Oof, there's no way this is getting updated.

Update please

@Rainbeau Flambe
You know, I kinda skimmed through it and didn't notice that, but now that you mention it, I may be able to work with that. I also may know of a way to "cheat" in cold snaps and heat waves for custom durations, I'd just have to manually stop each season or so and change it. Unless you might know of a way to setup manual non-random events years in advance? With that I could even make a scenario for it! I appreciate you looking into it!
E-Claire 28 Nov, 2018 @ 12:57pm
@Neshimi: I don't know if you'll be able to find quite as extreme a seasonal temperature difference as you're asking for, but my "Realistic Planets" mod does allow you to adjust the axial tilt of the planet you're generating, so you can have much larger seasonal shifts than you see in vanilla, including at the mid-latitudes a fair number of tiles with "split" growing seasons, as they feature summers too hot *and* winters too cold to grow crops.
Neshimi 17 Nov, 2018 @ 3:26pm
I would like to add myslef to the list of people who want this back. I've been wanting to set a biome to like -130c to -90c in winter and 60c-100c in summer with normal spring and fall. and to anyone who does decide to bring this back, please see if this can be done.
Opio 26 Oct, 2018 @ 4:26am
Second that!
M00nStalker 22 Oct, 2018 @ 3:31pm
Would love to see this come back to life now that 1.0 is out. :)

@Logical Terror
How's it going? I can't wait for an updated version of this fantastic mod. :)
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 14 Feb, 2018 @ 9:04pm
@Logical Terror - given how well Steam works at letting me know about comments (ie: it doesn't... XD), please feel free to upload your own version. If you do, drop me a line here and I'll at least update the description to point to your copy.

Thanks.
Logical Terror 10 Feb, 2018 @ 1:02pm
I have made an update for this mod to bring it into b18, I've run into a bug that i'm trying to squash but otherwise it works, do you want me to send you the copy so you can upload it? Or should I upload an unofficial update?
ryangtanaka 16 Jan, 2018 @ 11:40am
Aww shucks -- well if anyone sees an alternative mod, let us know.

On my end all I need is the ability to change the temperature variations for day/night and seasons. It makes for some pretty interesting gameplay.
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 8 Jan, 2018 @ 7:28pm
Unfortunately, while I'd intended on updating over the past few weeks while I had some time off work, I ended up having other projects to take care of, and, since I'm not currently playing Rimworld, I can't really find the time to devote to updating right now.

The source code is freely available and licensed under the MIT license, so, if anybody wants to get things updated and produce a derivative mod, they are free to do so. Otherwise, I'm not sure when I'll get time and energy to update things myself.

Sorry. :(
No Name 1 Jan, 2018 @ 9:29pm
Are you going to update this mod?
kezza596 7 Dec, 2017 @ 11:21am
Any B18 update?
ryangtanaka 3 Dec, 2017 @ 4:03pm
Will this be updated for 18? I had a Let's Play of this going but it broke with the recent update.

You can do some pretty interesting campaigns with this mod.
Oddworld86 28 Nov, 2017 @ 10:59pm
Since 3 years, I never had snow falling... Anyone has the same thing?
SerWind 15 Nov, 2017 @ 10:05am
I am so dumb. I was testing it and not getting any results, decided to check where I was. Equator... Even at 400 seasonal shift (which seems to be the maximum) on the equator it won't gravitate anywhere, much. I'm going to put myself on one of the poles and try again.

Do you plan to update this for a18?

Edit: https://i.imgur.com/T6KrBNN.png , I appear to have gotten the result I want setting the various biomes at 400 and checking them out on the world map. Now I just have to see if it actually works in game (dunno why it wouldn't), and if the weather plays nice with it.
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 14 Nov, 2017 @ 11:29am
... I'm starting to realize Steam is absolutely *terrible* at informing me of new messages.

So, to answer your question - I don't actually remember anymore, it's been a while since my last RimWorld playthrough. I believe that it will push both temperatures out (ie: summers will be warmer and winters will be colder).

