does this work with the IWBUMS beta?

@BluntMan NOPE sorry.

So by default all books should have minimum spawn rates. However, the loot tables are HUGE, so there are tons of different books. If you're having trouble knowing which books you have and need to look for, you can read the first page of everything you have. Pages read will be global so you can grab new books that dont have read pages.

On the positive side, at least books tend to spawn where other things dont, so its not like you're crowding important items out by spawning 3 books in a desk or 6 books on a shelf.

does anyone know if there is a way for us to turn down the book spawns on this mod? I made them very rare in sandbox settings and it seems like everyone still has a thousand books

Love the mod and am looking forward to the new ideas! I'm planning on making a comparable Cd/Cassette collection mod. I might be able to help out with UI graphics when you need it. :)
I'd be very interested in the 'per-page bonus' code as it would go a long way in applying functionality to CD's/Cassettes as well!

aye the skill books make more sense to use as a base; they take longer, for one. you can pick them up and put them down and pick them back up later... the reward, if it's a temprary one, could be granted upon every reading of some % of the book, so that you have to sit down and get some readin' done if you want to get anything out of it... but I'm suggesting that one gets something out of every sitting with a good book, not only on completing it.
...come to think of it, I've only finished a handful of the hundreds of good books I have. *smile* And I love them all.
simulatedbyalgorithm  [author] 14 Aug, 2019 @ 9:13pm
@NortheastBlackwood had the exact thought actually! I considered having a single line emote above the player. e.g. after finishing moby dick, it might emote "call me ishmael." That will be a ton of work and I don't know how to hack the system, but theres a bright future to PZ modding.

For this mod im going no rewards to induce the player to find and read more books. I'd like rewards to be a per-page thing, so if you read a spooky book you get stressed ;)

This is great. Thank you. And here's where I will toss in the idea I've had for so long but will never develop the skill necessary to implement it: Actual text that the Player (not the Character) can actually read, like those procedurally generated journals... rip the text from some public-property classics (I'm thinking old episodics, penny lit)?
Anyway, thank you for your work, and the one thought on what you already are doing: Might an already-read book still have some, though reduced, reward? I know I've read a lot of books twice with pleasure.

@Geronimo Haha! Good point. I'm not a Dev, as things go, and although I've figured out solutions for a few of the problems, they haven't been implemented yet. But its good to see that folks are interested! With the recent changes to the game, the need for bookmod and related collecting mods is even more stark. Hopefully I can find a collaborator to work on the UI ideas with.

cheers

in `module_Trilogies.txt` at line #2051 you got surplus rogue ,
removing it removes error ;)

@Freeasabird🕊 thanks for your coment. This is due to a way that the game codes books. You might notice that normal books get used up and vanish. Skill books don't. But, skill books confer no instant bonus, and regular books do.

The issue is that if the books gave a bonus, once you read the book the bonus would be instant forever- example. You finish moby dick which has a -50 bordom. You put it on the shelf. You can then pull it down and insta-receive a -50 bordem just by using the already read book again. Thats broken.

The design goal for the mod is that each new page reduces boredom (or increases it, if you happen to find Tax Law Compendium 1957-1976). That way you can fill a library with read books, but you only get the bonuses for reading a fresh book. I'm working on updating the mod so that the effect is by page rather than by on use. This requires coding and is a WIP.

Freeasabird🕊 21 May, 2018 @ 2:42pm
Why do you have to use them up? why can't you just read it and put it back onto the shelf to read again later? (with a large reduction in anti bordom of course)

A tab that shows all the books you've read and collected?
Fahl Demonwing 24 May, 2017 @ 8:39pm
I loved the concept of this mod, since I love collecting many items in this game. Thank you
