Mining never worked for me so THANK YOU! Still works.

添加一个木炭坑,可用木柴制作木炭。 你的铁匠会用木炭代替煤炭来制造钢铁工具。矿物煤可以用来加热房子。 该项目从“North” mod 分离以便用于其他场合。

Mod still works! It must be the only mod that modifies the Blacksmith FROM THE START OF THE WORLD.

It's not compatible with Tools+ because both mods modify the Blacksmith file. If Tools+ is higher in mod-load-order, then Charburner just makes charcoal for homes or trade. If Charburner is higher then Tools+ is mostly disabled except for locking the Blacksmith worker in a loop of trying to grab charcoal but being unable to put it inside the Blacksmith to make vanilla Steel Tools.

If you really want wooden, stone, or carbon-steel tools from Tools+, then Charburner can be lower in the load order and provide an additional home fuel and trading material.

If you're happy enough with vanilla Steel Tools, then Charburner by itself works very nicely to avoid coal mines or coal trading.

Charburner is compatible with No Coal in Homes mod, in the sense that homes will not grab charcoal either. Like coal, small bits of it still get grabbed for storage barns and markets even though they don't get used by homes. But it's not this mod's job to avoid that.

Charburner is compatible with Specialized Stockpiles: charcoal is only sent to Coal Stockpiles.

@Magik The icon is in the same menu as the Blacksmith, looks like an igloo.
eatonpye 20 Feb, 2021 @ 6:14pm
I'm trying to use this mod, and it seems to produce charcoal alright, but I can get the blacksmith to use it. I'm using Megamod, with the charburner above it in the stack. Is there a trick to this? Or a specific blacksmith building that uses it? I know it works fine in North 7, but I haven't found a smithy in Megamod that will use it.

And... I see that this thread is pretty inactive... Oh well, I hope somebody can point me in the right direction.
victorcviterbo 11 Oct, 2020 @ 12:36pm
I'm also having the same problem. the barrels of charcoal are there but nobody picksit up to take it to the balcksmith. Anybody knows how to solve that?
Drath 4 Jul, 2020 @ 7:23pm
i am not sure i am using right i can build it no problem send someone to work they take my firewood use it i see on the ground what looks like four barrels i assume its the charcoal.

no one picks it up so my smith cant use it and once the four are done my burnner goes to idle or helps labor as needed but no one uses the charcoal also making me unable to make steel tools.

any ideas what im doing wrong?

I can't find the icon. Where can I find it?

love itttt

That's right. The mod changes storage flags of other smithies but cannot do it with objects that are already built. It is an old mod here and there is probably a better way to make the charcoal burner available for vanilla based games. I can look into it.
chabero 14 Jul, 2019 @ 7:35am
Mod need a Save-newstart to work, added in a runing save nor working, the Worker will bring the carecoal to the smithy, but cant entload the stuff and brings the coal back to storage nd start a loop.. bring coal.. bring it back

Modloadorder to top will not solved the Problem with a older Savegame

Tom Sawyer  [author] 26 Oct, 2018 @ 6:27am
You can still make some charcoal to trade it away for a good price. People in other regions know how to use this stuff.^^
Angelhearth 25 Oct, 2018 @ 4:10pm
Ok, thanks. I really like the idea behind the charcoal hut, but not willing to give up RK's mod. :steammocking:
Tom Sawyer  [author] 25 Oct, 2018 @ 2:24pm
Looking at Reds mod, there is actually no need of making charcoal. His blacksmith shops don't use it. Placing the charcoal mod on top would remove all new recipes from the vanilla smithy but technically it works in this order. I had no crashes in this test.
Tom Sawyer  [author] 25 Oct, 2018 @ 1:58pm
Thank you, I have tested the charcoaler with this mod and it works well in both orders. They are red only because of changing the firewood template but without a problem. The cause of your crash must be a conflict with another mod. One that also includes charcoal. Probably a bigger mod compilation.
Tom Sawyer  [author] 25 Oct, 2018 @ 1:35pm
Can you give me a link to this mod? I know the more wood per tree and such but they don't conflict.
Angelhearth 25 Oct, 2018 @ 12:02pm
Any suggestions for mods to use with it? I use More raw materials.
Tom Sawyer  [author] 25 Oct, 2018 @ 10:22am
Hi, with more wood, iron etc it should not interact. But with mods that include charcoal as well and flag it as something else than 'CoalFuel' or change what smithies can store. It's difficult to make it working in different mod environments.
Angelhearth 22 Oct, 2018 @ 5:51pm
It seems to be a problem if you use any booster type of mod (more iron, wood what not). If you don't place this mod above it, charcoal won't be used. If you place it above it, the game crashes. Any ideas?
Th3WolF 20 Jul, 2018 @ 9:52am
Okay Thanks I will see what I can do. Good idea for the mod
Tom Sawyer  [author] 19 Jul, 2018 @ 12:28am
If people don't collect it from the charcoal pit, they can't find a storage location. Normally it goes into barns. Depending on other mods it can also be stored on piles and maybe not in every new barn.
Th3WolF 17 Jul, 2018 @ 6:07pm
The people are not collecting the coal. They produce it but doesn't collect it. How do I fix that???
Tom Sawyer  [author] 15 Jul, 2018 @ 3:37am
What exactly is not working?
WAND3R3R_R33C3 19 Dec, 2017 @ 1:48pm
It's a great mod. However, this makes mining coal useless, because it prevents blacksmiths from using coal. It would be nice to have the option of using coal to make tools too.