As for the bit about the poles, RimWorld calculates the actual temperature for a season based on the tile's distance from the equator. Tiles closer to the equator will experience less drastic seasonal shift, while those at or near the poles of the planet will experience the full effect. So, if you pick an area near the equator, you'll need to increase the seasonal shift more to get the intended effect. (of course, this also means that other areas on your world will also experience issues, so... you might end up freezing out a lot of the other pops on the world)

HTH.
SerWind 13 Nov, 2017 @ 10:16am
I guess the part that is confusing me is the whole poles thing. I know that's probably stupid but yeah. So I see this setting here https://i.imgur.com/LWkuR0m.png for seasonal shift, which I am assuming means that at the poles you'll get a 56 degree difference between summer and winter? If I change this value, which way does it go? Does the maximum for summer increase or the minimum for winter or do they both change?
SerWind 12 Nov, 2017 @ 4:18pm
Hah, no worries for the late reply. After reading a bit more about your mod I figured it was only for nights and you were just annoyed by the question.

Is seasonal shifts an option in the mod?
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 10 Nov, 2017 @ 7:26pm
@SerWind - sorry it took so long to see your comment - in theory, yes, it should (and I've used it in my own games for such), but I know that some people are having issues (potential mod conflicts I'm not aware of?) getting it to do the temperature offsets.

tl;dr: you should be able to set the seasonal shift for your biome by 100 (or maybe 200) and it should do what you want.
SerWind 1 Nov, 2017 @ 3:11pm
I was sort of hoping to make really cold winters and really hot summers. Out of curiosity, can this mod do that? I was thinking in the range of -100 to +100, that's all I've been looking for in a mod forever.
WindUpHero7 9 Oct, 2017 @ 1:24am
Disregard my comment, must've been something weird in the load order because it works now.
WindUpHero7 9 Oct, 2017 @ 1:12am
The offset setting appears to be doing nothing for me. Seasonal shift works fine, but putting temperature offset to positive or negative doesn't change the temp by a single degree
Hurricane Handy 10 Aug, 2017 @ 5:15am
Yep this mod is fricken awesome. It is now essential to my load order. you sir, mr. Taryn are a great man. Dancing girls and blow for everyone.
Silly Cat 7 Aug, 2017 @ 5:09am
yes celsius. i was playing in extreme desert and set the day/night difference to 80 °C.
at day the temperature was around 40-50 °C and at night something around 20-30 °C

its not that i want it to be -40 C° at night but i set the difference way higher because i observed that even the vanilla day/night difference settings where not reaching their set difference and increasing the difference value had no significant impact on the temperatures at night.
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 6 Aug, 2017 @ 6:52pm
Just to check: you are comparing the temperatures in Celsius, right? All the configurations are done in Celsius rather than Fahrenheit.

Otherwise, what do your settings look like versus what temperatures are you seeing?

Thanks.
Silly Cat 6 Aug, 2017 @ 10:30am
very cool mod! but i never have seen the night reaching the target temperature difference at all even with flattest setting :o
Hurricane Handy 4 Aug, 2017 @ 12:22am
Ahhh man, I thought this was just for desert maps so I never looked at it. This mod looks really awesome. Gonna load it up and see if it gets along with my load order =D
Willowisp 16 Jul, 2017 @ 12:35am
The fact this isn't 5 stars yet is a travesty! Please give it a thumbs up.
Willowisp 15 Jul, 2017 @ 11:43pm
Its nice to know your product is valued, as I think your should be; the added scrutiny can be...wearing. I don't mind fixing problems that i've created but fixing compatibilities can be daunting, especially when you arent currently playing said game but are still providing support.
windzzh 15 Jul, 2017 @ 9:27pm
would like to try this with permanent climate cycle :3
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 6 Jul, 2017 @ 5:55am
Thanks. I'm glad it's been so well received. :)

At the same time, I'm kinda glad it isn't more popular, because that tends to lead to me having to spend more time trying to fix random problems. :P
M00nStalker 6 Jul, 2017 @ 12:58am
@Taryn Winterblade

