Report a translation problem
I trapped myself twice in room 2 in the advanced chamber. First time I walked in, tried to place a portal, and both my portals were removed and the door closed on me. Second time I placed a portal from outside the room, grabbed the cube, and used the tractor to enter the button room. Again, my portals were removed, the cube fizzled, and I was trapped. I finally got it to work by entering the room through a portal placed on the floor next to the laser receiver - definitely not intuitive. --- Instead of fiddling with "did you trap yourself" logic, why not make the door open and remain open when you activate the laser receiver?
1.The turrets in the begging are meant to be difficult.
2.The portal orienter is buggy in this map and I would recommend to shoot the portal a few times (mostly in the center) to get it going.
3.The cube fizzled probably because you got stuck in the room that it's meant to go.
4.If you send me some gameplay I'll take a look at it and fix stuff where is needed.
1) Watch the volume for music sounds that play everywhere. 8 is usually a good number to have the volume at for these types of sounds rather than 10.
2) Try using custom soundscapes (using an env_soundscape_triggerable and a trigger_soundscape) to add a sonic ambiance to your map. I used Testchamber_med_01 for most of your map.
First part: the turrets are very difficult to pass. I didn't actually die at all, but I came very close!!
Second part: the loud music drowns out the AI voice, making it fairly difficult to understand. Thus it took me a while to know what to do.
Advanced part 1: I managed to find a glitch solution using only repulsion and conversion gels.
Advanced part 2: Very cool to see the portal orientator. However what you did to untrap the player in the event that the player gets trapped didn't really help.
Advanced part 3: Can get a tad annoying to redirect the energy ball, but otherwise a neat, easy test.
Advanced part 4: Indeed it does take ninja skills to solve, although I actually liked that part the best, as the "ninja" part of it really epitomizes Portal. However if the player manages to get stranded on the angled panel, the path back to the faith plate is not a pretty one.
Overall, I loved it, and I hated it. Thus I can't give this test a rating.
2. The of lasers is quite fun.
3. The diversity only becomes cool when resolved.
4. The transition was beautiful.
5. I liked the central room, indicating that there are 4 puzzles to exit.
6. The crushers is cool, but requires agility ninja.
7. The combine ball is fun.
8. Do not understand the rotating arrow. What's the use?
9. We also could not solve the puzzle of the gels.
My vote is neutral because: I found several little puzzles intuitive and boring. But a map is well designed, made for highly skilled players. What is not my case. I gave up.
Congratulations on the fine work of Hammer.
I recorded my gameplays. [dl.dropbox.com]
Turrets highly explosive. Handle with care
ninja's won't have a problem.
but mere mortals will die a few times here.
(as I did)
after falling from tractor beam,
I heard the music & talking.
but could not understand enough of what was said, to be helpfull.
including what is said, back in the 1st chamber.
so I repeatedly jumped into goo, to try to hear what was being said.
(with the turret voice distortion & the music, I still could not make out what was being said ?)
eventualy gave up.
so if what is said has any bearing on the next step / solution, it can't help me.
so for the above reasons, I will not thumbs up.
but as I have not played to the end, it would not be fair of me to judge this map.
so I will not give thumbs down either.
Very frustrating after 1/2 hour I was playing this level.
One, the turrets at the beginning are totally possible. It just requires thinking. And reflexes.
Second, glitches. The pneumatic diversity vent doesn't work for some reason. I tried restarting the chamber (admittedly, I used notarget to get past the turrets the second time, the jump is tricky) but no matter what I did, it wouldn't pull me through. I managed to get past it by noclipping to the other end, but I may not have ended up in the correct place (I went to the room shown above, with the four rooms and the button in the center).
Also, as several people have noted, it is possible to fall into the space under the slanted platform in the room with the gels and get stuck, which I'm sure wasn't intended.
Other than that, great level, though I couldn't get past the spike plates. That room is completely rediculous (and noisy)... or maybe I just suck at Portal.
Overall the puzzles were simple just implied difficulty, only two parts were challenging but in what feels an unfair way.
