Wow! I would love to see what experimenting with the skybox can do, this is a beauty in itself! perhaps you could even do night? i'd imagine it wouldn't be easy to see during night i mean afterall the trains don't by default have working headlights x3

I think you have a great point in the way that when the map suddenly ends it makes both the landscape and skybox look very weird. If it was fading out well then it would be great.

Looking forward to se the 2k one and test. I hope you find ways to compensate for what the game lacks. But it seems pretty difficult! I don't know shit how to do things like that. :P
Good luck!

@hlvmy: This is soon to be updated to another set of "Sunrise" textures that are the game standard of 2048x2048 or 2k. When those are done, the light direction and light color will also be changed.

The original game does not have "blue fog", it is the arithmetic color of very light grey, almost white: fog = { color = { 0.55, 0.95, 1.05 }}

The fog color in this mod is taken directly from the horizon color, like so: game.config.environment.fog.color = { 0.27, 0.41, 0.75 }
... a dark greyish blue that blends in with the skybox horizon. The light level in this mod is also very low as it is early morning, or "crack of dawn". Again, this will change with the new textures.

The Sunset mod uses a different fog color:
game.config.environment.fog.color = { 1.05, 0.65, 0.25 }
... a very light yellowish-orange.

The blue color you are seeing is the actual horizon color of the skybox texture. To see the actual fog color, on a mountainous map, look at the distant mountains, that is where the fog color comes in.

I wish I could do it like this: http://blog.wolfire.com/2009/07/blending-land-and-sky/
In Transport Fever, the "fog band" is built in and one only has to change it's color to match the skybox. You can also change the light color to match the color of sunlight passing through the atmosphere.

The problem in this game, is that the maps are on the small size (even the large and experimental sizes), where the terrain suddenly drops off instead of fading into the distant horizon. The maps are all procedurally generated, so it is difficult to match them to the skybox.

PS: the picture looks good but the blue fog thing is there just as much as in the vanilla. Idk, maybe I'm being unrealistic.

Hi. So is this skybox more heavy on the game than the original? I'd love to test it if it wasn't. My computer has a mid i5-series, gtx670 and 24gb ram so it is not good with this game. My number 1 problem with the vanilla skybox is the wierd blue coloured "fog"(?) that is on the horizon. It would be great if there was a background image like in many games that can make a better transition between the greens and the sky. Or orange on the US map...

No problem. There are a couple of more "experiments" underway at the moment, terrain and Visual Studio tweaks, ... I am/will be releasing the stuff in a modular format so that people can "mix & match" skyboxes, terrain, scenery models to get a "different look" to their games.

What I need to know from this "Experiment" is:
-is it too dark?
-make the sky more vibrant (increased color saturation and/or brightness)
-add/adjust ambient lighting?
-fix shadow quality?

... those sorts of details. As far as I know, one can add/activate the mod to their game and remove it afterward without problems.

Lol I noticed you chnaged it from "that's too bad" to "that's unfortunate"

Thats fine I can wait. nice mod though
BuffHamster  [author] 10 Feb, 2017 @ 11:50am
@ExoticParallel: That is unfortunate, as even the game uses 2048x2048 HDR files for the skybox.

Please be aware that this is an Experimental mod. Once the procedural techniques used to create various Skyboxes is ironed out, a standard version at 2k HDR sizes (vanilla game standard) will be released.
