Can you make it so that in your mod units that transformed received an additional property "Evolved" which would give a buff equal to the gold medal (+1 defence & resistance, +8 Hp). In this case, if the unit is developed 2 times on the branch of pumping, he gets 2 such buffs ("Evolved I" and "Evolved II").
But this property is not given to those who can transform, but only to those who have already transformed.

Wait, so I haven't done any math on this or anything, but it seems that in some cases this will result in units evolving and getting weaker. Or do evolving units somehow auto-adjust?

IIRC it is the title.rpk file for change to the units and the heroglobalsettings.rpk for change to the hero. It has been a while since i did this (about a year) but i think it is it.

By the way, i know i said i will change it to have the change to the heroes separated but i finally won't do it for several reasons (time, mood, etc.)

You need the change to keep balance but there are other mods making change in heroes skill points/level. Since my mods change that too, both mod are incompatible.
One of the mod in the workshop change the SP/Lvl from 5 to 10. 10 is too overpowered for this mod and I don't recommend it, that is why I included a change with 7 SP/Lvl instead in this mod.

Ah, ok. So heroes are kept in balance with regular units? If so, then why do you need to upload a version with no heroes change? Don't you need the changes to keep balance between heroes and regular units?

That is why i gave heroes 2 more skill points/level, but it make it incompatible with other mods doing the same thing. I will upload a version of this mod with no heroes change when i have the time to do it (I don't know exactly when).

Thanks; I already added and will soon start playing. My only concern is that the increase of both defense and resistance after gold level may make heroes under-powered in long games. Have you encountered this issue? Anyways, this is the type of mod I've been looking for - something that makes lower tier units more competitive.

Well it can be done easily, I in fact was wondering if I should have change the skill points. I just included it for conveniance in my own game. After trying with 10 points, I limited it to 7 because it was too much powerfull, but I can remove it.

Is there any chance of seeing a version of this mod that doesn't change the hero skill points/level? I run another mod that also affects that and it's causing compatibility issues

I don't plan to increase upkeep. The balance is not in the upkeep but in the survivability of T1 to T3 units. Without this mod I never bothered to develop these units because they are going to die anyway, but now if I take care of them, they can still fair well in battle. For me the upkeep is tied to the recrutment cost : if you recrut a better unit, of course it will have a higher upkeep, but it is because of the higher caracteristics and its abilities, not because of their leveling.
Between a gold medal T1 unit and a gold medal T3 unit, T3 will still be stronger, so the upkeep won't change.

Just a few thoughts
Can you increase maintenance/upkeep cost? If you don´t increase upkeep cost, it might be way too unbalanced. A T4 unit cost 8 times more upkeep than a T1. Granted, is harder to level up T1 units, but is also way easy to produce leveled units thanks to racial building, class skills and specialized buildings like shooting grounds.
Just think a Theocrat with Divine Justiciars or Warlod recuiting T1 on par with T4 for cheap. Also, some classes have a far easier time recruiting (producing) leveled units like the Necromancer and Theocrat.
Overall great idea, to treat each units as a mini hero and tell their tale within the larger story (map)
