Driver updated - Now Steam refuses to run
Updated my NVidia driver just now (latest update 384.94 today) Now my sound has packed up (everything!) and Steam won't run. Something about a bootstrap. Guess I'll have to try re-install it. Grrrrr...........

That's Steam fixed then. Now to sort out the sound problem. Don't ya just luv pooters!

Sorted. At least the update cured a nasty problem I was having with some progs. When left open on the desktop (3DsMax & Whatsapp were worst offenders) everything, esp text, would gradually go very fuzzy and out of focus. Moving the mouse over it would cause it to snap back into focus. Very annoying it was, especially since I was unable to fix it - until todays update.

I never did get NVIDIA Geforce Experience working and NVIDIA have not been in touch after severals months so I guess I'm on my own :-(

Glad you got your probs sorted.

I've given up with updates from anywhere. Whatever problem they were supposed to solve, they alway seem to create another. :steamfacepalm:

I'll second that. However, I love tinkering at fixing stuff (usually!!) - maybe I am a bit of an oddball?

I did a clean install - dont know if that made a difference. Also, everyones PC is different. Most will probably experience no problems, a few MIGHT have problems. Luckily mine turned out to be minor and easily fixed -- and the install did actually fix a previous problem.

I thought I would install the new NVIDIA driver after you mentioned it and now all my Windows 10 buttons in the start menu are flashing on and off. I think catlingard is right. I wish I hadn't bothered.

Hmm... I've had problems with that start menu before - In my case it was happening after install corel photo paint. This is what eventually fixed it. Don't know if it will help you or not but cant hurt to have a look.

Open Registry Editor regedit.exe
Right Click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Click on "Permissions"
You must have a "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" in "Group or User Names". If not present then it is the ROOT OF PROBLEM
Click on "Add".
Click on "Advanced".
Click on "Find Now".
You will see in the "Search Results" -> "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES".
Double click on it and in "Select Users or Groups" You will see it in "Enter the Object name to select".
Click "Ok".
Now you will see "ALL APPLICATION PAcKAGES" in "Group or User Names:" list. Click on it.
click on "Allow" -> "Read". and Click Ok
Close Registry Editor. No need to restart.
Click on your apps All of them should be working.

Just a thought - are you running any AV, Malware, etc software and are they set appropriately for the nvidia drivers/geforce experience app? A recent update to Bitdefender AV (no changes from me) cause Outlook to stop working - no warning - took ages to fix.
Glenn 25 Jul, 2017 @ 7:09pm
I am actually running 5 separate AV's -- SuperAntiSpyware / SpyBot / MalwareBytes / Avast PLUS windows Defender! Guess you could say that I am a bit paranoid! I have made no changes to either of them as far as windows or Nvidia are concerned, and so far they haven't caused me any problems! Been using them all for a number of years now.

Thanks Glenn, I will have a look and see if that solves it. If not then might just go back to the previous version for now.

The any virus software I run is the one Windows 10 comes with. It seems to do what I want so I stopped paying for Norton.
Glenn 26 Jul, 2017 @ 7:08am
All those that I mentioned above are free versions (although I did once pay for Avast). Incidently, I have over the years heard bad things about Norton, although never tried it myself.

You were right about Norton it was year's ago that it had a bad rep. It's one of the best now, but like Mutley says windows defender in Win 10 ticks most bases and there is a major upgrade coming with the fall update.

Have any of you guys got Windows Creator yet,if not be aware that it can mess up your settings, took me several hours to work the problem, but as some on here use windows defender like i do the new update for that is really great.