Also, this already conflicts with mods that change the blacksmith's "recipies", so you might as well just make a new Steel Tool recipe.
Tom Sawyer  [author] 18 Oct, 2017 @ 3:12am
:) Lg!
Moon☾at 22 Sep, 2017 @ 11:52am
@Wizl man nice for giving some backgroundhistory about that :D
Wize 13 Sep, 2017 @ 1:23pm
Charcoal makes for much cleaner/stronger steel in blacksmithing. It also burns hotter and faster than coal, with little or no impurities at all added to the metal; just carbon. Coal was just easier to mine compared to the three day process of producing charcoal. Depletion of hardwood forests became a problem in most of Europe and North America with the exception of Scandinavia; due to poor forestry practices. Charcoal for heating homes would be far more expensive than coal or cured wood.
Vas 14 Aug, 2017 @ 7:51am
I actually think coal should be used for making tools, while charcoal could be for improved home heating so instead of using firewood, they'd use charcoal.
ChickenBoss510 12 Aug, 2017 @ 3:45pm
Yeah i still want coal to be used
Artosk 7 Aug, 2017 @ 3:54pm
Could you make it so that i can still use my actual coal to make tools as well as charcoal?
Tom Sawyer  [author] 3 Aug, 2017 @ 11:04am
It's a storage conflict with any other mod. I solved some of them by overwrites but not possible to make it work in all cases. To use the light version is a good choice. :)
Lag357 3 Aug, 2017 @ 8:51am
Hey :) i have a problem: the charcoal produced in the charburner doesn't get collected by labourers or stacked anywhere, so it just stays there and nobody touches it, making the building useless and the workers always idling... please fix it, it is a very usefull mod! By the moment i will use the light version
monsterhart 31 Jul, 2017 @ 7:12pm
Advanced Blacksmith by Zen Industries is another alternative, it simply adds the option to make coal from logs at the blacksmith.
monsterhart 30 Jul, 2017 @ 1:57pm
Okay, thank you for your replies and consideration.
Tom Sawyer  [author] 30 Jul, 2017 @ 12:05pm
For now you can load the light version on banishedventures.com/charburner . Just copy the file to your windata folder in steam/steamapps/common/banished.
monsterhart 30 Jul, 2017 @ 11:50am
Could you make that version available on Steam?
Tom Sawyer  [author] 29 Jul, 2017 @ 3:40am
Thanks for your suggestions. There are many ways to make it and it will never be perfect for all players. I tend to just replace this mod by its light version where the charcoal burner just makes vanilla coal from wood. It removes all conflicts and fits nicely in the vanilla gameplay. Many players already prefer this simple solution.

I want to stay with firewood as raw material because it needs small pieces of wood. To use whole logs would not be realistic. A building process is actually not necessary because it's just stacking firewood by the charcoal burner. But some initial firewood can be included to avoid this instant placing. I had it in an older version and it was a bit confusing. I will look at it again.
monsterhart 28 Jul, 2017 @ 7:16pm
This mod should not replace the standard steel tools from log+iron+coal option but simply add an additional option that also makes steel tools. It's appropriate for charcoal to replace both coal and logs, perhaps requiring a larger quantity of charcoal to make up for not using the other resources, and maybe take longer than with the regular coal per tool. Also, why does the charburner use firewood instead of normal logs? Wouldn't it make more sense to use logs to make charcoal? Additionally, I feel like the charburner should require some resources and build quantities. Instant charburner isn't very realistic or balanced.

Legend ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ, you can't disable the mod in the game being played, it will always crash. To disable the mod you should go to the main menu, disable it, reload Banished and then start a new game.
Grimsterise 8 Jul, 2017 @ 10:04am
This mod does not work for me. Charcoal is not being picked up and stored. When I uninstall it it crashes the game.
Tom Sawyer  [author] 8 Jul, 2017 @ 2:10am
I already made such a simple version where charcoal burner are making coal instead of charcoal. You can load it from banishedventures.com/Charburner .

To "uninstall" a mod cancel your sub here on steam or just disable it in your mod list.
Dream 8 Jul, 2017 @ 12:53am
Is there any way to safely uninstall your mod? Every time I try it crashes my game and the mod itself makes it impossible to make steel tools as the blacksmith refuses to use your charcoal. Simply picking it up in storage, bringing it to the smithy, then putting it back into the storage barn.
Dream 7 Jul, 2017 @ 11:27pm
I have hundreds of charcoal in the storage barn, I disabled the "no coal in house" mod I was using, yet the blacksmith still won't use charcoal. What happens is the blacksmith takes the charcoal to the smithy building but as soon as he gets it there he takes it right back.

Is there any way you can just make this generate standard coal instead of charcoal? That'd work a lot better, I feel, also make sure to let the blacksmith use regular coal again.
Myona. 6 Jul, 2017 @ 2:08am
great idea and mod, but can you make a buildingprocess, so before i can use it, i must move material and build it.
♥♥♥ Crusader - Mr. Vag 5 Jul, 2017 @ 9:15am
my villagers wont move the charcoal eventhough its on top of the load order
