody 20 Mar, 2013 @ 8:58pm
Thanks again for the play time, but this map is "Very Hard"... I had to watch a video to figure it out and then had to rewatch the video to finish it..... I hate laser lights anyway so maybe it is just me :) I just don't think there is anyway someone can figure the end out without help.
I did like all your maps tho. I hope you make some more.
Soliolangley 7 Feb, 2013 @ 11:59am
Why there is no music in this map ?
Stratos  [author] 25 Jan, 2013 @ 3:13pm
There's tutorials online, though to be honest I think you found a loophole (bug) because that is not the intended solution. This map may be a bit counter-intuitive, so I understand your confusion.
Slimpack 22 Jan, 2013 @ 3:25pm
It took me a while to finish this puzzle. Also, for the last room I only used two cubes and I never activated all of the "1" laser receivers, only the all of the "2' receivers. was that the intended solution? If it wasn't than I have no idea what the intended solution was.
Stratos  [author] 27 Dec, 2012 @ 2:41pm
Yeah, that's true, it's not the best. It's a punishing map, I guess I'm reluctant to change it because it's an advanced version of another map, meaning I shouldn't be helping people to much. But you're right, it's one more unnecessary death. Still, there are checkpoints so you only need to redo the room when your progress is limited. Thanks for pointing this out though.
The Filet-O-Fish® 13 Nov, 2012 @ 2:46pm
I don't like how you can get yourself stuck if you walk through the field in the second room from the turret side. You can't jump on the ledge since it's too high, and the lasers will kill you, so your only choice is to start the whole room over by killing yourself.
Stratos  [author] 5 Oct, 2012 @ 1:52pm
You're not the first, but let me just say that while this does not say anything about your intelligence, it does validify your perseverence, I'm sure. ;) I'd try to fix it but that would be a lot of effort for such a result. Thanks for sharing though. ;)
nahog99 2 Oct, 2012 @ 5:50pm
I have a solution to this map that only requires two cubes for the last part. This is not the intended solution, so either I am a friggin genius or really dumb for not getting the real solution..
Stratos  [author] 16 Sep, 2012 @ 10:36am
Hmm, I have never noticed anything like that. The maps isn't really 'old' or anything, so that can't be it. :S
Stric_Matic 16 Sep, 2012 @ 9:18am
Just to clarifiy - it's not an issue with low framerates or the old heavy stuttering on maps with lasers, it's a kind of micro-stutter or skipping of frames that 's sometimes barely noticable. sometimes happens on maps w/o lasers as well and can be pretty annoying if you've got the eye for it.

Walking forward and backward I don't get any, for example. Usually when using the strafe movement buttons.
Stric_Matic 16 Sep, 2012 @ 9:14am
Both this and nthe normal difficulty version are one fo those maps where I get this ''choppy'' camera movement, even though the framerate is 60+. Kinda similar to the old stuttering on laser maps before Valve fixed. Does the author or anyone else have any idea what's causing it?
It's also more noticable when I strafe left or right or hold bothe the backwards and left or right movement buttons. Could it be a peculiar issue with P2's version of the Source Engine?
Stratos  [author] 16 Sep, 2012 @ 6:40am
Oh, that's an interesting bug. I've never thought about that (or heard about it) so thanks for sharing the info.
Calmly Frenetic 16 Sep, 2012 @ 6:14am
The first part of the second chamber was taking me too long to figure out, so I skipped on to the second part and found a non-intended solution (probably the same "bypass" as Shark 2 below). Here's a screenshot .
Stratos  [author] 13 Sep, 2012 @ 9:50am
I'll see what I can do next time, Inspirata. ;) Thanks a lot for the feedback! It seems you solved it correctly, though, so great job! You're right, the map is quite harsh and rough around the edges.

And it's funny you say "a third" as 34% - that's pretty damn close - seems to dislike the test. D: Ah well, this one wasn't meant for a popularity contest.
The Sojourner 11 Sep, 2012 @ 2:40am
I got through the first part just fine (I can see several solutions possible). It took me more a couple of hours to solve the second part... and I was kicking myself when I saw the solution! Normally I don't need hints, but this time I did. I'm just glad I could solve it. :P

Players are not normally used to holding up cubes in the air to temporarily activate a cube dropper, which could partially explain the extreme agony you have given to about a third of your test subjects. I also found myself a little confused as to what was relevant and how.

That said, your chamber was perhaps beyond advanced. It's extreme! Now could you please spare us all a little bit more and not have to make us jump across goo on tiny little pillars?

