Hey, is it possible to make the mod harsher?
Currently if an exclave is owned by a vassal who is generally connected to the main kingdom, the exclave can stay within the realm for 1-2 ruler deaths.

Little heads up for everyone who thinks the vanilla exclave independence is a substitute for this:

IT'S NOT. It doesn't work.

I use a number of other mods, one being a mod where revolts sometimes break up into independent kingdoms. On such was an empire of Ohrid, which was a horrible bordergore empire with small exclaves all over the game world. No matter how many times I killed its emperor via console commands, the exclaves remained. It wasn't until I used this mod when they finally broke apart.

And yes, this does work with the vanilla game rules. And yes, it does work with the current version of the game.

@masonbaldassano i want to know that too
Kisigi 8 Oct, 2022 @ 11:02pm
@jruderman, could you make a version that happen like 10 years instead upon death, or maybe help me to do a personal one at least xD
Kisigi 27 Oct, 2021 @ 8:37pm
@Greatot it work greatly
Greatot 11 Feb, 2021 @ 8:04pm
No longer seems to work?
Kisigi 1 Sep, 2020 @ 9:18pm
Make this mod in CK3 too please :(
masonbaldassano 20 Mar, 2020 @ 11:50am
if i turn on the vanilla exclave indipendence does it cancel out the mod
falhxer 16 Aug, 2019 @ 3:03am
Very useful for whom still plays WTWSMS, "cries in slow updates..."
Tony5ify 24 Jul, 2019 @ 4:10pm
I dont think so
Pungent Raindeer King 26 May, 2019 @ 3:32pm
Quick note - this is now available as a default rule as of Holy Fury. :)

Can u make that ai exclaves can be purged during or after a war?
Jimbo 27 Dec, 2018 @ 10:39am
Good mod, much better than the one compared to what paradox offers now. However, is it possible you could new game rules based on distance from your capital as well? for example, anything over 200 miles from your capital could have a chance to break away from you? rather than over 2 sea zones for example? I see so much potential here.

love this mod, man! great work.
jruderman  [author] 9 Dec, 2018 @ 10:50am
This mod only adds new files, so it's likely to work with overhauls. Previous comments indicate that it seems to work with CK2+ and with HIP.
Kami 9 Dec, 2018 @ 2:11am
Not relevant right now as they're still being updated but is this compatible with overhauls?
jruderman  [author] 5 Dec, 2018 @ 9:32pm
Updated to fix a syntax error that CKII 3.0's improved parser complained about. I don't think it kept the mod from working, but wanted to be on the safe side.
jruderman  [author] 5 Dec, 2018 @ 9:30pm
I wasn't able to reproduce the "new characters have no traits" issue. (I gave c_genoa to the Duke of Apulia, then killed him; the character generated to be ruler of c_genoa had an education trait and some personality traits.)
......... 5 Dec, 2018 @ 6:49pm
dude update please your mod is better than vanilla exclave independence
巴伐利亚啤酒馆 30 Nov, 2018 @ 10:44pm
New characters have no traits
Kisigi 28 Nov, 2018 @ 7:56pm
i think i need to disable the vanilla exclave and choose only of the mod?
Kisigi 26 Nov, 2018 @ 9:38am
Please, keep updated, vanilla is not good enough, even in the most severe option.
Comrade Hexaborg 21 Nov, 2018 @ 8:19pm
I love the rule which directly allows you to limit the naval distance! Frankly, they should add that option into the base game alongside the current game rule they have for exclave independence. Well thought out!
coeurdelion 15 Nov, 2018 @ 12:13pm
In case you were thinking of taking this down, I want to say I still like your take on this better than Paradox's implementation.
Panzrim 13 Nov, 2018 @ 11:20am
best mod ever
technical.difficulty 4 Nov, 2018 @ 1:34pm
Oh my god I hope this is the solution to CK2 bordergore
Holz 14 Sep, 2018 @ 10:10am
does it work with hip?
♠️Meticulous Bush Snake♠ 6 Sep, 2018 @ 4:46am
Cheers for the update mate, good mod.
pineloupe 5 Sep, 2018 @ 7:44pm
Thanks for the update. Will be using this in my current WC game. Will hopefully be very useful.
jruderman  [author] 5 Sep, 2018 @ 7:21pm
Updated to fix several issues and add in-game notifications when you lose or gain vassals.

