Bad news: changing weapon's skin to coil guns changes the stats despite having "carry over" option in xskin.
Good news: the damage is the same with tier 3 weaponry, so at least then i will be able to change them without feeling like i'm cheating.

Hi Spacemann Whiff, one problem, i get a information that one mod is apperantly no longer activated. Its Name is "fbmissionsvanilla" and i can't find the mod anywhere in the workshop or signs of it.(like that an other mod would need that one to function) I'm writting my issue down here cause for your mod i need the LW2 Coilguns for Vanilla, so unleast the name is similar. and as soon i got that information, that "fbmissionsvanilla" isn't activated, i finished my last current mission with no problems and want to return to my base and then the game is collapsing with the warning:
XCOM 2 has found a problem and couldn't run any further.
so i'm stucked with that shit and can't play no longer, so if you should got any thoughts on that, it would be very appreciated if you could let me know, because obviously i didn't want to uninstall the hole game and start from "fucking" scratch :(

This would likely be an issue with the tier disabler. I will fix this in the next few days.

I've realized something. I'm running this mod with the coilguns mod, however when I use the Coilguns as a skin, despite having the options in the XSkin mod to copy the stats of the base weapon to the skin, the Coilguns' stats carry over and overrwrite the base weapon's stats. Would this be an issue with the tier disabler, or the XSkin mod?

Wow I am an idiot I didn't have the Xskin mods activated AND the weapon skin option doesn't show up when trying to apply it to a "cosmetic" skin like Retroactive Upgrades. It's working now, and I'm really enjoying using the coilgun skins in vanilla. Nice work

I will try to fix that as soon as I can. For the moment, I'd recommend not using the skins.

@Ruswarr I can confirm that I have that same issue. Like you, I also have the LW2 Laser and Laser Disabler mods, so that seems to be what's causing it.

Well, there's still a possibility that this happens only on my side unless someone else also reports the same issue. There shouldn't really be anything else interfering with weapons mods in my modlist but who knows. And with my xcom2 startup times checking any possible suspects will take who knows how long.

Also a little bug report, I guess? I know that coilgun stuff is not compatible with LW lasers right now and things probably should get wonky buy maybe that info can be useful?

This was tested on tier1 weapons and xskin as I lack better saves right now. I used both LW laser pack and vanilla coilgun mods AND both disablers to use both lasers and coilguns purely as skins.
Laser skins seem to be working as usual, properly switching to conventional weapons' damage. Coilgun "skins", however, end up using plasma tier damage (i.e. vanilla plasma - don't really know how LW2 works in that regard) when I switch the skin - it both shows in armory and applies in missions.

@FERnKmaster - that should actually be called "Weapon upgrade" menu, when you check a soldier via Armory. At least in my pretty close to vanilla game it is called that. There you should see the green arrow/menu for switching skins, but mind it might take a second or two for it to appear.

Hmm maybe it's a mod conflict or something but I'm not seeing an "Upgrade Equipment" menu anywhere. I do have a few mods that muck around with the armory so maybe that's why? Appreciate the help anyway. I can just use your other mod to get my coilgun fix

@FERnKmaster - select a character in the armory. Click on the "Upgrade Equipment" menu. Then click on the weapon you want to reskin.

Still having trouble, I've looked in Engineering, the Armory and even the Research Lab, but I haven't found the "Upgrade Equipment" menu. Where exactly is this option located?

FernKmaster, If you have the Xskins mod you can switch the skin to the coil gun, it worked for me.
If you have it installed, go to upgrade equipment, then select the weopon in this case the plasma beam, at the bottom left of the screen youll see a drop down tab with a green arrow, select it and it should drop list all the weopen skins you have installed.

@FERnKmaster It should be in Upgrade Equipment -> Plasma Rifle in the menu there. I have to fix the localization for the coilguns in the main mod, but that may be a while

So I unlocked Plasma Rifles and I still don't have the skins for the weapons, am I doing something wrong? Do I have to go somewhere specific to apply the skins to the weapons?

You can use the skins for any tier, and they use the stats of the weapons of that tier.

Spacemann Whiff thank you for the time to make these mods that some dickheads in the comment section can't appreciate time restraints. One question if i could, does this mod intergrate the xskins system where you can just apply the coil gun skin to a tier 3 weapon?

So... you're saying you're saying you had the time to make a mod, but you didn't take the very short time it would've taken to test it yourself?