Stratos  [author] 2 Sep, 2012 @ 6:24am
Bypassed? How?
don't kill me 1 Sep, 2012 @ 8:19pm
I bypassed the first part of the second stage and beat the map :D:D:D
Stratos  [author] 17 Aug, 2012 @ 4:07pm
@Hell Diguner: I hope you still managed to enjoy the map then, but congrats on finishing the map anyway, great job! ;)

(I can see 35% of people that voted on the map downvoted it, so it probably is frustrating.)
HeliGungir 17 Aug, 2012 @ 3:50pm
This map is ----ing evil. But I beat it withoug cheating or getting help. HA! >:-)

I completed the puzzles the way you intended except for taking care of the second pair of turrets, I did those a harder way. Every step of the way I got screwed by something being finicky. Quite frustrating. Getting the (third) cube had me stumped for quite a long time.
Stratos  [author] 5 Aug, 2012 @ 7:01am
Hahah, no problem. I'm glad there's a roof on your puzzle solving ease. :P
ModFire 1 Aug, 2012 @ 8:34pm
This WAS HARD, Sorry, I had to cheat (watch youtube) :(
Thanks Reaper
Stratos  [author] 31 Jul, 2012 @ 9:54am
Yes, that is definitely good enough. Twisting the cube around is unfortunate, but I know that technique already. Nothing I did to try and fix it seemed to help. And the stepping stones were meant for that, although there was an easier way to get to the platform. ;)

Anway, thanks for the feedback and good job solving it. :D
UnableRogue 31 Jul, 2012 @ 8:31am
The first time I attempted this map I acquired the laser cube the way shown in the video.
The way I just did it tonight was by sorta twisting it around one of the 2 laser beacons in the corner. I know that sounds weird but I don't know how to explain it any other way.
Opening the exit though was harder for me. I carried the cube while jumping on the platforms in the water. That was a pain in the a***

So combining both attempts at this map I did actually solve it in the intended manner.
Stratos  [author] 31 Jul, 2012 @ 8:03am
This video is as intended, though some mistakes were made that make the video really long. Don't feel forced to watch the whole thing.
UnableRogue 31 Jul, 2012 @ 7:45am
Thanks :D Finally was able to give this map a thumbs up since I completed it. I didn't use any ninja moves but idk what the intended solution is. Do you have a vid of it?
Stratos  [author] 31 Jul, 2012 @ 7:37am
Yay, congrats UnableRouge, that's great to hear! :D Now I only hope you got the intended solution and not some easier method. :P
UnableRogue 31 Jul, 2012 @ 7:14am
yes Yes YES!!! I can't believe I didn't see it before. That first room only took seconds. Funny enough in the second room I found it harder to aim the lasers to get the cube than it was to exit the door. :D
Stratos  [author] 30 Jul, 2012 @ 10:44am
Wow, great! Good job, really, I've had reports of multiple people not finishing it. I'm happy to see you going through (almost) all my maps. ^^
SHEG 30 Jul, 2012 @ 10:42am
I nearly got mad.. but I finally finished it :D
UnableRogue 21 Jul, 2012 @ 7:28am
BAHAHAHAHA
Stratos  [author] 21 Jul, 2012 @ 7:21am
Hah yeah, to be honest I'm already glad you didn't break the puzzle. >:D
UnableRogue 21 Jul, 2012 @ 7:14am
Well when I completed the laser to its destination I wasnt in the room were the exit door was. I was trapped on the other side of the fizzler and the portal was on the other side of the water. I did have a spare laser cube so I guess I could have figured it out..........eventually...........maybe.
Stratos  [author] 21 Jul, 2012 @ 7:01am
So... You got all three checkmarks, but couldn't undo them from that last chamber half to get through the double doors ?

Anyway, don't fret about nog solving the map, it's a pretty hard one. Especially that second chamber. ;) And thank you for being so understanding as to not rate it down, really appreciate it.
UnableRogue 20 Jul, 2012 @ 5:44pm
The weird thing is that I got all 3 ticks on the last door and I have a spare cube I didn't use.
UnableRogue 20 Jul, 2012 @ 5:41pm
My primitive brain could not figure out how to get through the last door. That being the case I do not like the map. It isn't a bad map though. I just don't like it because I cant solve it. I dare not give it a thumbs down though because you are an awesome (evil) map maker.
Stratos  [author] 8 Jul, 2012 @ 12:58pm
Glad you solved it though, and don't worry, not getting this one right away is why this map is "Advanced".
1980 7 Jul, 2012 @ 8:50pm
actually, i had to watch a walkthrough on by half. but i managed to satisfy the rest three dorr lights without seeing any walkthough. it took a great deal of time to adjust the locations of the cubes and portals.
Stratos  [author] 1 Jul, 2012 @ 5:21am
Thanks for the feedback DEATH, and nicely structured. I do, however, feel obliged to have a good laugh at your expense, if that's allright. :P
Le Petit Mort 30 Jun, 2012 @ 5:15pm
Possibly the hardest Portal puzzle you will ever solve.

I had to look up a tutorial to solve the first phase of the second camber, I would never have thought to do that.

Pros:
• Immaculately well constructed puzzle;

Cons:
• Smashing your keyboard to pieces and running out of the room screaming like a madman after having spent the past two hours staring at the same panel to no avail;