I just want to say thanks again, this mod is absolutely awesome and should be far more visible on the workshop. The extreme weather changes (in my case between summer and winter) adds a great challenge and replay value to the game. Good job!
Flesh Forge 29 Jun, 2017 @ 11:37pm
Oh duh that's in there too, nice!
Flesh Forge 29 Jun, 2017 @ 11:36pm
This is neat, glad to see this! Another thing along these lines that would be nice is a way to configure the temperature swing between seasons.
Willowisp 27 Jun, 2017 @ 4:29pm
I also may have run into a mod conflict to tell you about but i'll send you a message about that.
Willowisp 27 Jun, 2017 @ 4:27pm
I'm a biomedical engineer so my modding skills are more time and determination than programming skill. The mod you created here is exactly what I originally wanted to create, but instead settled on Hoarfrost/hypertherm due to my lack of programming ability. As much as I was ready to declare my mods to be made obsolete by this one, an argument was made to the contrary and I had to agree; they both do different things. If you would like to commandeer my temperature mods, You are absolutely welcome to them. They both lie unupdated because I can only write code as a result of reverse-engineering and my process is extremely time consuming. If you don't want to commandeer; I hope you might consider helping me with them. You don't take money so i'm unsure what I could offer you in return besides credit on the modpage.
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 27 Jun, 2017 @ 1:27pm
Alright, version 1.3 should let everybody tinker with the weather about as much as I'm able to without really really starting to change up how the game handles everything, and will let people duplicate the effects if Helpful Bot's Hoarfrost/Hyperthermia mods (on a per-biome basis).

As always, everything should default to vanilla settings, so that nobody gets caught off-guard with some new feature. :)
Terodan 27 Jun, 2017 @ 7:43am
@Taryn Winterblade exactly. personally I find it a lot more entertaining when I play "the rimworldish misadventures of friends I recreated in the game" when I can tell them they got hit by lightning 3 times in a row and now run around on 2 peg legs with lots of burn scars, and no fingers due to the cold, than "Yeah... there were the raiders again.... they shot ... again... and you got injured... again" Throwing a tantrum and as a result almost freezing to death just has so much more drama to it :)
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 27 Jun, 2017 @ 7:38am
@Helpful Bot - where do I start? Uh... as somebody who still has Hoarfrost/Hyperthermia on subscription (as well as Deadly Forest... *mutters something about 'stupid radiation-proof bears...'*), I'm honored. That said, this one doesn't yet modify the Cold Snap / Heat Wave events - but I could see doing that as a thing for 1.3.

I don't do Patreon - I work as a software engineer, so, getting paid to mod is... awkward for me. That said, I'd be happy to walk through how some of it works, if the the source code doesn't make enough sense - I try to generally comment my code well enough, but, sometimes I can see needing more in-depth explanations. :)
Taryn Winterblade  [author] 27 Jun, 2017 @ 7:33am
@Terodan - probably only a little bit crazy; I still need to work out an "issue" where the game won't allow anything but Clear weather to happen repeatedly before it gets really interesting (I mean... who wouldn't want to live where it's constantly having thunderstorms? Right?). I know what needs to change, I was just too lazy to put the config option into 1.2. :)
Terodan 26 Jun, 2017 @ 11:20pm
Finally I can use crazy weather settings
Willowisp 26 Jun, 2017 @ 6:01pm
I would also be willing to patreon you just for making this. I hope you don't mind if I alert my community to the existance of this mod and funnel my subscriptions to you.
Willowisp 26 Jun, 2017 @ 5:58pm
No way...NO WAY is this the holy grail?! You may have just completely rendered my two A16 mods obsolete (please do because I really am dragging on updating them to A17). I will donate to your patreon if you take like 5 mins to explain how you did this. I am the author of the Hoarfrost and Hyperthermia A16 mods.
M00nStalker 26 Jun, 2017 @ 10:49am
Thank you for the update! Played around a little and this can make things extremely cold hot interesting!
M00nStalker 23 Jun, 2017 @ 9:34pm
@Taryn Winterblade

That's great news. Looking forward to seeing more mods from you. This one quickly became a staple for me.