Full change notes
Basileus Red Rain 29 Aug, 2018 @ 9:27am
Will this work with HIP?
jruderman  [author] 28 Jun, 2018 @ 11:49pm
That is correct. Creating the Kingdom of Sicily is one way to avoid losing the land.
Katos 28 Jun, 2018 @ 4:18am
>De jure lands are the provinces under all of the dying ruler's primary-tier titles

Does this mean for example, that if I am both the king of Ireland and Sicily, I will not lose Sicily, but if I only hold duchies in Sicily, they will be lost?
Vanguard 3 Jun, 2018 @ 11:47pm
You are a legend, I think you may have inspired Paradox to add this feature to the base game.
Enriador 1 Jun, 2018 @ 5:59pm
Hmm, indeed, the megawar system may screw up with empires. I play mostly smaller independent rulers so it was never a problem for me.

Thankfully, Paradox will add its own Exclave Independence rule, and it will be somewhat more powerful and flexible. Big thanks to @jruderman for making this mod and cutting the border gore of so many of my games!
Lars 1 Jun, 2018 @ 8:37am
Doesnt really work for the AGOT mod, I have it set to no sea zones if not de jure and Pentos still remains under the Iron Throne albeit going "independent" at succession. I suspect the civil war rules might be at play here.
coeurdelion 25 May, 2018 @ 3:45pm
Incidentally, it would be great if you kept this mod up regardless of what gets implemented in the game rules. Nice to be able to check the mod on and off as desired rather than getting stuck with what rules one's chosen.
Viss Valdyr 13 Apr, 2018 @ 12:14am
@wyoming: if it would be my mod, I would feel awesome. Mods are not "stolen" by the devs. Since you don't have owning rights on them to begin with...
Donald Trump 9 Apr, 2018 @ 9:06am
Will this mod still be up after Paradox announced their bordergore-fix? I hope it does, I like this implementation a lot better!
Valikdu 8 Apr, 2018 @ 5:03pm
DIE BORDERGORE DIE!!!
Enriador 21 Feb, 2018 @ 4:50am
@G.Strategos

I am not the mod author, but as far as I know 1) it's compatible with HIP and pretty much every other mod, even total conversions like AGOT and 2) there are no CBs.
Panzrim 10 Feb, 2018 @ 6:59am
Best mod ever :)
G.Strategos 22 Dec, 2017 @ 1:02pm
@jruderman
Hey mate. Thanks for your mod.
I have a question though. What about HIP compatibility ? Your mod includes any CBs at all ?
Cheers.
Mausklickmoerder 10 Dec, 2017 @ 8:30am
I was very sceptical at first, mostly because the mod seems not to factor in demesne/vassal limit, but the results are fabulous. The world feels really dynamic and naturally evolving, and unreasonable is much less an issue now.
ambi 7 Dec, 2017 @ 10:57am
This mod is brilliant.
Enriador 7 Dec, 2017 @ 6:45am
I think the mod's default should be "Two sea zones"; which is compatible with most of CK2's limits (e.g. the holy war CB). The current default makes William of Normandy lose, well, Normandy as soon as succession happens.
Pyre 18 Nov, 2017 @ 4:04am
Thank you for the quick response. That's actually the default setting I was hoping for.
jruderman  [author] 18 Nov, 2017 @ 3:33am
The default is "no sea connections". You can edit the game rules section at the top of your save file if you prefer another setting.
Pyre 18 Nov, 2017 @ 3:21am
Thinking of using this mod in an ongoing game, what would the default sea zone setting be?
